If there is minus 5 star, i will rate for that, the worst consulate in the planet.
Waatihoum essaha. I was please with our consulate people, very nice and polite. For the people who complain just please read the consulate website and make sure you have all documents. They are just doing their job so give them respect. Jazakoum Allah
Today May 5th got my passport in the mail, one week after the consulate got it. Jazakoum Allah and Rabi yahfed our consulate brother and sisters
To Algerian Embassy,
I've been trying to call you for the last 2 dys (at least) and the phone is constantly busy.. ...How do we get in touch with you..I am so frustrated.....this is really really a joke...I am very disappointed in the Embassy s lack of availability to its own nationals. At the very least, I feel that an answering service or even an automated response with an option to hear a recorded message would have been greatly beneficial . I hope that you will consider these options for the sake of Algerian citizens.
The worse. First of all they hardly ever answer your calls. When they happen to answer , here is a list of what to expect :
1- short tempered customer service representatives. They yell at you, if you ask them to be nice they End the phone call and leave you stranded.
2- every one says a different thing .
3- some of them have no idea what's happening , every time you ask them a question they put you on hold, they go ask first and come back to you with the answer. You say at least they answered, right??? When they do it for every question you ask it is annoying . They work there, it's the least you expect from them to know their job.
I get very frustrated, I feel bad for our beloved country because it is badly represented , my husband is American and when I tell him how hard it is to renew our passport, the fact that we have to go all the way to New York for fingerprints, he gets very surprised . Lately both theirs phone numbers don't work . They just never answer no more :(. Very sad . It is the first time a give a review, I find this mutter very deserving of my first review .
Thank you so much for the hard work. You just saved me a painful trip to NY, by sending my passport by Mail. The whole procedure took a bit over a week! So Yaay!
I am Joseph Azwaw, I was more than three times at the consulate, because of passports, consular cards etc ... I received only good service from the agents of the consulate. If I am satisfied, I am sure there are several others like me. Thank you to all the officials at the consulate.
Pennsylvania.
nobody responds to the telephone during the road the day they copy the habitues of Algeria
The service is very great, and Legan people are very good, thank you and your helpers. Thank you
Don t even call them. I m calling them and they don t answer. Shame on you!!!
I can see a lot of negative reviews in here and some of them are true. But the staff member at the embassy have been ever so helpful and have assisted me in ways I would never have expected even from my own country - the UK!
I have had an emergency situtation twice and in both times they have responded to my enquiry promptly and have helped me to the best of their ability. Once again; A big thanks you
I've been traited like queen everybody is nice they respect even the pepole who gets mad. you just have to bring or send all your papers in order and your stuff will be ready on time thank you guys for being nice to me and to my husband ... 123 vive les Algerian
Very professional staff, Very smooth service, Hats off to all the employees and especially the person running it.
Even within the U.S where there are unlimited resources, and there are no constraints from doing the job, you guys are still cheating and not doing your jobs correctly. If we want to be better as a country overall, we have to start a process of doing a better job with our own-selves so that we can improve as people and country.
Great service and wonderful staff thank you for your good hospitality and quick and good service
we live in California, we have being calling the embassy for more than three months, but no one answers the phone is busy from 9:00 Am to 3:00 Pm what is that? do we need to travail to New York to get some information,or get service which we can have it thraugh
a phone call?
i visited the consulate for the very first time last week end. my experience wasn't that bad comparing to other Algerian consulates in France for example. keep up the job
Hello everyone, I want to thank our Algerian Consulate of New York for the outstanding job to deliver everyone s need. I am really speechless and sorry for the negative reviews because I really didn't see that, I have seen nothing but professionalism and smile from them all, they are very nice and friendly. Sure the passports take longer than it was before all that is due to the volume of people and they are working very hard and doing their best to accommodate everyone s need, please follow the instructions and do what they ask then you will not have any issues, we all need to be patients. I am just very happy with them and I think they are working above and beyond to make it easy for us. We need to respect them as our fellow citizens and as human being, In order for them to help us we need to help them first by following exactly what they ask, all the info are on their website and very well laid out easy to understand.
