Club Retro Review

Honestly, I don't even know why it has so many low reviews. It is my favourite go to club in the city. The only thing I don't like is how dirty the floors get (it's inevitable because of the hyped up crowd). But I wish there was a sitting area for when my feet get so tired in heels! Also, the mixed drinks are never good so I always opt for a premixed like a beer, etc. Otherwise, I would give it five stars. The music is amazing and so is the crowd and staff. Love love love Club Retro!

I attended this venue with some mates, started out fine, however as we were dancing, (I was dancing with a friend) the DJ started yelling at me stating I can't dance with her, we then got in an argument, it was clear that he was on some kind of drugs, or was drunk; either one. Security asked me to leave, I asked "why?" of which there was no response, just some pulling. The security guard gave up and then came back with 5 other guys, the reasoning as to why I had to leave had changed to the age old excuse "you've had too much to drink". I left, all the while the DJ was yelling considerably as though we were to fight, however it was evident that this was not possible. I left with no fuss, will never go back.

Apalling door staff. Went with a large party, everything going OK then one of the bouncers got roid rage and ejected one of the party for a random minor incident (picking up a plastic sign off the floor that another drunk patron unrelated to our party had pulled down). Rest of door staff then proceeded to behave unnecessarily aggressively, physically threatening to eject anyone even asking for an explanation or attempting just to see if they were Ok. Ruined the birthday. Tired and tacky decor, drinks overpriced, toilets disgusting. Won't be back.

When the club was closing and people were being pushed out to leaving my sister realised she had left her bag upstairs while out dancing she had asked could she get her bag but was told no every time and they refused to let you get it leaving u without keys or money to get anywhere! Also completely ignoring you while you repeatedly asked to be able to get your bag or for someone to get it for you! This is disgusting behaviour to leave any young in this situation she has still not received her bag and belonging and they are not replying to her messages even though the message has been viewed! We will be contacting the police to take the matters further! Worst place ever!

Great vibe and great music, bit on the querky side but overall a great place.

Really fun atmosphere and crowd, awesome music!!! Takes you back to your youth. My favorite place to go! My only issue is theres only 3 toilets and more aircons would be great. Otherwise i cannot fault this place

Thanks to Hamish and all the staff at Club Retro for a great 50 th birthday celebration in the function room.Everything went well, staff were extremely helpful and accomodating. All my guests had a wonderful time. The room had a great atmosphere, especially with the 80's style light up coloured dance floor . Highly recommend.

Fun night, but the cocktails were a bit off. They were cheap, but they felt cheap. Of course, if you're going for a retro night to let your inner 80s out, that's not a bad thing.

I do want to complian about the music selection though. Lots of early noughties and late 90s music. And they say "The main level has non-stop retro classics and one hit wonders from the 70 s, 80 s and 90 s pumping out all night long" then it was songs like Teenage Dirtbag, Mr Brightside, (Darude) Sandstorm, Barbie Girl, I Want It That Way.
Not really embracing the retro theme in my opinion. I'm into 80s and late 70s pop and dance.
They played some 80s hits which was good but it was the typical selection.

Venue was fine. Nothing wrong with the staff. Food and drink selection is fine.

Definitely overpriced, was charged $20 but my friend was charged $10 the previous week. They might just change it whenever they please. I asked for a receipt twice but was told they would have to get a manager and it would take over ten mins.

Great songs, pricey drinks but worth it. Awesome atmosphere

The atmosphere and music are always spot on thanks to the staff and security guards who are super friendly. Every time I'm here I have a great time with my friends. Thanks Club Retro!!

Huge dancefloor and brilliant rooftop section. Usually busier later at night on fridays if you like to dance ;)

Their drinks selection is very typical, not a craft beer venue.
Plenty of space but the area seriously needs maintenance.
Great for old-school retro dance music but definitely not the place to catch up with friends.

$20 cover charge, very few people there and the ones that were were mostly blokes. What a rip.

