Although I have reviewed it online, I was still very impressed by the atmosphere. This museum is the pillar of a very important tour. I recommend you to see the mesdag panorama museum first and then you should go to the beach.

It is the old home of the painter. In it we see his impressive collection of paintings, mostly Dutch and French ftom the 19th century. We also learn about his life and times. It is not a big museum. So just set aside one and a half to two hours of your time for this. It really is a must see!

During our visit to the Peace Palace, of which the tour lasted only a short time, there was still time left to view the adjacent Mesdag museum, the Mesdag collection. It is only a small museum, but with many paintings by the Mesdags and painters of the Hague School. Right next to their house, the Mesdag artists Hendrik Willem and Sientje Mesdag built a museum in 1887. Their own paintings hung comfortably between the collection of Dutch and French art. Museum Mesdag was open by appointment on Sunday morning. Mesdag himself showed around. He always started at home, first showing his own studio there, and Sientje's as well. Eventually fame for the Mesdag. "A Great Man, and a Great Deed", the newspaper headlined in 1903. Mesdag handed the museum over to the Dutch State, but was still director. That way the collection stayed together. This did not apply to the art collection in the house: it was auctioned after his death. The famous painting Panorama of Mesdag hangs a bit further elsewhere, see the reviews there.

Rude people working in the luggage/coatroom/locker section. Made me leave my canvas handbag behind which was not bulky. I wanted to bring along my iPad and was forced to buy a smaller handbag for 79 from the gift shop to carry it in. Displeased with the way they acted. Someone in our group was allowed to carry in a large leather satchel that was larger than my handbag which they had slung over their shoulder and another brought in a large painting. They were only being difficult with me. As a result this is my score and I won t be back nor recommend.

Everything is a little dark but it is exactly the style. Museum in the house of the Dutch painter of the 19th century. A bit dark but that's exactly the style.

Beautiful exhibition. What an artist, that Mancini. You will get a good idea of his international standing and the different opinions about his works. His special working method (with wires and with small boxes) is also nicely highlighted. And that his model had to sit dead still while he ran back and forth between model and painting!
Beautiful design. Easily readable texts. Through a space built up with photo walls, you imagine yourself in the street in Rome where his studio was. It continues to a more intimate place where a number of works with glass pieces and other material can be admired.
At the end is an interesting video in which the curator in Italy speaks to a great-nephew who has also loaned work.
Compliments! The Mesdag collection has turned out great in my opinion. Thanks!

Where the Barbizon and The Hague schools meet. Excellent collection of late 19th, early 20th centuries (mostly) French and Dutch painters. Mesdag himself and his wife were accomplished painters (also wealthy collectors and benefactors).
The captions displayed next to the paintings are in Dutch and English. Don't miss the gardens, nice views of the Peace Palace.

The Mesdag Collection is located just outside the center and is close to the beautiful Peace Palace and Panorama Mesdag. You will get an excellent impression of Mesdag's work and what life was like in Mesdag's time. Tram and bus stops are within walking distance of the Mesdag Collection. If you come by car, it is useful to determine in advance where you want to park. You can also rent rooms and it is also a wedding location. The museum card is valid there. You also have access to the beautiful garden outside with a view of the Peace Palace.

Beautiful collection in a beautiful house. The exhibition with contemporary art is nicely integrated. This has been successful. It makes the whole thing more exciting. I really enjoyed it.

The Mesdag Museum is a real treasury. Beautifully located on the Laan van Meerdervoort. With a beautiful garden at the back with a view of the Peace Palace. Mesdag himself painted the most beautiful seascapes and, during his life with his wife, collected a large collection of paintings and other art objects. It is very special that the collection has been preserved at this location. When in the area definitely visit here.

This museum was the Home of Mesdag, the famous painter and art collector who creacted the Mesdag Panorama painting.

The building and the garden is next to the Peace palace and is well maintained.

The collection itself has some excellent artpieces that even Van Gogh praised.

A great hidden treasure of a museum.