A big thank you for our Consulate of New York stuff and god bless you all.
Nacer.
Very unprofessional service, The worst consulate ever on planet earth, pick up the phone !!!! You are a shame a consulate,,, YA WLAD EL HARKA HNA W TABA3TUNA , WKILKOM RABI
to all algerian who has been treated badly from the employees of the so called Algerian embassy in NY. those employees are here to serve our needs i they are not doing there job to satisfy that need. they need to be replaced. we have the write a letter collectively to the embassador to complain about this service and maybe then something will happen. They just can not bring the algerian mentality here, we left our country because of this..I sure dont want to experience it here.
It is almost 10am Friday and the answering machine is still on. i bet it will be on all day.. The people who gave 4 start they know someone from the inside( aa3rfe). STOP and look around and do what you came here for WORK for 8 hrs and go home.
Outstanding service. I don't blame them for not picking up the phone. Their waiting room was packed with people coming from different States with no appointments. The ones who were on site take priority and they did help everybody. I went with my wife and daughter and we all got our fingerprints/pictures taken the same day despite the fact that we came relatively late #20 (at 10:30 am) on the sign up sheet.
Good service and the staff doing good job. Keep it that way .
My second time here, totally different experience than my first one at the previous location. Staff is very professional, helpful and friendly, albeit, it might take time for them to verify and process documents, which is totally understandable the job is done. Building clean and neat. Thank you very much
After reading all these reviews, I was a little not at ease to go to New York from Denver, and I expected the worse...But the few members I dealt with were trying hard to please, and do their job. In particular a big thanks to Lahcen who manage to do a "speedy work" while I waited. And also Shafika who let me in from the outside freeze, (while I was waiting before the opening at 9:am) I did spend a lot by going all the way to NY for fingerprinting, but if we think about it nothings comes cheap. As an Algerians, we need to learn to back up each others, put our selves in others people shoes, before our initial automatic critics. Let's be an awesome nation, and to be that, it will have to start with you and me.
Allah bless you all.
I want to thank the consule for having put in service a staff that does its job well.
My experience at the Algerian consulate in New York was very pleasant, I was received and served by a certain Mrs. Naziha who was up to speed, smiling, and who knew how to manage the requests and to answer the different questions.
Good luck the team. :-)
The parsonel is fast and efficient notament the receptionist and the agent responsible for legalization of power of attorney, what I did not like is the building looks like a garage with offices and waiting room to the inside .. a little serious it is New York and Times Square besides .... in fact it gives the image of the incompetence of our leaders
I called the other day to check on my application i sent....the guy who took my call his name was khalid...guyz this guy was professional he gave me all i was looking for....thankx again
Professional support that deserves all our encouragement
I was there july 2nd 2019 .all workers were freindly and helping every body there .also i sow 1 thing a couple were there from texas and the time was 3 30pm and the workers stay there with here and help them wish they sopouse to close at thats time and they spend more time with here .also i had a diffrent idea than i was thinking before about them every body was happy to help me and answer all my question thats i was asking about .and explaine all things to me .i wanna thank you again .even the reseption the 2 gentelman also they were nice .one two three viva lalgerie .
Sent my military service file in 2012, never heard anything back from them. If i call they don't pick up if they do....oh well. I can't go to bled to see my family its been almost 5 years just because of the military service. I gave them two stars because they made my passport in less than 2 months, hopefully there is nothing wrong with it because i didn't pick it up yet. PEACE
Alright folks, here's a true story: I've applied for a visa and the embassy issued in exemplary timeframe without any problems whatsoever. The consular agent whose name is "NABILA" was extremely helpful: she took her time to verify the information, take notes of my concerns (mainly inspired from the review section) and she even called back to notify me that the visa was issued.
