I was an employee at Cumberland Hospital for almost 10 years. This facility treats patients that no one else will touch! I currently work in other psych facilities and they would NEVER take the patients with the medical complications that Cumberland deals with. Please remember that this patient population is primarily defiant, refuses treatment, and are often aggressive. Cumberland deals with these behavioral issues while maintaining medical stability. I have had the most positive professional moments of my career at Cumberland! Helping a child and knowing you have made a difference in their life is the most rewarding experience! While working at at Cumberland I was trained how to safely handle aggressive behaviors while making sure no injury came to the patients. I was also trained OFTEN that patients should not be restrained unless they were a danger to themselves or others. If staff do not follow these practices they are terminated immediately. Patient abuse is not allowed at this facility. If you love to help children and can handle working with a difficult patient population this is an excellent facility to work at.

I thoroughly enjoyed my 2 years of employment at Cumberland Hospital. All nurses, support staff and admin were always extremely professional and put patient care as their top priority. The facility is clean and always appeared to be extremely well taken care of. During every holiday, they always went above and beyond to make the patients feel as if they were at home celebrating. I miss my time there and hope that my schedule will allow me to return one day.

So thankful for Dr.D , all the support and nursing staff for the care they gave to our son during his stay at Cumberland. One of the hardest thing my husband and I had to do was leave him in Va. under the care of Cumberland staff. The wonderful nursing staff treated our son with kindness, patience and respect. And Dr. D worked diligently to find a medication our son could tolerate and help him to have a much better quality of life , and for our entire family.

I was a Behavioral Counselor here several years ago and if the experience was traumatizing for me, I can only imagine what it was like for the patients. I tried hard to be a light a dark place but often feel I failed for not speaking up and truly advocating more for the kids. I am now a mother and would never even consider sending my child here for any treatment, for any period of time. Staff isn't properly trained and many are abusive. Management is poor and treat staff horribly. I have blocked out much of my time there and occasionally still have nightmares that I have to return. Please do not work here and absolutely do not send kids here.

I still have nightmares, I still have weight problems, I am still traumatized from the 8 months I was there in 2011! Dr. Davidow always gave me the creeps, he touched me inappropriately and it doesn't surprise me that he is under investigation as well as the hospital itself. PLEASE LISTEN TO YOUR KIDS IF THEY ARE AT CUMBERLAND, THEY ARE TRULY SUFFERING! I KNOW, I WAS ONE OF THEM! I begged my mom to come get me, but the therapist and doctors put on a facade and made my mom think I was just saying things so I could leave! PLEASE DON'T SEND YOUR CHILD HERE!!!

This facility does not treat patients in a positive manor and instead teaches them complacency with there illness.Everyday there is fights and a very unstable environment as well as a fair amount of unprofessionalism. Often children were kept far longer than need be for financial gain. The units are very unsanitary and more than likely your child will get worse here.