Was hesitant about going here but the music was great and I had a fun night. A lot if fun if your in the mood to dance and get some nostalgia

I wouldn't go here again. $20bucks entry, no hats permitted and a corona is like $12. The atmosphere has died here.There are better clubs/ bars around Melbourne

Afternoons on the rooftop are laid back and the staff upstairs were great. It is also fun dancing to all of the throwbacks downstairs. Great club for a fun-filled, drama free night.

It's not really a place for 20-year-olds, beacuse the night I went here everyone was way older than me. But I had a great time since I like 80's music

I did have a good time here with friends. Only down side is these guys are STRICT on the 10pm cut off time. We arrived at 10.02 on a guest list as part of a large group for a friend's birthday and the girl on the door stiffed us the $40 entry fee for 2 of us for the sake of being 2 mins over. We RAN to make it on time coz our Uber was late and we did ask really politely coz $40 is not cheap and we had only missed it by a few mins but unfortunately, no dice. It felt like a really greedy move and definitely didn't get the night off to a good start.

Cocktails served all night upstairs, good outdoor area for smoking and just hanging out and the people that attend are usually nice and drama free.

A night out with good food, good music and good services.

The music was fabulous with a wide array of 80's and 90's music. Not much selection at the bar, but most of the basics were there.

Spent 30 secs upstairs after paying $20 cover x2..immediately walked back down because of the amount of 18 year olds...asked for our money back and was denied. Absolutely terrible business practice...completely disgusted.

Good for a dance to old school music but very expensive. It's a pay in venue and the drinks are also overpriced which wouldn't be so bad if you didn't have to spend half the night waiting to order.

Not all popular songs, pricey entry and not so lively crowd ..as if they dint know the songs playing either

Love this place. Great set up, great service. D.J really plays to the crowd and knows what they are doing. Bouncers and staff really are switched on and know how to handle a tough crowd. Consistently good, for what it is. Love the trashy disco music on the main floor!

$20 entry fee on a Saturday night which was a bit steep. Venue is OK - older crowd and some great nostalgic beats. Bar service was quick, and the place felt busy but wasn't overcrowded. Ladies bathrooms weren't well maintained. I'd go again, but it wouldn't be my first choice.

Queues took forever. Not great drinks. Music was great. Unfriendly staff. Very drunk guests. Good for a last stop.

When my girl wants a night out dancing this is where we go.... The music is great and the crowd is simply there for a good time.

Was very quiet for a Friday didn't get busy until after midnight. Would be better if the prices were retro.

Gr8 club to hangout for over 30s. It is a good mix of ages and music. Just be warned there is a $20 door charge.

Nothing better than letting the hair down after a big Swans Victory! Beautiful rooftop bar for getting some fresh air after getting sleazy on the D-Floor. Drinks a fair price and the music just takes me back to my Childhood. Will buy this place if it came up for sale.

Attended for a work function, and the catering was nicer that some of the nearby competition. Bar service was very good.

Went on Saturday for a 40th bday party. Had a good night, music was great. Only disappointment was that there was no ouzo available at the bar. One of very few clubs I've been to that doesn't serve it. Drinks were a touch pricey but other than this we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Great classic old school music, its bound to bring back memories and have you singing along.

good atmosphere, good music.. but certainly not worth 25$ entry fee and male to female ratio pretty awkward sometimes, not the friendliest vibe around.

This place has great vibes and great music. Drink specials arent the best though and they end quiet early. Bar staff are friendly and the photographer was great!

A pretty good classy club to hang out. A very nice dance floor with a good old music. There are more two floors where you can sit, relax and have beers. The roof top bar is awesome with some great views.

Had the best time at Retro a couple weeks ago. Awesome music, decent drinks and nice staff. Big plus was the huge, comfortable outdoor area on the rooftop, most clubs these days either don't have a smoking area or it's a makeshift cramped spot in the back, so I was happy to find I could stay there, smoke, have a drink or two early on in the night and still hear the music.

Came here with a couple of friends personally I didn t enjoy the experience music wasn t my taste so that made it pretty bland for me

Dropped in for a few pints on a Wednesday afternoon. Great feel. Friendly staff. Will return at night to see how it goes off on the dance floor.

Good music, but no decent air conditioning so was uncomfortably hot.

Great music! The DJ on the second floor has the best taste in music in Melbourne.