Fellows, I've dealt with this embassy before for a Service National card, for Consular registration, for passport and now for a visa, believe me; the people are extremely helpful. They're human beings and prompt for error as sometimes you can tell they're under some pressure, but at least your calls aren't transferred to a call center. Many embassies don't offer a phone service and if they do, they don't handle much on the phone. So please be thankful for what you have..., I feel sad to read all negative reviews...,
Here are a few tips of how to deal with the Algerian Consulate in New York:
1- Be nice, gentle and understanding.
2- Have a bit of patience as you aren't the only one on their plate!
3- If mailing a passport or any other important documents, make sure it is trackable.
4- From my experience, always follow up on your application from the moment you send it until you receive it.
5- Last but not least, Algerians are very generous and are ready to go miles with you if you just have good ethics and nice behavior. Being on outrage, insulate or any of the like won't take you too far. So BE NICE.
Thank you for your collaboration and thanks Nabila for your help.
Excellent service !!! I was so happy and amazed with everything ....i flew all the way from los angeles and had everything ready and everything that i wanted...
I was able to get my fingerprints taken for my biometric passeports...my son got also his receipt for his passeport
I renew my consular card and the lady brought it directly in my hands in the waiting room...
My son was born in the US so i requested a birth certificate ...they made it right away and gave me 2 !!! One in french one in Arabic..
And lastly i received both of the 12S...My son and mine...
They were all helpful and smiling !!!!
Thank you so much for everything !!! You guys are the best !!!!
I wanted to leave this review because people are always complaining and it is not true...
I always always got emails back from the consulate too ...and they always answered all my questions...before i flew to New York and always was able to talk to someone.
THANK YOU to the whole team at the Algerian Consulate.
Nelia Dakhia
I went to the Algerian consulate in New York on March 10, 2018 to collect my national biometric identity card and my consular card. The welcome was warm and the atmosphere inside was family friendly. The cleanliness of the premises was impeccable. An agent by the name of Mourad had taken charge of my case and of which I take this opportunity to present him my thanks as well as my gratitude for his help, his kindness and the warm welcome which had offered me during my first experience. within this consulate @

Terrible customer service.
No doubt that they are all connected to the mafia in Algeria.
That is very saddening.
Bad and rude customer service over the phone and email(Good luck getting hold of them ). I can't believe we still have to put up with this crap.
They told my wife that she still has to get a letter of invitation from my family in Algeria even thought she is married to me :)
We were told last time we were there that she all she needs is a letter from me and that's about it.
I really hate dealing with embassy of crap
1- employees do not answer the phone.
2- It's been 10 months since we sent our family booklet to register our first baby and we asked for a family card but we did not receive anything.
3- when we went to New York to deposit our passports. The agents have been found completely out of date while it is not the sea to drink. 100 or more records a day is not too much. Establish s12 and take footprints this is not the sea to drink.
4- I asked for a family card, in all audacity the employee answered me that it is not the moment. It's been 10 months that I claim this file and in the end he told me it's not the moment when I do not live in New York.
5- just a point on an employee he was helpful and nice if not big modo it's poorly organized
The worst corrompt ever never believe on their smiles
I tried to call several times, phone seems off the hook !!! If you can"t have a life person to talk to that"s tells a lot about this Consulate and the people that work there. Nobody seems to care !
I don't know where to start. They brought the lousy algerian stone age bureaucracy with them to new York among all places. They are unreliable, you can't get in contact with them. Can you imagine that they want you to send them a notorized letter(waist of time and money) absolving them of any wrong doing if they lose your papers in the mail. (Ironically stupid. Since you can get the american passport with out this damn letter in the normal mail). Who the hell they think we are? Stupid? Are you telling me that it is possible for me to sue the Algerian government if my paper work get lost . Since when did Algeria become that transparent with rule of law and justice? Folks this whole review page is a joke I have been here for more than 40 years. And it has been the same or may be getting worst. Reviews don't matter to this administration. We can bark all we want. No one is listening. That is the sad state of affairs we algerians are in.
Likely things are going much butter. However they still need to improve the Algerian method of communication "Saha madame" on the phone!!!!
