Customs House Hotel Review

Couple of Melbournians here for the first time and completely blown away by the food and especially the service. Biggest shoutout to Paula & Ryan. Thanks for making our one dinner night in Tassie so special.

Great venue but during the afternoons seems to lack atmosphere. Few specials, quite pricry and staff could've been more involved.
Good beer, clean and comfortable though.

Great food. Polite and helpful staff. Warm and cosy. Great atmosphere. Convict hewn sandstone walls. Good range of Tasmanian wines.

Perfectly located nearby constitution dock where beaut seafood awaits an intestinal journey inside u - on ur way to the lovely salamander markets or ferry to Mona!

A nice hotel right on the harbor with modern rooms. Unfortunately, the soundproofing is not so good and you can hear the sounds from the restaurant on the first floor in the room! Excellent food in the restaurant. We recommend!

Dirty room, worst bed, staff seemed rude and didnt care because plenty of guest to chose from but great location wouldn't go back

Good food, but we sat out the front to enjoy the summer weather and having a smokers area right next to us with no screen, was not great! Smoke travels!
Would go back, but sit inside!

Allways enjoy having a few bundys & a bar meal at the Customs. Service good & bar meals nice. I was there Boxing Day & whilst the staff were under the pump a bit ( not enough staff were on ) they still did very well under the circumstances

Bar menu for dinner last night and restaurant tonight. Both very good and what you would want from each style.

Rather small room. Bed is comfortable with heater in the room to keep warm during winter. Staff is friendly and nice. Love the breakfast provided there.

Great clean modern room, included breakfast very good.

Went to the scallop feast last night. The food and service were great. Would highly recommend it.

Superb meal, Oysters Kilpatrick were top class, magnificent pork and well cooked steak. Thanks for the excellent service.

Great historic room for a meal. We had lunch. Good food close to Hobart waterfront attractions.

Great central location to sights, wharfs, restaurants and Salamanca Pl. Good value for money. Parking can be awkward. Street parking.
Rooms aren't big but for an overnight trip more than adequate.

Not a bad place to stay inner Hobart. Has great history but bar was very noisy on Saturday night, so didn't get a great sleep and not the cleanest of rooms.

Beautiful room and the Salmon in the restaurant was beautiful.

A fun place down by the docks, good local beer and seafood.

the hotel room is the worst in my experience in Tas.
facilities are old, carpet is pretty dirty,and shower is the worst part,water pressure is very low,I can't even wash my whole body ! really felt disappointed staying here.
another things,they said that I could pay 10AUD for using their parking space when I check in, and they charged immediately.
but they told me I should pay extra 5AUD for parking when I check out , I asked why,they just said 10AUD is the wrong price,and 15AUD is the correct one. I paid it without argument,but if I know it cost me 15AUD for using their parking space,I won't choose it.

Great place for a meal and drinks or a social catchup

We had a wonderful meal at Customs House this evening. Seafood was great. We will return.

Unfortunately this has been a thoroughly frustrating and unfortunate experience for us - we never write reviews but this deserves a special mention.

The hotel is run by the second generation and as a guest there is little to make you feel welcome.

There is no secure place for luggage and the staff are poorly trained to deal with customer relations.
The bathroom was filthy upon arrival with hair in the basin and shower.
The water pressure in the shower was dismal and the temperature kept changing from cold to luke warm.
The basin was blocked - we were so put off we took pictures of all of this.
The bed was well worn and uncomfortable.

With all of the above we did not even bother to speak to management - it would be unfair not to warn potential new customers of this place.

Wallaby sausages and homemade sauerkraut with BBQ sauce was great!

Fantastic location, helpful staff, great room, nice view from the balcony and a hot shower! What else do you need?! Would definitely stay here again

Had an awful seafood basket at the bar/restaurant. Seafood was stinking and tasteless. Didn't eat eat it as I was afraid to get problems with my stomach.

Place where you can get a reasonable meal. Cooking of red meat not to request

Friendly staff, offers variety of dishes, menu very good. Wine menu available.

Good for a drink and chat. The outside sitting area was good and the staff pleasant.

Excellent location, nice room (on the smaller side but not too tiny), and good food too

Organised to go to customs house with group and only had half of group turn up because of 2 accidents.. we sat in traffic for 2 hours but turned up. The Batman was extremely rude about the whole situation... not going back.... very rude and shouldn't be serving customers.

Food was delicious, friendly staff, great atmosphere

Don't stay here on a weekend. It's 5am and the thumping music is still going.

(Update) I just bumped it to 3 stars because of the great breakfast. The thumping stopped around 5.30...

Over priced had duck way over cooked ,snapper tasteless

We spent three nights here while exploring Hobart. We found it it to be a convenient location. Rooms were clean and tidy, a few reviews mentioned that it was noisy but we had a room towards the back and it was quiet. Breakfast was delicious!

Excellent food and lovely staff in a fabulous historical hotel.

Great venue in a great location and the food is brilliant, however you certainly pay well for what you get.

Service was good (we just had desert and hot chocolate). What we had was very good. I enjoyed the ambience.

Outstanding location with a cool historic bar. Rooms are nice and cosy.

Not a huge menu, except for wines and beers. Big serves, tasty food and excellent service. So stuffed full had to take most our mains away!!
