Had two incidents that involved them in the last two months. Both times the officer on scene was both polite and quick to resolve the issue. When I call the non-emergency number to get updates or information about the police report, they have been easy to talk with and provide answers. So far, so good.

I was involved in an accident on Mar 7, 2016. The city officer wrote down the wrong vehicle info for my car. I did talk to the officer about this a few days after the accident. He said he would correct it. That was the last I heard from him. I did talk to someone a couple wks later. I was told to go to the police dept down town and get a copy of the corrected FR-10 form. I did that and the young woman said it was in the pc, she said she talked to her supervisor and couldn't print it out since the officer did not turn in a hard copy. She then sent me to the "front desk" and they would help me get in touch with him. That was Mar 23. To make a long story short, I have NOT been able to get in touch with the officer and have gotten nothing but the run around from the Columbia City police dept. Even my own insurance company cannot get in touch with anyone there.

Some of the officers at the main headquarters off of Washington are very lazy & show no empathy at all. I waited 5 minutes before having to ask "Can I please get some help?" while another cop comes in with a vest on & a badge & everyone runs up to the window to ask what did he need help with. I came in to file a police report due to my car being vandalized & the officer who was supposed to be providing security for the parking lot that the incident occurred in made a huge scene stating that he didn't see any cars get vandalized. Well of course not sir because you weren't there on duty as you claimed you were! I am currently waiting on the police report & the cameras to be pulled so that I can get a resolution or I will have to escalate the issue as need be. It is very sad that the people "in authority" that we're told to go to for help only make the issue ten times more stressful or provide little to no help at all. I can't wait for this all to be over.

I am disgusted and outraged to hear the story of Turbo s unnecessary death at the hands of the negligent Master police officer David Hurt. This poor excuse for a police officer displayed total disregard for the police dog that was in his care. Both Chief Holbrook and Police Officer David Hurt should be fired immediately!!! A five day suspension left me scratching my head wondering how your police force treats the citizens of Columbia. What a backward out of touch place!!! Does Master police officer Hurt leave his children in a hot car for 6 long hours. His total disregard for the life of this beautiful dog Turbo is heartbreaking and I urge the citizens of Columbia SC to call for the removal of David Hurt and Holbrook from the police force immediately. Please take action!

Today my wife and I noticed a suspicious individual at our neighbors home. Granted we have only lived in our neighborhood (Cottontown) less than a month. However neither one of us have see this person. They were trying to access one of our neighbors sheds in the back yard and looked apprehensive when they were seen by me and my wife. I called Columbia PD's head quarters to report the activity and with a few short questions they immediately transferred me to 911 nonemergency. While talking to dispatch an officer responded less than 8 minutes of my initial call.

The officer that responded to the call approached me and was very polite and helpful and then approached the suspect at which I left the scene.

How can an officer be absolved of a crime the general population would be charged and convicted of? You wonder why people hate you; it's reasons like this. Turbo didn't have to die. Your officer was either intentionally negligent, or acted in malace. Who in their right mind does this? On top of it; this K9 is an officer. Charges must be brought on to the responsible officer.

Unnecessarily threatening. I got a ticket and the officer had his hand on his gun the entire time we spoke. I honestly didn't feel safe at all. I'm a 150 lbs 19 year old girl. There was no need for him to essentially attempt to either provoke a reaction or intimidate me.

This place is a joke. What is going on because they are not serving and protecting nobody but criminals. They are making fake police reports. They are filing assaults and terroristic threats as informational to aid criminals in not facing the so call justice system. This place is washed and out. The Richland County Sheriff Department need to shut them down and take over. What a failure to the people of this community. I have no respect for them ever again. Targeting innocent people to get them locked up. ummm are they "gangstalking"

While most understand Police Dept shouldn't be "liked". In this case the people are genuinely displeased. I once applied to this dept. I stopped halfway in between being hired because of the poor attitude and unprofessionalism I got here. I've seen what these people hire and it's the bottom of the barrel. All I observed when I walked in the building every day was Officers lounging around and had the most unenthusiastic apathetic attitudes. The only time I've seen them really do their job was when they are hitting up local townspeople for minor offenses. Everyone can reach a consensus that something needs to change here.

I was completely stunned by an officer's rudeness today at a broken stoplight he was stationed in front of. I can't imagine any business allowing its employees to act the way he did. It was really unfortunate and left me disappointed that he represented our city that way.

I just read a story about "Master" Police Officer David Hurt (whatever the f that means) from this department, who was too stupid to check on his police dog in a hot car and essentially murdered him. And the chief of this department didn't press charges or even fire this idiot, saying he made "a mistake of the heart." What kind of bs is this? Mistake of the heart???!!! This person has no heart. Police officers are NOT above the law. If I were driving through this town and did something a fraction as bad as murdering a police dog through negligence, I would be fined, arrested, and maybe even shot.