I sent my application for a passport on nov 2014 and I never heart from them so I had no choice than get in a plane and traveling all the way to New York. Hopefully the application was ready for fingerprints and it was fast.
However, I toook two days of and the trip cost about $900!!!!!!!!!!! For Algerian passport.
Africa is never that far
Thank you so much for everything the services quick
Like you would expect any good service from them.
5 hours just to get my pics taken for a passport. They work hard to keep their bad legacy around the world I guess (same terrible service in Paris)
This is a whole new level of bureaucracy.
It took 4 (!) times before they finally, magnanimously accepted my visa application - every time there was a new requirements ("Oh we also need a money order"), even though no mention at all on their website.
Upon arrival you don't get a number; it's just first-come-first-serve basis. You'll just have to figure out who was there before you. Every once in a while a guy comes out and yells "passports, passports" or some other person yelling "visa, visa" after which everyone scrambles and jockeys for position. Chaos all around, I've seen families with kids for more than 4 hours.
Now it has been 3 weeks since my visa application, no word from them that it's ready. So I try calling several extensions but no one picks up their phone ever, especially not the operator.
If you need a visa, better arrange it a month in advance of your travel and good luck to you.
Update: it's been now over 8 weeks since my application was accepted, and I'm still WAITING for a visa.
The irony is that I work for a well-known non-profit humanitarian organization (which is very clearly stated in my application). Whatever I was going to do in Algeria, was ultimately for the benefit of Algeria and the Algerian people....
UPDATE:
So I finally got my visa - 12 (!) weeks later. My window of opportunity to do this project in Algiers, has long gone. These people should be ashamed of themselves.
Worse, a nightmare. Sorry, this is the image of Algeria
I want to thank Walid, Karim, Haroun and also every person who worked today at the consulate for their great reception. Your reception was absolutely spectacular. Keep up the good work.
I was at the consulate for renewing my passport ,and I was really happy for the service ,and the passport service department.
The only thing I did not like is the location of the consulate ,if they have a butter location easy access .thank you
I m not use to leave reviews however is the service but this time I wanna leave one Because of one lady who started to yell at me in the phone! She is impolite and Uneducated!Indisciplined person. Her place isn t in the administration. She is just like zero! I have pity for this kind of people! If I can give zero star to the customer service of this consulate I ll do it because it doesn t deserve even half star
There is never someone at the visa line. Stop being cheap and hire a person to answer that damn phone .
I had the worst experience ever she was screaming and being rude. I don t know if she s doing her job right because she s dumb.
The worst embassy in the world and you can't even understand what the hell there saying! These people give a bad image to the Algerian people back home! Shame on you!!!
I'm wondering if they know how to answer the phone ...
The worst consulate ever in the world please answer the phone
THE WORST embassy in the whole wide world. I sent in all my paper work for a passport renewal since March of 2015 and it's now June 1st and I haven't got my passport yet. I called them 2500 times and they only answered the phone 3 times, they promised me that they will send out the passport the following week and that was in April 15. In May 08, I called them again and someone from extension 113 (Male rep.) told me that they need a return envelope, so I sent them a return envelope with a letter on the same day, May 08, 2015 and we haven't heard back from them. Like I said it's now June 1, 2015 and I am still waiting. Believe it or not, I've been calling them since 9:30am PST and it's now 10:55am PST and still no answer. I am calling them right now on extensions: 105, 111, 113 and still no luck, so I've been trying different extensions like 100, 108 and 112 and YET, still no one answer. Who do I complain or write to with matters like this? Because this is just BULLSHIT. I am planning to go back home in July, 2015 but I can't book a plane ticket yet because I have no passport. They don't even deserve a star on this review. The worst Embassy ever, Consulate General of Algeria in New York.
It's been 3 days now, yhat I m trying to reach the embassy whether on Biometric passport department or the general inquiry numbers, please if someone has an update that doesn't appear on there website to share with us.
regards
It's always a pleasure to deal with them they are very accommodating, and making process much easier than it use to be. A lot a changes since a couple of years now.
