I was in Denver during a Saturday, so I couldn't tour the capitol's inside; however, I'm glad that I was able to go to the 13th step (in front of the building's west side) and snap some pics.

Great educational place! Very detailed history and well maintained. Many interesting things inside of the capital building itself. I recommend the free guided tour to go in detail about the history. Also, try to avoid busy times and school groups. The Senate and House of Representatives chambers were my favorite!! I recommend this place for sure!!!
The building looks nice on the outside but the people who work in the inside really drag the whole thing down, polis especially. He sucks.
Beautiful architecture; however, there was a bunch of campers directly outside of building.
Great free tour of the capitol building. No need to register for a tour weeks in advance.
This capitol building is amazing! It is one of only like 8 in the country with a gold dome! When I called they said they had historical tours or legislative tours of the capitol, each 45 min and you could do both. We didn't think our kids could handle 1 1/2 hrs of tours so we opted to do the self-guided tour. When we got there, we were disappointed that the visitor's brochure didn't tell much about the capitol or have good maps for a self-guided tour (like the Capitol in Ohio does). However, a tour was just starting and I asked which one it was - the guide acted like she never heard of the two tours I was told about over the phone. She said her tour was an informative building tour about what the Capitol is made of (marble, etc). She said it was 45 min but we could leave at any time due to the limited time we had due to parking. The tour was amazing! We learned so many interesting facts and it was a lot of fun! We learned what the capitol was made of, saw the senate and the house, saw old cannon balls on the stairs, paintings of the presidents, etc. Our tour guide did a fabulous job!! And was great with the kids! You can visit the capital for free, the tours are free also but the parking is outrageous! First, there is no parking garage anywhere nearby. The metered parking had yellow bags on the top & reserved so you couldn't park there. We were very fortunate to find a lot across the street which had 2 parking spots left. It still took 10 min to walk to the Capitol and we paid $7 / hr! But it was all definately worth it! So do take the building tour!!!
Great and educational, had an amazing time. They really know how to explain and take your questions well. 10/10 would go again!
Very nice capitol. Enjoyed getting a tour if the interior. The grounds are also nice
We had a really sweet guide. She was very knowledgeable and we had a great time. I was so surprised that the building didn't have that old smell to it and it was well lit. The observation deck is a must see. It was amazing up there. Don't forget the mile high steps as well.
Free! Tour to the top with great view! Worth the venture, and you will explore with or without a tour for awhile. The tours are an hour long, and start on the hour. The tour goes floor by floor and makes it to the top at the end. The top is only accessible by the tour. You are able to access the rest of the building freely.
Awesome place for history great groundskeeping just an amazing place
Seat of the Government of the State of Colorado.
Majestic building in an elevated position compared to the surrounding areas.
Outside it is a monument and cannons of the War of Secession (1861 - 1865).
With the lottery, the gas tax,the cannibas tax,how the hell does Denver Colorado need toll roads, five bucks to get to fort Collins, Colorado hill Billy's need to ask were is all the dope money going!
The Colorado State Capitol building is in the city of Denver.
The building has a gold dome.
You can sign up for an organized tour that takes an hour instead. In the building. At the end of the tour you can go to the roof of the building for a panoramic view of the Capitol area and visit the museum on how to build the building.
Visit and tour are free.
Recommended to shop in one of the nearby streets with luck to park for a fee and with no parking to find in a neat parking lot
recommended
the whole building is just beautiful, but there is construction. I was wanting to stand on the 15th step (above sea level) and was unable to at this time due to fencing all around the building.
Cool historic building. Underwent restoration a few years ago. Looks gorgeous. Must go through TSA like screening to get into the building. Very informative free tour of the building and its history. Take lots of pictures. There is an information desk at the Colfax entrance. Bathrooms are in the basement.
Visiting the State Capitol revealed to me the true extend of democracy in the States. You can literally walk in to any of the meeting rooms and parliamentary spaces to see where the decisions are made.
Beautiful building, especially with the shining gold dome!
Definitely worth a visit
The State Capitol is definitely worth visiting for a couple of hours . Access is free unless you wish to go to the top of the dome which we decided against as we d already walked quite a distance in the heat. It is a beautiful building with lots to see especially the large tapestry depicting a timeline of women through Colorado history. There s also a little cafe in the basement where one can have a drink. I noticed some reviews had comments about being harassed by homeless people in the park outside but we walked through it and , sadly, there were quite a few homeless people about but absolutely nobody bothered us.
