This is a great place to head to for your initial introduction to Quito and Ecuador. Backpackers from all over sharing where they've been and what's good. And you can pass it on as you prepare to move on. The staff is super friendly and helpful. A true hostel.
From the outside the first impression is not the best ... But inside is amazing! Attention like at home, a house of 200 years of life! Bed, pillows, hot shower, WiFi ... Luxury!
Pool table, guitars, garden, lovely rooms, hot showers, good receptionists, honestly you should stay here!

My only suggestion would be to improve the WiFi.
We used this hostel as our base in Ecuador for over a month, and it soon felt like a home away from home! For us the nicest hostel in over nine months in latin america! They let us store our bicycles there for several weeks, the staff is super helpful and nice, they do everything to make you feel welcome, the rooms are comfortable, breakfast is good, the garden is a little oasis in the middle of town. Great location to walk everywhere. Would definitely stay here again, highly recommended place!
Well, beautiful and not very expensive. Great team! The room was perfect and amazingly large! The only problem was the lock that did not open even with the key. The staff was very quick to solve this problem;).

Economical and quiet hostel. It contributes with his presence to keep the center active in a difficult area like La Marin. The house is old and the rooms are not great, but they compensate with activities and good treatment.

It is located San Blas neighbourhood, very close to the historic center and Itchimbia park.
We arrived at Colonial House on Calle Olmedo around 3 am, originally scheduled to be in before midnight. Flight landing was delayed due to fog. The taxi driver Colonial House sent for us at the new airport outside of Quito was kind enough to wait for us. The volunteers who live and work at the hostel were great. Tired and cold they let us skip the formalities and took us right to our room to get some sleep and deal with the rest later. The staff was very friendly and helpful throughout our stay and knowledgeable of the area, taxi and bus fares, what to do and how to get around. They kept everything easy going and laid back.
Our first night, we were given a different room, two beds, which had an older and more rustic appeal, with a view of the Quito angel and the courtyard out the bedroom window. The following day we were moved to a private room with one bed, wood floors, with a great view of Quito s famous basilica from our balcony doors. Both rooms were clean and comfortable. While having common areas on each floor is a nice concept, it also results in our only negative comment being that the noise can be significantly loud with concrete walls, preventing sleep until all go to their rooms. Coffee and tea are free all day, however the coffee is instant (somewhat disappointing in a country that produces coffee).
Regarding location, there are two areas of Quito with a concentration of hostels: Mariscol Sucre is geared more for the younger generation looking for nightlife and the club seen, with a more modern architecture. Colonial House is located amongst narrow cobblestone streets of colonial architecture, and walking distance to La Basilica, the charming historical streets of the La Ronda neighborhood, and Plaza de la Independencia.
However we should note that staff, friends, and reviews all warn that the character of Quito changes near sundown, with plenty of robbery stories. The hostel staff advise guests to wait inside for taxis, rather than curbside with luggage. Warnings also include not walking with luggage to the bus and metro terminals, nor being out in the evening with cameras or valuables, and to carry only passport copies not your passport. We had no problems this trip, but everyone we met knew people with a Quito theft story, be it cell phones, cars, money or otherwise. Their stories applied to various locations throughout Quito, not just specific to our location.
The staff are all incredibly welcoming and helpful. The colonial house is 200 years old, a beautiful place that is kept very clean. just make sure you turn on the water slightly in order to turn the hot water heater on. There are breakfast lunch and dinner options available and bananas and coffee for free at any time. I will be returning to the colonial house I had such a great time.
Customer service and directions about the city, contacts for tours ,, with great value for money, fine, very pleasant. Accommodations are regular, especially in winter, the shower does not heat well, it does not have air conditioning.
Most amazing place. I was traveling for months and I couldn't believe I found this place. I stayed in the dorm which has some full beds, and also the room has a private shower and bathroom. I met some other people and it was like having a family every night, watching the big screen Netflix on the big couches, after cooking a dessert or asking them to pop up a big bowl of popcorn. The building is beautiful. It was a needed home for a week for me.
Very nice place, comfortable and clean rooms. It has different spaces to be; You can have two spaces for cooking, in addition to the different enclosed places and the park with hammocks. . They are always available for what is needed, with great cordiality.
Very friendly volunteers at hostel. Spent the first night having a Mexican-themed going away party for a leaving volunteer. Mariachi band & tequila were present, of course. Everyone is incredibly nice, there is Wi-Fi, breakfast is delicious and there are hot showers if you know how to use them.
Nights can be spent in the game room playing pool, in the reading room, in the tv-room, or in one of the hammocks in the garden.

There is no seriousness, "white privilege", to who we were Latin and we wanted to stay there they did not give us the best deal and they surprised us with the payments.

It was Amazing ! . The Hostel is good located from all premier places in town, everything just a few blocks from the Hostel.
All areas are pretty entertained , quite and spacefull to have great moments with other travellers. The staff were really helpful and they know all type of information and advises about Quito and Ecuador. Thank You so much for such a great moments.
Pretty awesome place. 10 minutos to the centro historico. We stayed here for a week because we had a Spanish class in Quito.
The staff helps you with everything you need and is service oriented.
Free coffee(so good)/tea, Billard and kicker, book exchange and cosy places to hang around. The garden and the hammock in which I am laying right now are awesome. Best thing is of course the rabbit in the garden

The breakfast as well as the dinner is very rich and the portions are more than enough.
The staff is super friendly, helpful and always available.
The rooms are nicely furnished and equipped with warm blankets.
You can linger for hours in the garden. (Hammocks, board games, BBQ, cozy get-togethers)
We enjoyed our time at the Colonial House and will always remember it.

Great place to stay. Extremely welcoming. We were given our room early as it was ready which was fantastic following a night bus. Double room with shared bathroom was $20 and we had a lovely room in the garden. Breakfast was $3.50pp which we had both mornings it includes fruit, yoghurt, granola, bread, jam, eggs and coffee.
Staff were all friendly and helpful. The hostel can help you organise tours to all the main sites around including the amazon and Galapagos with good prices.
There is a lovely garden with hammocks and rabbits. There is also a kitchen/ bar area with a pool table and musical instruments. Also a short walk to all attractions in the old town.
Highly recommend.

Good value! We used this hostel as a base of operations in Quito and came back four times within a month. Nice, clean rooms at a reasonable price. Has common rooms with pool table, tv, bar and guest kitchen. Nice garden with hammocks.

Love this place. Have stayed here twice with no problems. Hosts are helpful and not pushy in any way. Always English speaking people around. It is an old building but kept up very well. Good location to historical district and in the middle of Quito. Most bus routes are only a few blocks away. English speaking bars and other hostels very close.