We (Algerian) always have a tendency to be very demanding by nature, but when I have a chance to exchange experience with friends dealing with other consulates in Europe in France in particular I realize how lucky we are... Some of you will just explain by the theory of numbers... Thanks again guys, keep doing the great job
We arrived in New York on Friday from Columbus, OH, hoping to go to the consulate on a Saturday. We found on the website that the consulate was closed after we had already driven 8 hours, however we still went on Saturday hoping we could find someone to help us. & we did! They let us in, and the many others that were there waiting regardless of the fact that they were suppose to be closed. They were nothing but pleasant and the consulate specifically did everything she could for us. Not only did they help us but they also invited us to a celebration for Algeria day.
At this time they can be very busy but they are do wins the best to do everything for our community they are the best people ever please be patient please visit the website they have all the information you need my God protect and bless Algeria
In the past I have had many bad experiences with the staff of the Algerian Consulate in Washington DC, from delays, no responses to my applications, errors in official documents, to misplacing documents and so on.. There are too many mishaps to list here.
in DC at the Algerian Consulate the staff works like they are still in Algeria and they treat Algerien citizens different: AlMa3riffa, la bureaucracy et bien sure l'Incompetance.
Enter the Consulate in NYC
However I am glad my consular services got switched to this office in NYC, the staff here at the Rockefeller office are professionals, customer oriented and very helpful. and we can not thank them enough. thanks for a job well done!
Very nice and helpful people working here, was a pleasant experience and it didn't take as long as expected!
Has anyone applied online and gotten an answer or at least an appointment set up? My application status never changed since day one! Paper easy to replace but money order and postage to deliver hard copy to the consulate over night and have document delivered back to me was a waste! Please help!!!!
Great experience !!!great people!!!
They helped more that i was expecting
Was Excellent costumer service when you walk in all employees are very nice thank you but the worst is can u pick fkn phone please
Salam .I think all most of the people doing complain ...is who just trying to fix there cases on a phone but trust me if you walking in you will fix it the same day ..I went there and I saw people not stop they working really hard and they try to do the best ....
We have been treated very well, The team was very professional, organized and humble... even though it was crowded but they were so humble and helpful and fast at service.. my family and I appreciate your kindness and help with all passports, visa, and military card. Everything was taking care of at one visit to the consulate... so thank you guys ! :D
Very unprofessional service. Typical behavior of the 4th world. They've been claiming to be busy for more than a year now although we are a small community (probably the smallest in the U.S). They do not respond to email either. how the hell are we supposed to set up an appointment for the bio-passport. Why do even advertise contact info.
You are just a reflection of your government.
The worst customer service you have ever seen in the civil department for power of attorney (procuration). A mini Algeria (elqadima) with its highest form of bureaucracy and ignorance.
However, a great person named Karim, in the military department, is the type of people we want working for the Algerians in the Algerian consulate in New York.
Thank you Mr Karim for your integrity and outstanding work ethics.
The staff at the Consulate General of Algeria in New York was very welcoming and professional which made for a very friendly and efficient atmosphere. I would like to applaud the individuals who provided me with the excellent service I received. The building was very well maintained and all the processes ran smoothly. Once again, I would like to thank them for their amazing service.
Best regards to the wonderful Algerian team at the consulate who work so hard to make sure everyone's is taken care of, we enjoyed the visit , it felt Iike home to see these guys and girls in the consulate. Vive l'algerie
They're always helpful, they do their best to satisfy you and give you the right information. There is a guy in the visa section with glasses, who is very efficient and kind. Keep Going the great job.
I would thank everybody for the great service they offer for us in the consulate starting with the men in the reception , the gentlemens who were really helpful with us , it took me few moments to get everything I was looking for and honestly I was super glad that we have people like them in our consulate , thank you guys for everything .
Advice : check everything on the website before going there . It's better for you brothers & sisters to make everything easy .