The building deserves five stars. It is a very beautiful capitol, well worth walking through. However, if you try to visit a legislator, they refuse to help you for "security" reasons. It is literally a policy not to tell people where legislators' offices are--but of course all the insiders know. I've been in about half the state capitols and nowhere else do they do this. (Many have no metal detectors or x-ray machines, and I credit legislators in those states for that now-unusual courage.)
Unfortunately, we were unable to take the free tour because of the time we went. Nonetheless, it is still a beautiful architectural building to walk. We read the signs and googled things along the way. I recommend getting the pamphlets at the entrance if you're walking it without a guide. There is no parking on the premises but right down the road there are parking meters. They take card.
Beautiful interior with interesting history. I definitely recommend having a visit.
They offer a tour that is about an hour long. There are lots of little facts thrown in unless you take the tour. The best part of the guided tour is going to the dome which overlooks Denver, but that is only accessible for those on the tour.
A good place to learn about the history of Colorado
Take the free tour, guides are super friendly and knowledgable. It's a great way to learn about the history of the building and the area, as well as get up into the dome at the top of the building. The view is fantastic!
It's a must to take your picture on the mile high step. The Capitol offers free tours and the view from the top of the Capitol is great.
Haven't taken the Grand Tour yet, but from an outside perspective, the reflections in the afternoon sun carry away some of the weight and heaviness of the grind. My impressions are warm, mirthful, even cheery. Rallies are right around front...I breathe easier when I tilt my head.
Beautiful and stately building where you also look marble and shiny copper. You can just walk in to the house and senate hall.
Beautiful building - and be sure to look for the step that indicates when you are exactly "one mile above sea level"
Incredible and immersive building in downtown Denver
The tour was very interesting and full of information about the state and capitol. The end of the tour offered great views of Denver!
The truth is that we only took the photo outside and of course on the step where it is just an exact mile above sea level.
I do not know if you can enter, we were in a hurry and we no longer saw lol
Go at sunset and enjoy the beautiful view.
always a really nice place to look at no matter where you are in the city
Not only is the building cool, but so much has happened right in front of it.
Except being harassed and yelled and cussed out by people openly smoking weed and drinking alcohol on grounds and scaring and taunting my shih tzu service dog and thrashing the grounds and being threatened verbally by druggies and drunks- -In capitol ideal's people are warm and friendly and will eagerly help you with any problem you need addressed pertaining to tenant manager problems etc. They are friendly and want to help the average concerns of a private citizen needing help and answers
Nice building, yet there are lots of homeless people lying and loitering around... pretty sad, actually. They must freeze at night! A retail clerk nearby told me there's not enough room for all of them in the local shelters, and that they seem to keep getting pushed south into the city.
Magnificent piece of history offering free, guided, hour long tours M-F 8-5. If you're visiting the area be sure to make time to visit the Capitol.
Didn't get to go in since it was a Sunday but the building and park looks beautiful. It's a place to visit if you're in Denver.
I recommend taking one of the free tours of the building. The tour was very informational, and ends with a beautiful view of downtown from inside of the dome of the building.
Enjoyed a tour here many years ago. Great history. Amazing rotunda and painting inside.
One of the front steps is carved with the words "One Mile Above Sea Level" and the view to the west is amazing, looking at the Rockies on a clear day. I wish I could have toured the Capitol, but the tour times did not match up with my schedule. Reservations are not required for small groups (fewer than 10 people) and historical tours are free, but they are only offered ever hour between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on weekdays.
Superb building! Very nice rooms. Free guided tour.
I loved the tour they gave here. They explained a lot about Colorado and the building. They even brought us to the dome where I had a lot of nice views. When it comes to helping me of what to do, the information they have me want that reliable. They told me about a Money Museum on 16th St and went all the way there just to see that it was temporarily closed. I went back and told them that and they called the Money Museum all to find out that it wasn't reopening until September. I asked them for a good Souvenir Shop and they told me that there was a Souvenir Shop called Everything Colorado on 16th St. I went to 16th St but couldn't find the Everything Colorado store there. I checked Google Maps and it said that the closest Everything Colorado store is 50 miles away.
The interior is very dark and foreboding for a state capitol, which is not a plus. They really need to redo the lighting. It's a beautiful building though, with some pretty stunning stained glass throughout the place.
Great architecture
Don't miss going to the 13th step marking the 1 mile high, thus the name "Mile High City"
I just came to see the one mile marker. Since I couldn't find it, I asked the security staff at the entrance. They were very helpful and welcoming. I ended up going into the building itself. I didn't buy a tour and it was still very enjoyable.
