We were looking forward to a nice dinner in one of Ghent s ranked restaurants. But service and staff attitude were appalling. While ordering our dishes, our waiter disappeared in the middle of the order for more than five minutes without explanation. The butternut squash soup and the carpaccio were quite good. The wine too. The duck confit was far from tender, and the sea bass lacked the green beans listed on the menu. After picking up our plates, the waiter did not ask why they were still half full. We then had to wait over 20 min before catching anyone s attention to order deserts. Ten additional minutes later, they were still not served. We requested the bill and expressed our discontent to the manager, who failed to even apologise for the delays. Sadly not the kind of evening we were hoping.
We were here for lunch.
Dishes are nicely served and the portions are large. We have eaten mussels and grilled salmon. It is a nice restaurant with a terrace on the water, delicious dishes, but the service could be better.
Delicious eaten, the king crab was sublime, my husband took catfish, the wine was delicious, we would love to come back!
Friendly service, what more could a person want.

The service is just as top as before. The renewed menu is sublime.
my restaurant when I visit Ghent.
the place is nice, at the water's edge and the map is not lacking in interest.
the staff will give you a nice welcome.
We have been eating in this case for 20 years. The 8 blisses were already top, except for a few minor flaws. Now that Nelson has taken over the business, a few extra elements have been added: partly new interior, new signs, adjustment map. The tasty food, the large portions and the friendly staff will make this renovated business a winner. Established value in Ghent.
Good luck !
Everything was nice, but I didn't like the place. Staff was polite, location is great, dishes were beautiful, various, but none of them was delicious. Buffet is a good idea, helps to economize, as the prices are high. And, of course, opening hours are quite unusual for foreigners.
Nice dining and friendly service. Good price / quality ratio.
Super 3-course lunch for only 19.00 . Really recommended!
Good to go with a group
but a bit expensive relatively noisy
Very nice case and friendly service. Good food for a normal price.
Rude waiter, I was scolded for west. Early non-alcoholic aperitif, that was no problem. It did contain alcohol ... which made me sick and had to recover in the toilet for half an hour ... no sorry! Never again.
Good food, but a bit too chic for my taste. Food is very tasty
Recently been with a group of 20 people of which 2 people are very often there. Everything was tasty except the dessert. That was a little too much cake compared to the taste. Furthermore, good service and the possibility to 'pass' along the kitchen next to the lounge bar that is just next to it.
Very nice food, large portions. The lunch menu including some wine is great.
Food melts on your tongue, was really delicious. butter-soft stew and my girlfriend had venison steak which was also super tasty.
and that for little.
really a must for when you are in Ghent
A nice restaurant with a good atmosphere and friendly service with good food.
Nice beef rib menu, good service, pleasant atmosphere
Very good restart, congratulations to Nelson and his team. Delicious meal with perfect service
Geert Br.
Original menus at a good price / quality and fantastic location! Be sure to check if there is no room on the terrace, on the water of Ghent!
Very friendly staff
They are all toppers 1 by 1
The kitchen is also sublime
The food was delicious and I certainly did not leave the table hungry
I'll definitely return!
Grtjs from west flanders
(review based on a visit with a group of over 100 people!)
First of all: this place is bigger then it looks on the outside and it has a beautifull terrace that 'hovers' the river behind it.
As our group (of over 100 people!) was seated the service weant quite fast and looked to run very smooth.
Overall; good tasting food although the amount of food could have been a bit higher.
Friendly service, but eel in green was not very tasty.
sucked from the begin
on the website one adress ,on google another....
Oudburg 4, 900 GHent = Zuivelbrugstraat 6, 9000 Ghent
Also if u are at the door there is no program...I hate it already!
Great restaurant. Fast service. 3 course menu at a good price. French kitchen. Beautiful view of the water
Very friendly service, good food, nice restaurant in the nice Patershol. In short, one of the recommendations there.
Good food in beautiful, peaceful surroundings. Smooth, attentive and friendly service. Price-quality is fine. Recommended!
Can sometimes be quite busy but always well served and tasty / lots
Everything was perfectly delicious and staff was very friendly!
Good reception. Very tasty food. And price quality thick ok
Good food, not too expensive, nice ambiance, few hard working staff who keep a close eye on everything.
Very friendly staff, good food. Maybe do something about the odor nuisance in the toilet, but certainly no reason not to come back. Nice place with a view of the water.
Ghent waterzooi was great! Likewise, the cheesecake! Only 1 shrimp croquette, while the menu said "shrimp croquettes", nevertheless it was very tasty. Nice location in the heart of Ghent, warm and hearty staff, recommended!
Just good, nothing more. Price-quality in order. Must learn to open on time! Reserved at 6 o'clock and staff were still nice to chat with a closed door.
Always fantastic. Pleasant restaurant and more than good meals. Friendly service.
De Acht Zaligheden is the only restaurant in Oudburg that serves authentic Belgian and French dishes. It is cozy here, the service is smooth and the dishes are tasty. If you choose the weekly menu, you will enjoy a price-quality ratio that you will find elsewhere in Ghent.
Food was very tasty, but the staff was not that friendly.
Blissfully price conscious enjoyed delicious menu. Now awaiting the opening of the Troll cellar at St. Jacobs in Ghent
Always a top experience. Top service and super tasty. Cozy outside terrace
In short, a huge RECOMMENDATION !!!
Although the name seems inviting, and the space when entering appears to be much larger than you originally suspected, ... we have had our first negative experience here. We opted for the fish variant on the 8-beat menu. Barely started with the aperitif they were already ready with the starter (shrimp croquette). A lot of croquette and some (pieces of) shrimps. Again quite quickly followed by the eel in green (letdown: spinach from a pack and eel boiled in water). Dessert was not bad; but what do you want: sugars make a person happy (but it was too sweet, not finely finished ...). The fast train of serving, stopped as soon as the coffee was drunk ... And then there was no one asking if an extra was needed ... At checkout it even turned out that the table was already "closed" ... If we were already wanted to leave without paying, no one had noticed. We are left with mixed feelings: there will of course be very satisfied people who will gladly return here. We do not belong to that today. For a moment we even considered not to award a star, but then I could not write this down. Apart from all the rated or unrated restaurant / brasserie / ... visits that we already had in Ghent, this is indeed the least good experience in a long time ... There is oi potential present but we have that on our visit hardly experienced.
Also suitable for a group.
Nice terrace.
Very good food. However, they "lost" our reservation, and it was inexplicably difficult for the staff to find a way to split the bill (for 6 people) two ways, a problem no other restaurant I have ever visit had. That would not be so bad except the staff was stunningly rude when the request was made. I suggest choosing one of many other very good options in Ghent.
30, - for a 3-course menu including a glass of sparkling wine as an aperitif - a good price, unfortunately no revelation. Seating in the entrance area not recommended.
The restaurant had, among other things, waterzooi on the menu. I don't know whether it tastes like the Ghent grandmothers make it, but the well-cooked chicken with carrots, baby potatoes, chives in a creamy sauce was excellent. The spicy scampi, as before, were also convincing, although I wondered what that tub of butter did with the bake-off bread.
The bill for twice for and twice head was appropriate. In short, when in Ghent do as the Gentenaar and be a blissful spirit.
Very good food, the risotto was excellent and pleasant service
