I am a 2005 graduate of the Master Recording Program II class. What I tell new and aspiring sound engineers about going to CRAS or another audio school is this: Becoming a good or great sound engineer is like climbing to the top of a mountain. It s hard work, determination, constant learning, skill building and teamwork that will be required to get you to the top one day. But before climbing that mountain you need climbing boots, supplies and climbing gear to be well prepared for the journey. That s what The Conservatory does they prepare you to make the ascent. So what if you don t go? Well...it s like starting your climb with the shirt on your back and barefoot...Is it possible to make it? Sure but not probable. Do yourself a favor get what you need to start from CRAS. I am now a Technology Director at a large church in my community and part of my full time employment encompasses sound for film, podcast mixing, live sound, live internet broadcast, live recording, studio recording, sound system install and tuning/troubleshooting, mixing, mastering and I even had setup and tune my own listening position for critical work. It would have taken me another decade to get where I am now if it hadn t been for the start I got from The Conservatory.

I've been attending the Conservatory for over three months now and have nothing but love for the amazing teaching and instructors that have a passion for their work field. I'm excited to continue my education here and see what the future has in store!

I have attended many audio/video production related trade schools and certificate programs over the years, looking back I must say that cras was the best one :) really enjoyed my time there with all the cool classes and teachers, good times, and a very eye opening experience and networking opportunity. Thanks cras :)

This school is why I have a career in the audio industry that I love. I honestly can't think of what they could have done more on their part to prepare me for it.

Like any field that has a surplus of people vying to work in it, a career won't just be given to you on a platter. If you chose to go into the music industry after your audio education you have to be prepared for internships that offer no pay, and make you work for each rung on the ladder. It's just the nature of the industry, and CRAS never lies to you about it. They prepare you for it.

This school teaches you everything you need to know to get your foot in the door, and helps you get intimate internships that can bloom into careers if you PUT THE WORK IN.

Of my graduating class, each person I vividly remember going above and beyond is working in the industry. One such individual has worked with many famous artists, and most recently has a credit on the notable Blonde album by Frank Ocean.

For myself: internships weren't for me, so I made a career doing production and post audio in the film industry. I work freelance full time, make good income, and have all the standard benefits of 'being my own boss'.

There's a TON of audio work outside the music industry, so if you enroll in the school always be open to all the options available. Take the extra classes, make connections with all the teachers, and getting your dream gig won't be a fantasy.

Don't waste your time or money on a team that doesn't communicate with you until it is too late. Lots of technical problems as well, assignments and attendance sometimes do not appear on their end and you will suffer for it.

I graduated from the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences in 2020. And as an international student I couldn't be more grateful for all the support the school has given me. The amount of experience, tools and knowledge that the school provided me with was undoubtedly an important factor in discovering and pursuing my path in the professional audio industry. Each of the people that conform CRAS made me feel at home, in an environment of respect and willingness which gave me the security to face the working world in the best possible way.

Let's be honest, there are many better options when it comes to obtaining audio engineering certifications.
Take it from me:
I went for about 3 1/2 months and in that time I was working to pay for rent, car repair, groceries and just survive, in general. This required I work when I wasn't at school but also resulted in my termination from the school. I worked late nights and long shifts just to be able to attend school. However, they terminated me from the program because I wasn't giving enough time to the school. They told me that, if I wanted to come back (Ha, not likely), I would need to be able to afford 9 months of living with no job so I could completely focus on the school.
Thing is, if I had the kind of money it takes for that to be an option, I wouldn't even need to go! Now I'm in tremendous debt to a school I attended for 3 1/2 months and I will be for a long time to come.
This school doesn't care about you, as a person, they care about your money and, should you "make it big", that they are attached to your name and anything you do in your career. They are WAY too expensive and they could care less if you're in debt and kicked out of the program.

So, all that said, should you attend CRAS? In a word: NO!

I rate five stars. I loved my experience here. I even worked here. Let me tell you all something. Go intern. Don t go to school for this. Unless you are already in the field and want to know a bit more and have a degree don t go to school for this. Go be an electrical engineer. You will earn more. If you want to become an Audio engineer (and make money) stick to YouTube and interning. The greatest asset about CRAS is the internship department. Other than that go a cheaper route. Best of luck.

They abuse their power and want you too be a prisoner until the day you graduate from your internship I was kicked out because project staff locked me out the building for over 20 minutes and when I knocked on the door project staff proceeded to cop an attitude with me for knocking on the door. Shortly after that conversation me and him had I was told I'm not allowed on campus after hours anymore.
