We visited Congregation Mickve Israel on a recent trip to Savannah. It is a beautiful synagogue in the historic district. The docents were very knowledgeable and bring the history of the 3rd oldest synagogue in the US. In fact its founding is almost as old as Savannah itself. The synagogue building dates back to 1878, and its Gothic style is rare for temples today. The many stained glass panels are vivid when seen on sunny days. On the second floor, there is a small museum with 2 deer-skin Torahs, among other historical artifacts.

Amazing, historic synagogue and museum. A Torah from the 1400s that came over from England in 1736 with the first ship of Jewish immigrants fleeing religious persecution. Many other fascinating and historic artifacts. Highly recommended.

I met adeline wolfe in Boulder Colorado in 1985 she was a descendant of the founding members of the original Sephardic synagogue. We spent many hours having stimulating conversation and though in her nineties absolutely no memory loss. An absolute delight...fond memories !

A very beautiful synagogue in the heart of Savannah's historic district. Lots of history and interesting artifacts from the Jewish population of past Savannah. If you're touring the historic district this is worth the time. The staff was friendly and the tour guides very knowledgeable. And as the t shirts say, Shalom y'all. Cool and interesting. Check it out.
