No stars to these uniformed terrorists. My only positive experiences with them are with their records department...they're very expedient and with the front desk officer...each one I've encountered was friendly and helpful.
WARNING! One of the officers is a serial stalker/rapist, he was mildly disciplined for "bad behavior" c.2007 and is back on the street (Flowers, the ultimate ladies creep, beware). In 2015 their officers went to arrest a non-violent probation violator outside the city limits. They shot the unarmed young father dead as he tried to flee (N. Thomas), please Google it. The SPD is still playing dirty and worming out of any accountability for their misdeed.
I was erroneously arrested on a misdemeanor charge (which was ultimately dropped) and a vicious sheboon deputy at the station forcefully ripped the front of my dress - was no reason for the aggression.
Their new top dog is named L. Defence, he's a dimwitted, choloric turd on a massive power trip. Barney Fife on steroids.
I've was harassed by this city's police department for many years. It all began with Flowers pulling me over for "following too closely" which didn't even earn a ticket...it just marked me as prey.
Now, I try to avoid the city entirely, using the highway and side roads instead. They're insanely corrupted, poorly trained, dollar crazed, crooked, and the most fiscally motivated dept East of the Mississippi. Smyrna is a great place to live... IF you're a shady, influential bureaucrat who has the PD in your back pocket.
Maybe when their coke-snorting, whiskey-snob, gambling obsessed Mayor Bacon has snorted his last line and finished his last family street fight, he will see what a hot mess this police force has become.
On a positive note if you're within city limits, officers respond very quickly to a call, less than 10 minutes. The best officers of the department have all left...either retired or transferred. Seems that they've had enough of the ineptitude and misdeeds here.
Stay away from Smyrna if you value freedom and tranquility because their cops are determined to rob you of it.

I got pulled over last month by office A Martin of the Smyrna police department. He is an aggressive very rude and obnoxious. When he pulled me over he yelled from behind my car to put my hands on the wheel
I turned to my son and was like what did I do as I have never had that happen at a stop I really thought he had the wrong person
As he came up to my car he reinforced keeping my hands on the wheel and loud and rude
He asked for my license which I couldn't find before he yelled to put my hands on the wheel , I was sure I grabbed it from my bed that morning but was so nervous I said I must of left it on my bed (I had just changed phone cases and usually keep it in the back)
Needless to say when I got to work it was in my back pocket :/
At first he wouldn't tell me why I was pulled over
After asking if I had weapons etc and who's car I was in which is mine but registered to my husband and making me repeat my name 3 times
he said I ran the stop sign
I said no I didn't
He proceeded to just be rude like he had been since he stepped out his car
Once he came back he gave me two tickets as I tried to read them he told me he needed them back I said I am aware of that but I want to read what I sign he said signing is not guilt I would get my own copy I again told him I want to read what I am signing but again he wanted them back
After I got to work and could actually read my ticket it said failure to fully stop at stop sign and the other ticket for not having license on me
I now have to pay a lawyer to request the tapes
If I actually failed to fully stop so tell me that explain that , tell me I need to do better and actually stop but don't keep saying I ran through it like I never even at least paused, although I think I did stop it's not like me to run or even roll through a stop. If I am wrong I will pay the ticket , but his behavior is in no way ok
Just rude and loud from the start
Not a good way to make someone feel comfortable when nervous seeing blue lights pulling you over
He has been in my other job before so I really think it was personal because he was a jerk when he was in there too
I called to complain on him and the guy who called me back didn't seem to give a dam as well as said he's a big guy that's why he's loud and he does all his stops like that
Ummmm my husband is a big guy as well and not loud
Said well after we look into it do you want a call back it will be a few days I said yes and it's almost been a month and of course nothing
It's not ok for cops to act like a jerk esp from the start
It's sad for the few good cops that these jerk cops give them a bad rep
I now have to get someone higher up to look into this behavior

Went here to get an alcohol permit for my job and I regret even entering the premises. The staff is beyond rude, uninterested and passively belligerent through daunting stares and snappy demanding tones. I have had nothing but the utmost respect for the police and the selflessness they demonstrate protecting the streets and our citizens, but after today, I truly understand why some people can not stand to even look an officer in the eye. I understand that it is a tough and stressful job and it's not all smiles and roses but not everyone is a criminal and they have no right to talk to people as if they are dirt. Only come here at your absolute LAST resort especially if you are ethnically diverse because treatment does vary, no matter how well mannered you are. I hope no other polite citizen has to deal with the unacceptable service given at this establishment.

Very racist. The cops will make things up to give you a citation for and will impound your car without even asking for documentation. Had a terrible experience at this place and will be filing a civil case against them.

Racists. You don't have to give ID if no crime was committed or suspected of being committed. Officer Brooks should be fired. The Sgt. should join him. Obstruction for not providing ID, and Brooks couldn't/wouldn't give a crime. Disgraceful.

About two weeks ago I called to report an incident in the city of Smyrna, two white officers, and two African-Americans arrived, one of the officers of the black race was speaking with an arrogance that should not be allowed , Not even let us explain what happened, the truth even gives fear to call the police again !!

