I attended an ancient British University, but my daughter is a PhD candidate at the Columbia Engineering Fu Foundation SEAS. She attended Harvard SEAS for undergraduate, affording her an opportunity to compare the Cambridge Schools with Columbia. Columbia University admits students as smart as Harvard University. The difference she noted is that Columbia Faculty are more accessible to their undergraduates, and the 9 departments at the Columbia Engineering is like having a Caltech attached to a big Ivy league university. At the graduate level, Columbia does not fund its graduate students well, and you need an external funding source, unlike Harvard. The New York /Broadway effect is huge for both educational and reducing academic stress for Columbians. This combination of academic rigor and life experiences afforded by New York is educational in all the senses of the word !

The combination of a diverse and rigorous curriculum, extraordinary students and teachers, and the buzz of the "Big Apple", appeals to many but still scares some parents at the undergraduate level. Columbia College or Columbia Engineering coupled with the "street smarts" New York life, offers is synergistic advantage. At the post graduate level, the quality of research of doctoral candidates, postdoctoral Fellows and the Faculty, makes Columbia University, one of most impactful global places to conduct academic research

It's an amazing university. You get both the city life and the seclusion of a college campus. It's a gorgeous place to visit and it's even more beautiful when you're there around the winter. I recommend traveling and spending and afternoon in the upper west side area.

Columbia gives you an access to a great network, excellent professors, smart classmates, professional opportunities, and even Grade Non-Disclosure. There are two things that make Columbia stand out: New York City and finance classes/opportunities. I chose Columbia because it was a top 10 school and I wanted to live in NY mainly for personal reasons.

There are a few other things that make Columbia excellent:
(1) A surprising level of community, especially for a "city school." (2) NYC. I really only thought about this from a personal perspective coming in but it is a helpful resource since every industry and almost every big company has offices in NY you can find time to meet with people from any industry or company you might be interested in without having to plan your whole day or week around it. I just don't see those kind of things being possible outside of NY.

There are some downsides to Columbia though.
(1) Business school is expensive and NYC is expensive, put them together and you end up paying a painful amount of money. (2)
It is generally understood that our marketing professors aren t very good. My core marketing class was painful and electives were generally taught by mediocre visiting professors pretty disappointing when you see the industry legends teaching the finance courses.
(3) The facilities are, for lack of a better word, poor.

This University is very interesting in the way that they like to segregate people and show preference based on skin color and sexual orientation. What happened to teaching and letting people be free to show what they are made of on the inside and not the outside appearance that they were born with? It's sad.

I like Columbia's campus, it is quite spacious and makes you feel as though you have entered a scholarly area, which is what I expect of college campuses. The great lawn is indeed great and the library has a wide range of scholarly journals. Columbia is pretty great with the amount of opportunities it has for its students. A draw back is the reputation and treatment it has of the surrounding communities it occupies.

Such a beautiful campus to walk around. Obviously the school is well known for their high standards in academics. I suggest anyone wanting to attend school here schedule a tour through the school, staff is very helpful and informative.

Campus is well worth a visit even just to take in the scenery. Try to spot the subtle differences between the four main buildings that sit in the center, on either side of the street that crosses the campus. Great bookstore

It's a beautiful campus. Outside you can feel like you are in England. There are many great statues and architecture to see. The time to go is now! There aren't many people around. Bring a book to read or do your work.

I am still in seventh grade, but I already want to prepare for college, and I dream of studying in another country, I am even smart so maybe I can get a scholarship in the future, this seems to be good, I was more interested in it than in Yale, now I just have to start my online English course,

One star because you can't get a Dr's appointment, you wait 3-5 months
and if you are Lucky enough to get an initial appointment, the follow UP is the same 3 months wait, NO night Hours, you have to take the day off from work. Great Dr.'s but what is the point if you can't see them ?

Last year we were able to tour the University campus as a cousin of my wife studied there and gave us the tour. About its history it can be said that it is the oldest in the state of New York and one of the most prestigious in the country. Founded in 1754 as the Colegio del Rey. In 1784 it was renamed as it is today.

It occupies about six blocks of upper Manhattan and the neighborhood is very safe and pleasant to navigate. Some figures like Barack Obama, Paul Auster, Franklin D. Roosevelt studied at that university.

We really enjoyed the tour.

I loved everyone I met in there. Students and staff are some of the greatest people I met in my life. Dealing with them taught me a lot about how to respect the differences between us and accept everybody equally regardless what they do or believe. Thank you Columbia for letting me experience this great life changing experience.

I m an applicant to Columbia University 2019-2020! I had very great experience with an interviewer as well as campus tours. The history of this university is interesting and motivating you to new beginnings! Even if I would be rejected, thank you Columbia for all experience I gained through my lifetime as conferences and great professors speeches! Looking forward to coming over to your campus as soon as possible to get new motivation for my entire life! Thank you!

My experience as a graduate student at Columbia's Journalism School may have been a little different than if I lived in the dorms in my late teens or early 20s. Nonetheless, the Morningside Heights campus is one of my favorite locations in all of New York City. There are beautiful quiet places to study, read and socialize. I love attending evening events and lectures throughout the campus, especially at the Roone Arledge Auditorium and the World Room at the Journalism School. I think I would have enjoyed learning more about Greek Life and attending campus parties if I had attended the school as an undergraduate.
