Thirty years ago I had the privilege to take the Pentagon tour of the masterpiece that Somervell believed in, Bergstrom drew, Groves pushed and McShain built.
When finished it was one of, if not the, most user friendly, efficient, pleasant buildings in the world.
All that is gone, and given the law of unintended consequences, probably not for the better.
The building is now hermetically sealed, and vulnerable to one of, if not the, most deadly poisons known so far, Polonium 210.
As a gas, the amount that could be brought in a C7 bulb, the size of a night light, would render the most of the building unusable for a substantial period of time, and the immediate area for about two years.
If a person could open the windows, they could go back to work within a week.
Progress on Somervell, Bergstrom, Groves and McShain? Chance of my taking another tour? No on both.
