Taking kids there to skate. Some are professional skaters teaching all kinds of levels. At times there are University hockey games you can watch for free like the Rutgers team and Seton Hall. Public skating is cheap and so are rentals. A five rating g for this place! Enjoy!

I remember when they built this place. At first I thought what a traffic nightmare for Northfield Avenue. But they do a very good job controlling the traffic on most days and the arena is nice, relatively clean, and the rental prices are good.

It's so fun, I went there with my friends and since I never skated before I had a really good time learning how to. I want to go there all the time. Since there's also a zoo behind it, it's so cool cause I love animals. I bet you would have a great time there if it's your first time.

We are visiting NJ and decided to take grandchildren skating at the Richard J. Codey arena at South Mountain on this rainy morning and it was fantastic! I am in my 70s had only learned to skate on a pond as a kid but this ice looked fantastic and the rental skates were comfortable. Still, I had a momentary loss of nerve as I stepped onto the ice. A lovely arena employee/skater named Ann came right over and helped the 6 & 8 year olds out on the ice and gave us all basic pointers. I was also watching an amazing skater skate figures in the center and it turned out to be Olympian skater JoJo Starbuck who also gave us pointers! Today is her last day of classes but I am going to plan a NJ visit next fall specifically to take her class at this terrific arena. What a great asset for the county! And there is good parking right there.

Great ice skating rink. They have really nice group lessons for little kids. The instructors actually make an effort to teach children. The group lessons progress from basic 1, basic 2 and so on. Parking isn't too much of a hassle. It's free.
