County of San Diego, Polinsky Childrens' Center Reviews

This review is solely based on my experience. I'm not speaking for all people.
But the workers tried their best to keep me in a safe environment. They worked tirelessly to advocate for me, and I couldn't thank them enough. They are truly understanding people and recognize when to give space to someone. They explained things in a mature way and never resorted to any violence. I had a panic attack when I was supposed to go home, and they took the time to calm me down. The other teens I met there were mostly friendly, but there were fights between some of the other girls. I have a lot of sweet memories from there. Polinksy is good place especially if you have nowhere else to turn.

Speaking fromy own experiences. I've been there many times as a child and never had any issues. The only thing I thought was weird was my clothes were put away and I was given new ones. Which for a child, was weird for me. On the up side. They provided all new clothes, shoes, stuff to us for the shower.. all things that weren't provide by my own parents. Had 3 meals a day, plus snacks. During holidays, when I was there.. they always had special events.. it's amazing when you come from nothing.. was able to go to school and learn computer skills. Went on field trips to the movies. When you behave well, you get rewarded with special privileges. Once I was there with my sister but we we're placeplaced in different cottages because of our ages. I didn't like being away from her when we were there. I have nothing but good memories of place. It was definitely better than other places I was before.

I remember horrible experiences there because of my tragic past.

I have nothing but good and funny memories of that place. I miss Polinsky.

I think Polinsky definetly has its ups and down but for the most part it is okay. There are so irritating Duty Officers and Staffs but one staff I will say is okay Is Tomeka Hagan. She is amazing and goes out of her way

I feel like they need to work on how to communicate with children and help them when they need support very poor lacking service supervisor always give me the run around for me to access supply for my children they need more access to there behavior tords children some staff are awesome some are stuck up

They locked me and my friends out the cottage and I m very cold and soaking wet. I could get sick and they still have us outside. THIS PLACE SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN. They neglect the kids even though this is supposed to be a safe place for kids who have traumatic experiences.

20 years ago this place was horrible for me, nothing but bad memories and experiences, memories of me being shaken by staff, forced to take a Shower in a females shower room, being teased by staff that my family is here and then being told that they are gone because I took to long getting ready.
Really hope this place changed for the better

I was here for about a year back in 2001. Overall it was a good experience. Most the staff was nice. I didn't get much to eat growing up and I remember going there and finding out that I could eat as much as I wanted in the meal area. Friday was bacon and pancake day and that bacon was so greasy I got sick lol. Kids showed me how to pat the bacon with paper towels so that didn't happen again. Strict but safe place. Kinda miss it lol