No accountability! 5 days off for killing a police dog? What would a civilian have been charged with?
Disgusting! This is why there is a disconnect between police and the public.
The officer and the chief should resign.

They can't seem to pick up the phone! It's frustrating because what if I have a serious question. Also I was put under investigation and they found NO evidence in my personal vehicle and you know what they did. They put my car in an impound lot and told me I had to pay to get it out. But there was no evidence. I am a 17 year old with a minimum wage job. I can't afford 150$ plus 25$ a day!

I was at The mall on Harbison blvd. the security officer asked me to move while picking up my friend who is disabled. He security person could not figure out how to roll down the window and yelled at me through it. Then started to tell me that I need to stop yelling at him. (He kept saying What? ) when I was talking normal. While he blocked traffic all this took place. Within 3 min a Columbia police officer shows up and hits the siren. Why is it that it take over an hour when you call for a crime, but when you are in a no parking zone sitting in the car they can be there in less than 3 min. I see the priority of the Columbia police is to move someone other than dealing with a real crime.
Way to spend the tax dollars

SHAME on David Hurt. You dont have to be a trained police dog handler to know that an animal shouldnt be left in the car for 6 hours, without food, water, or bathroom breaks. And SHAME on Chief Skip Hilbrook for the choice to ONLY suspend David Hurt. If a civilian did this, they would be going to jail for a long time. It should be even worse for Hurt as this dog was abandoned by someone he was suppose to trust 100%. SHAME to you all for standing by and not standing up for this wrong. R.I.P Police Dog Turbo

I was sadde ed and shocked by the death of the beautiful police dog. That was a case of extreme animal cruelty. Police officers are to protect animals not abuse them. The punishment this man received certainly did not do justice.

A cruel and hateful death, slow roasted in a police car for hours! Poor faithful dog! And the handler gets a vacation for it! He should at LEAST be fired! Better yet, lock his kids in a hot car till they fry so his sorry a## genes arent passed on! Any officer in that building should be ashamed to wear the same uniform as that discrace to the human race! He obviously didnt think of that poor dog as either partner or family!

I don't live in south Carolina I reside in Kansas but my girlfriend who needs medical attention currently resides in Columbia although not sure the address I asked if there was anything they could do gave her name her moms name and birth dates for both but was met with "sir we can't prove this is not a prank call" and now I'm not sure if my girl friend will wake up in the morning I understand to an extent the reluctance but I wouldn't spend an hour looking up who to contact and how and I wouldn't be in tears if it were a prank the situation is on going and Im praying to here something because in this endeavor the call between her and I dropped so I'm not even sure of her current status so all in all not helpful to me or my girlfriends life

Not really a complaint about the police. But a complaint about the city. Why does this entire city have to come to a halt for an event? Can't get to work on time cant get to a customer on time. Cant get back at a decent hour. Because all of your people shut down roads and city blocks for tourism we barely get. It's a halarious joke and it makes me want to move to Charlotte. Ya know the place with a better enconmy and roads to actually navigate and not puncture a tire. And when the events dont slow down money flow. What a joke

Officer was calm and showed incredible patience. Yea we all hate getting tickets and paying fines but guess what it s effective at deterring illicit behavior. The police dog incident was extremely unfortunate but I believe the chief handled the situation to the best of his ability. Anyway I used to hate police officers but now I wish I had become one. They are everyday heroes, period. They risk their lives for us. They never know what kind of situation they are walking into and that takes incredible courage. So my hats off to you guys. Thank you for keeping Columbia safe and thank you for your sacrifice.

Today I went to the police department to ask for resources or help with my situation I was turned away immediately saying that they cannot force any shelters to open their doors. After I asked can I get a list of shelters I was told to Google the shelters mind you I've already done THiS morning. I proceeded to ask AGAIN or a list of shelters to call. I was given 5 shelters to call written on a college notebook page. Majority of them was for men I am a WOMAN . I asked once I called the shelter and they don't have any openings or are not accepting anyone what do I do??? The officer said I don't know I don't know what to tell you I'm sorry.this is not the type of behavior that I would like to see from the city of Columbia Police department on Washington Street!! E especially when there is a national crisis going on right now I am appalled I am disgusted that the police department on Washington Street with ever considered fixing their mouth to say that I don't know I'm sorry. I'm highly disappointed the city of Columbia should not behavior this way TOWARDS ANYONE!

The Columbia Police Department is a den of wolves ...

The Columbia Police Department is a den of wolves whose singular purpose is to cheat, extort, and bully civilians who are just living their lives out of money. A police force that I have witnessed numerous times sleeping in parking spots or on the side of the road in their cars, they act only when they need to shake folks down and even then its for going 5 over the speed limit or something.

