Comtrol Corporation: The Leading Provider of Serial Connectivity Technologies and Specialized Application Systems
For over 35 years, Comtrol Corporation has been a leading provider of serial connectivity technologies and specialized application systems. The company is known for its innovative solutions that help businesses improve their productivity, efficiency, and profitability.
Comtrol Corporation was founded in 1982 by Steve Olson and Jim Perri. The company's initial focus was on developing products that would enable computers to communicate with industrial equipment. Over the years, Comtrol has expanded its product line to include a wide range of serial connectivity technologies such as device servers, terminal servers, serial cards, and USB hubs.
One of the key strengths of Comtrol is its ability to provide customized solutions for specific applications. The company's team of engineers works closely with customers to understand their unique requirements and develop tailored solutions that meet their needs. This approach has helped Comtrol build a loyal customer base across various industries such as manufacturing, transportation, healthcare, retail, hospitality, and more.
Comtrol's flagship product line is the RocketPort family of multiport serial cards. These cards are designed to provide high-performance connectivity for mission-critical applications such as process control systems, point-of-sale terminals (POS), kiosks, ATMs (automated teller machines), medical devices, and more. RocketPort cards are available in various form factors including PCI Express (PCIe), Universal Serial Bus (USB), Ethernet/IP network interface modules (NIMs), RS-232/422/485 interface modules (IMs), etc.
Another popular product line from Comtrol is the DeviceMaster family of device servers. These servers enable remote access to serial devices over Ethernet networks or the Internet using standard protocols such as TCP/IP or UDP/IP. DeviceMaster servers are ideal for applications where it is not feasible or cost-effective to run dedicated cabling between devices or where wireless communication may be unreliable.
Comtrol also offers a range of terminal servers that allow multiple users to access serial devices simultaneously over Ethernet networks or dial-up modems. Terminal servers are commonly used in environments where legacy equipment needs to be integrated with modern IT infrastructure without replacing existing hardware.
In addition to hardware products, Comtrol also provides software tools that help customers manage their serial connectivity infrastructure more efficiently. For example:
- PortVision DX: A web-based management tool that allows administrators to monitor and configure RocketPort cards remotely.
- DeviceMaster UP: A utility program that simplifies the setup process for DeviceMaster server installations.
- Virtual Serial Port Kit: A software package that enables virtualization of physical COM ports on Windows operating systems.
Overall, Comtrol Corporation has established itself as a trusted partner for businesses looking for reliable solutions in the field of serial connectivity technologies and specialized application systems. With its focus on innovation and customer satisfaction combined with decades-long experience in this domain makes it one-of-a-kind service provider globally!
