They're a police department. They do what they do well and are friendly. I like their citizen class where they teach about citizen rights and how their department works. I myself have never been treated negatively from Davis PD (the same cannot be said about Yolo Sheriff, CHP, or the dreaded UCD police). I think when people realize that we have to take care of things ourselves and cannot expect the police to do everything for us, they will see that our city police do a fine job.

The Davis Police department comes by my house twice weekly to review the state of my yard (whether it is up to community standards), sends 3 squad cars out because of complaints that I was doing yard work nude (I was wearing a bathing suit) but when we have bikes stolen or get attacked (someone launched a glass Bacardi bottle at us while we were in the driveway, striking and badly denting our garage door), nothing. So apparently police and city priorities revolve around appearances, not citizen safety.

They are always harassing innocent civilians Lyft and Uber drivers. They have no compunction to go after real problems like red light runners and people who are riding bicycles in the middle of the night with no lights and finally all the homes jumpers on 5th F and G streets who purposely jump in front of moving vehicles. So how about doing something worth while or just backing it in and going home

I have had a great experience with Davis police except for the fact that I cannot seem to get ahold of an officer on the non emergency line for general questions (extension 0). I was waiting for several minutes multiple times and no one was able to take my call. Other than that they have been very helpful!

I've had a few interactions with officers and employees at the Davis police department. They are always rude and condescending.

I was attacked by someone at a gas station, and when I tried to follow up on the incident a few months later, I was told that they "forgot" to follow up on the investigation and was never allowed to see the final report.

I've had several other similar encounters, too numerous to list here. Basically, their attitude always makes you feel like you are just wasting their time.

We've had a few interactions with Davis PD and the officers have been very professional and quick to respond. The people who we had an honor to interact with at this Police Department are exceptional not in the direct line of work they do, which is emotionally and physically exhaustive and at times dangerous, but also as individuals and upstanding citizens of our community.
We are grateful to have such a multi-skill police team work here in Davis!

Terrible experiences at this department.

Terrible experiences at this department.
I've brought in a bike being stolen in progress that i stopped and they made me wait an hour and a half then closed.
Secondly, when my bike was stolen i found it on craigslist and they did absolutely nothing to help me despite having evidence that it is mine.

Dont bother with them.

They wrote a parking ticket.

They wrote a parking ticket.
When I called and asked to dispute it no one called back.
Meanwhile I mailed a check for $50 for the ticket.
A couple months later I got a letter from their collection agency saying that they're charging a late fee of $68!!
When I called (several runarounds) and sent proof of payment for the original ticket, they would not accept it as paid on time.
So, a $50 ticket cost me $118 - ripoff......

I called the police for help after being harassed by someone outside of my door. The person remained there for more than 30 minutes while I made other calls to try to get this person to leave. The person eventually left, but the police never came to speak with me about my call. After about another hour, I called the police non-emergency line to see ask why no one had showed up. Officer Christina Giannone (badge #225) stated that she came and spoke with the person and followed them off of my property; however, she never came to speak with me, which I think is very odd. Why would the police answer a call and not speak with the person who called? Why would she fail to hear my perspective? The person likely acted like everything was okay when (if?) she ever arrived. This is terrible service...I do not understand what sort of protocol this is---to not come to the person's door who called. Or at the least, follow up with a call to let me know what happened. I shouldn't have needed to call in order to see why they never showed, only to learn that they did (claimed to).

The parking permit process is a pathetic joke. They have a link to a pdf application on the website that I printed and mailed in with a check. The next week I received the check and form back stating they don't do this process anymore (so why is the form on your website??? take it down duh!) and told me to do it online. I ordered it on line May 22, still haven't received my permit almost 2 weeks later. Of course, you call the police dept and get in a phone tree from hell and there is no live person to answer. Where is my permit? Come on Davis PD, you can do better than this!

I never knew the cops needed to draw their guns and pull you an the passenger out of the car within 45 seconds and start searching it like you are doing something wrong when they pull you over for not wearing a seatbelt all cops across the United States should be wearing cameras so if any incident happens they can sit back and watch how ridiculous their reactions are to some of the citizens they pull over and maybe they can adjust their personality or attitude by watching themselves on video
Don't get mad I'm just sayin........... I'm not trying to complain I'm just trying to let people know what they are paying for in Davis when they pay taxes sorry I wish I had a photo because It don't give me an option to post a video this isn't YouTube

I found 2 of the 3 respondents I talked to at Davis PD to be rude and condescending. Its their job to take issues seriously, and I just don't feel like they did at all. Told to call another number once, told that I'd be phoned back a second time.

The thing is, that the problem that I was calling about was not even mine. They made me feel like I was not doing the right thing, that I was wasting their time and as if it was my job to take care of this. Waste of my time.