Let's speak openly about how bad police corruption is in Denver especially but all colorado.there sousho not be fellow officers handling internal affairs anymore because after doing research cops in colorado never get convicted.
Acting under color of law is a crime. Fix it.
Colorado's state capital is one of the cooler state capital buildings I have visited. Really great exterior and interior with nice landscape. Everything is really interesting with a bunch of different history all over the building. It is usually open to the public and they do tours throughout the day. If you are in the tour you get to go much higher in the building then just visiting. Cool place!
Go as often as I can. Bring the kids and family and explore. Climb the steps up to the dome and observe the city. Eat lunch in the cafe downstairs
The Colorado state capital building is quite beautiful and worth getting a chance to see in person. My main complaint would that the it is currently under renovations to the outside of the building. Worth taking a visit to see and tour the inside. And make sure to find the step marked "One Mile Above Sea Level". Denver is the Mile High City after all!
Magnificent building and beatiful designs around the park. Very unique and close the lots of attractions
Intentionally reminiscent of the United States Capitol, it was constructed in the 1890s from Colorado white granite, and the distinctive gold dome consists of real gold plate.
#16 on The Best of Denver. The best places and must see venues in the Denver, Colorado Metro area.
Beautiful! Second only to the Texas Capital building. Any history buff must go. And to stand at the very top rotunda and look out to see so far away takes your breath away. To stand there and look out and see what our forefathers saw - vast and open land - beautiful
The grounds and surrounding campus area of this capital are beautiful and laid out very well. City planners put some effort into the design it it shows.
This is a must stop and see as the architecture is grand. If you are staying in downtown Denver I would make the trek over to walk the grounds and view the amazing structure, it's quite a site to see and there are many vantage points that make for great photos.
Great place to visit if youre interested in architecture or history. The rose onyx is beautiful. You'll probably have to pay to park (most meters are $1/hour). You can easily walk through the building in an hour. ok
Beautiful building, inside and out! Free tours are available, or you can explore on your own. You can even go up to the dome, which has a small museum-type setup. Metered parking is available nearby.
We walked from our downtown hotel about 6 PM one evening to see the capitol. The 2 porticos on the sides of the adjacent greenspace were filled with homeless people. The rest of the space was deserted except for a police car parked in the middle of the park. It did not feel welcoming.
Very interesting tour. Knowledgeable tour guides. Climbed the dome for nice views of Denver and mountains.
A mile high half way up the steps. Gorgeous art and architecture
Took a tour, and it really is a beautiful building. Worth it I'd you're nearby.
For this that like to see period architecture, this is a good opportunity for a free visit. The spaces are superb, the gold leaf covered dome glints in the sunshine (300 days a year apparently) and the historic and contemporary artwork is fascinating.
The wife & I had planned to see the capitol in 2013 because it was being renovated , but changed our plans to 2014. To our surprise, it was still being worked on. Don't worry, there is plenty to see here. I found the circular stairs quite unique. We are trying to visit all the capitols before the end, & got a 3fer on this trip, CO., NM. & WY. A couples of hours & you can tick this off your list. There is convenient parking to the east just across the street, that's also good for the Cathedral.
I like to visit state capitols whenever I m in a new state & although the capitol itself is very beautiful and architecturally appealing, I really didn t like being downtown with all the homeless camps around.
Well worth a visit at this magnificent building. The guided tour is very informative and worth your time.
Incredible building and a mandatory stop for visitors. Not too much to do, but worth taking a free walk through.
Beautiful building, I'd be glad to go back and walk around again.
This is a beautiful capital building. The inside was amazing to walk through. Unfortunately there was no tour when we came in last week. It was during the week, so not sure what happened there. But security said we were free to walk the building. Would have been nice to get a history lesson on what we were looking at, but it was still great to see.
The Colorado State Capitol offers a comprehensive free tour of the building. The tour runs about 90 minutes, but you get to see all of the key areas, including the house and senate chambers. The 360 view from the top of the dome provides an incredible long distance view of Denver and the mountains. One star subtracted because the tour guide seemed rather bored with her job, but nonetheless it was a worthwhile visit.
Excellent free tour of a gorgeous building. The highlight of my visit to Denver.
Always a great place to visit for tourists or even if you are a local and want to take some awesome pictures!!! Every time I visit the capital building I always take some pics and of course spin the Pokestops and battle the Gym lol