They are in my experience all rude, defensive, lying, glorified elementary school hall monitors except they have guns. They are entitled babies, and clearly have no concern with how their actions effect others. One of them even admitted to me on a job once (I work special events where we use CPD as security) that they don t bust kids on pot offenses but they will confiscate it from them. Regardless on your view about that issue (I personally don t care about what an adult chooses to do with their personal time) that is indicative of a kind of corrupt untouchable attitude that they all carry.

It really makes me wonder how anyone can trust police after all my interactions with the CPD. They are a blight. They are a blemish on our society. If they all suddenly vanished I have no doubt we would all be better off.

If I could give them less than one star, trust me,...

If I could give them less than one star, trust me, I would. I have experienced numerous police departments in my life that handle themselves with professionalism and prestige. Well, the Columbia Police Department is absolutely not one of them. I got into an accident today when someone ran a red light and I hit the passenger side of their car. The police took TWO HOURS to show up, mind you we were TWO blocks away from the headquarters. I even called them multiple times throughout that time period to ask when the unit would show up. Well, to make it better, the dispatcher told me we were on a "list" and they didn't have the resources available to come to us yet. So as we sit there, we see twelve different units drive by and completely ignore us. Then, some elderly gentleman in a Columbia police uniform on a golf cart shows up and asks what the problem is. We tell him the situation and he radios in to get a unit to us. As he waits with us, he tells me that they haven't been busy all day and says "this must be why there are so many hit and runs here. No one wants to right an accident report." The best part comes when the officer finally shows up. He tells me that both me and the driver who ran the red light are equally at fault for the accident. He told me that I was going "too fast for conditions" when I was stopped at a red light and went when the light turned green.

Well, here's to you, Columbia Police Department! You suck! And this is coming from someone who has the highest respect for law enforcement and aspires to become a police officer.

I would give this place 0 stars if I could. The most incompetent police department I've ever seen. They do not care about serving its citizens or about trying to solve a case of armed robbery. I have been trying to get in touch with a detective about my case for months. Even went to the department twice and still have not received a call back.

Quo
Quite frankly, if all you have to do is sit around and run your mouths about the people you call to help you...you probably have it more backwards than anybody, and whatever'S actually coming out of your mouth probably isn't or at least shouldn't be regarded as even intelligent enough to be posted or even acknowledged... Good job,guys...you are the best!!!

I was there today and as soon as I walked in they were nothing but helpful and courteous. They handle my problem with professionalism and efficiency..... After reading other reviews I was sceptical about going but my fear was unfounded. Just thought I'd let everyone know that, so if you need help don't worry about them not doing their job because they were all over it. Thank you City of Columbia police, keep up the good work

I was in a car accident that was witnessed by a CPD officer. While stopped behind another vehicle at a red light, a work van hit the back of my car going 50mph. My car was sandwiched between it and the car infront of me. When the officer asked if I was alright, I asked him to call EMS, and he said "Ain't nothing wrong with you". I had to call EMS for myself after a major accident. Unprofessional and useless doesn't even begin to describe these jerks.

Criminal DAVID HURT and the Police Chief in this joke of a police force need to be accountable for murdering an innocent dog and not being giving any kind of punishment. This police dog was its partner and not to check on it for 6 hours in a hot car is disgusting ! Give the same punishment back to this vile monster - DAVID HURT!

The Columbia Police Department RECORDS Department ...

The Columbia Police Department RECORDS Department is trashed. The only person you can get on the phone is an insolent young man. He is extremely disrespectful and beyond unhelpful. I wish I had gotten his name. We desperately need a copy of our police report from a theft that occurred for our insurance purposes and he is making it truly impossible. He is rude, sarcastic, and completely unprofessional.

I called several times, and they refused to let me file a police report.

I'm a Columbia resident, and my credit card information was stolen... I think while I was using the self-service kiosk at the Assembly Street post office.

My card information was used to make a dummy card (I presume) and it was swiped at a Best Buy in Florence, SC for $110. My credit card company and that Best Buy store told me to call my local police department and file a report.

I was told my the Columbia police department, a few times with attitude, that "Our investigators are NOT going to drive all the way to Florence to get security footage from that store... You have to file with the Florence police dept."

When I'd call the Florence police department, they would read the state law that says the Columbia police dept most certainly has jurisdiction when it comes to credit card fraud, and that they would only have to contact the Florence police dept for the security footage. They told me it's Columbia's job to take this report, not theirs.

So, I keep calling Columbia PD back... More attitude. There is nothing they will do to help me.

So that's it. These bad guys are out there making who knows how many dummy cards with skimmed info. These bad guys have obviously realized that the Columbia PD won't do anything as long as they make sure to steal from Columbia residents, but use the fake cards in other cities around the state.

Good luck, everyone.