Ps : some people especially the brutals who have complex and they want to show power only with Algerians , you can be nice and follow the instructions and try to don't be rude because it doesn't help you , I can assure you that you won't win anything when you play the villain
Thanks to every one at the consulate and specially the gentleman name LAHCENE
I got a little issue with one of my files and every one who talked to me let me feel it was their fault but it wasn't and they stayed with me till 5 pm until every thing was good to go.
THANK YOU THANK YOU
There is an old man who works here . He is very bad with communication . Im really upset to seeing someone rude like him on here . And i will never comeback
All I can say is that, they dont give a damn and they have no compassion, perhaps money talk when it comes for help, like back home (Rashwa ).
I DARE YOU
This is the only Consulate in the entire America that would request their Citizen to travel to NY to get their passport !!!!!!! I DARE YOU THIS IS UNBELIEVABLE. I have to take almost the whole week off, spend couple thousand to this round trip ( airplane ticket, hotel room for the whole family and dinner out to get our fingerprints ) Noooooooo you go back to the country we don t want you here. Nooooooo this is not fair. Noooooo I can t believe it......... We left the country and you guys are following us all way to America to keep applying your non sense bureaucracy and policies that scares away everyone..........Nooooooooo I can t believe it. I am filling a complaint with appropriate Institutions to denunciate this unconstitutional measure that you do to us and to our families. Noooooooo I can t believe it. This is unbelievable. They brought the old bureaucracy system to the US. How come is this possible to have them representing us the diaspora?
Can someone answer me Or should I flash the toilet lol ?
I hate dealing with these ppl, Algerians are lazy per nature known that they want to get paid without any effort!!! but those ppl are dead!!!! calling their phone daily no answer 10 times a day every 30 mins starting at 9 am no chance for 2 weeks, workers just getting paid with no effort, we need to send their asses back to Algeria!!!!! wherever Algerians go in the world stays holding to the same morals & values feaken no serviceeeee
The worse. I call every day. No one is replying?
If you keep calling the whole year, no one reply.
I don t understand the negative reviews I ve never had any issues with them always answered my calls,my questions five stars thank you
This Algerian Consulate has the worst customer service on the planet. I couldn't understand how did these employees get hired. Everyone that I had to deal with was very rude, unprofessional, acting like they were pleased to treat people unfairly (they act like KINGS, with no servers, so they want customers to be at their mercy). Very shamefull for Algeria to have these rude people working there. By the way, I didn't get the visa to go to Algeria, I had to go to Morocco instead just because of these employees. I heard them treating one of their citizens (Algerian family from Georgia) who came over to get some papers, and they found themselves in unwelcome situation, just because they were telling these employees that they wasted time and money to get there just because the employees weren't answerring the phone or their emails. I witnessed the argumentation between these employees and that family, and beleive me, the employees were wrong and absurd on how they treated that family. Shame, shame, shame... on the entire Algerian consulate and Algeria......
Never had any issues with the algerian consulate in NY..
the worst embassy ever, i tried to call all numbers on the contact list including emergency contact and emails, without response. anyway congratulation for CHKOPISTAN ( People's Democratic Republic of Algeria ), thank you.
Very nice welcome. Very clean place and a very good atmosphere. Staff smiling and well organized
Good service. The Military card process took around 14 months. The consulate is not responsible to speed up the process they work to facilitate and send your documents to the issuing authority in Algeria.
Update - visa process for my wife was super easy and convenient.
Thank you!
most of what is going on at the consulate still does not make sense , same mentality as back home , beside Karim a very helpful gentlemen always smiling and ready to bring tensions down and answering all my questions worthy of his position and more .
he made my experience at the consulate somewhat positive that is why I am rating it a 4 stars.otherwise its a 2 stars taken for never answering the phones and a 1 star taken for saying things that are different than what the website says "incompetence ", left with 1 star for still existing. I am still debating that with myself maybe its better if it didnt exist at all we were much better before this NY consulate .
Thanks to all the staff members, they were very kind and helpful, like we knew them from a long time. It was a busy Saturday, they didn't even have their lunch break. And Thanks to the Algerian Administration for making everything simple and easy.
