Never had any problems but I will say the bills are high for this place. I use low wattage bulbs for my lamp. I rarely use my AC or Heating System. Don t really ever use he stove or microwave. And yet, my electric bills are so high.
I have lived a lot of different places in my lifetime... Kansas City, MO... Dearborn, MI... Little Rock, AR... Biloxi, MS...
Whiteman AFB/Knob Noster, MO... Chippewa Falls, WI... Baltimore, MD... Jim Falls, WI... Plano, TX... Montgomery, AL... Decatur, AL... Hartselle, AL.
Our power goes out here in Decatur about 10 times as often as anywhere else I've lived!!
DU always works hard for our community.. we never doubt that lights are coming back on. Thank you so very much for your commitment
DU provides great service at reasonable rates and when the power goes off due to a limb or squirrel ... it's usually back on in an hour
As for the negative reviews
1. Pay your bill on time and they won't cut it off.
2. You can set up your bill for autopay
3.Bills go up when it's really hot or cold as you use more energy
4. You can set up pay average monthly bill to reduce high bills
5. There is a credit card fee because this is a convince fee for you to use instead of paying with cash or check like everyone else. The credit card companies charge fees and DU shouldn't have to eat those fees as a government organization. Same thing you're charged a fee if you use credit card to pay your car tags .
Tried to report a power outage but the automated system won't accept input. Fix this issue.
Worst service ever! Still had to pay a deposit for service that is already on but my apartment complex changed to where we have to pay for our own electricity now, I've lived here for 4 years. Then was informed by DU that the deposit has to be paid up front and that I also had an outstanding bill with them.....from 23 years ago that I have to pay first before they can put it in my name. So I have to pay $250 for electricity that's already on in this unit. Total BS!
The receptionist may be the nicest person I have ever met.
Transferring service to another apartment, getting charged another deposit. "Because it's two different aacounts" They still owe me my first deposit. They will keep that for my final bill.. which is pretty much gone.. Cause the bills have gone up over 100% and I'm barely home. It's true when they say Alabama is 100 years behind.
Update: They made sure they didn't give me my deposit back. When the old account became past due it magically got added on my new account. Began getting shut off notices for my new place. How if it's two separate accounts?
Prices continue to rise with no explanation. They change the website and now our existing account numbers do do not work and they never sent out a notice about the change in our account numbers. On top of all that the charge for paying online (the fastest and cheapest method for a business) has gone up. You charge a random dollor to my account because I wont drive there and pay cash and then another 3.95 for a "convenience fee". This company is a racket that is extorting the people of Decatur because they have a monopoly on the area. We are essentially there indentured servants.