I called the number listed for non emergency and got no answer so I called the regular emergency line. Instead of accepting that I tried the non emergency line first, the dispatcher questioned me several times on why I didn't call the non emergency line. Even went as far as saying " Well others are calling that line and it's working just fine.". Truth is they didn't pick up that line and didn't expect me to call the regular line and say that I didn't get an answer because the regular line is recorded. At least the police responded quickly.

We went to report a suspicious business card that was left at the porch of our apartment. The people who left it seemed to be eyeing our apartment and we re worried we may get robbed or something. We waited 30 mins or more at the lobby after filing a report over the telephone at their station. Then this young officer who supposed to take care of it didnt even take it seriously and said just hold on to the card in case something happens!! So were suppose to wait until something happens before they would do something about it?? What a joke. I wish he had taken it more seriously. He is in that position for a reason. Oh well. Its easy to be a cop but its not easy to be a good one.

Smyrna Police Department has excellent officers. This police department will listen to your concerns and take the appropriate action. I feel safe in Smyrna knowing there are officers that really care about the community I live in. Words can't express my gratitude and appreciation for all they do for this city. Thanks just isn't enough.

The only thing I can say is that racism is real in Cobb County and it is beginning to rear its ugly face. We saw what happened with Cobb County Police and now I'm seeing with Smyrna PD. If you can help it, call the Sheriff's Office to handle situations.

I was with my sister when her neighbor came down violently banging and kicking on the door as he challenged, cursed and threatened her to bang on the f'ing ceiling again. Which she hadn't done. She had just arrived with me. The officer came, heard what we had to say. Went upstairs and came back absolutely dismissive of her concerns. He brushed off this man's violent behavior as routine apartment life. Essentially suggesting that she did in fact bang on the ceiling and should expect noise in an apartment. He did not bother to check with other neighbors to see if it was them. My sister had only complained to the leasing office about late night/early AM pounding on the floor which I have heard myself. But she would never initiate confrontation or called the police if the neighbor hadn't escalated.

The officer said he could not arrest him (mentioned no citation, ticket or anything either) because there was no clear threat and no damage...even though his foot print was clearly visible and she had a witness (me). Even though the officer was polite, he minimized this hostile and scary situation. The neighbor's actions in itself was threatening and took neighborly discord to another level. It's ridiculous that vandalism or bloodshed has to occur for something to be done about loose cannons like the upstairs neighbor. Tonight and every night she will have to take extra precautions to ensure the door is super secured because the officer failed to acknowledge the neighbors violent intentions.

I'm so disappointed in the actions this department did. I just watched this video and it broke my heart those men had to go through. They have approached my boyfriend one night with guns drawn as he was unloading his truck at the Lexus dealership. This isn't the first time they have came to the dealership. They sat in the driveway before. I was scared for my life. I didn't know what to except.

While visiting from Texas, we stopped at Varner's Tavern with our family for a quick lunch. We noticed a police officer having lunch at a booth across from us. We didn't think anything of it but when we went to pay our bill we were informed by the waiter that the policeman had paid half of our tab! This random act of kindness really touched our hearts and reminded us that there still is good in this crazy world. We are looking forward to the opportunity to pay it forward!

I took my daughter today to see her boyfriend and the lady behind the glass with short hair was VERY rude to my daughter because she left her ID in my car. She told her if the woman that was sitting out there waiting to see someone was called back before I could get her ID in there then she would have to come back tomorrow. I did get her ID to her and the lady was still waiting to go back. As I handed the ID to my daughter she YELLED at my daughter it was to late and slammed the window shut several times. So crying my daughter asked ma'am why are you talking to me like this and she yelled again several times saying "bye" slamming the window several more times. As we left the woman was STILL sitting out in the lobby waiting for her visitation. I have never in my life seen someone in public safety so rude and unprofessional.

Watch out for Officer A. Martin. He is a new, gun...

Watch out for Officer A. Martin. He is a new, gung-ho officer who appears to want to prove himself in his new job. I was issued a ticket for failing to comply with the Move Over law after Officer Martin illegally drove down the wrong side of the street (towards me and others) in order to get in the median lane behind another officer who had a car pulled over. After being startled by his actions, I did not move over to an adjacent lane and was pulled over by Officer Martin. PLEASE NOTE: The move over law requires that you pull over OR slow down if the lane adjacent to you is not free and clear.

As many of us do, my initial plan was to just pay the ticket out of frustration. However, after learning that the fine was $656, I chose to tell my side of the story and fight the ticket in court. When I went to court there were several other individuals who had been ticketed by Officer Martin for the same offense, proving that this is a clear pattern for him. The judge allowed the video to be entered into court as part of evidence and the actions I contended about Officer Martin was clear as day. I want to point out that when I cross examined Officer Martin, he repeatedly said that he properly positioned himself behind the officer's car, which is a blatant lie. In fact, before my trial began, he viewed the video himself to recall the incident because months had passed. Had the video not been allowed, he would have continued to deny cutting over into oncoming traffic (going southbound on the northbound side)

After hearing my arguments and viewing the video, the judge still found me guilty of not complying with the law. However, due to the mitigating factors I presented about Officer Martin's actions the judge reduced the fine from $656 to $150. I am glad that I chose to fight the ticket and although I don't completely agree that the adjacent lane was free and clear for me to move into, I'm happy about the outcome. I believe the judge's assessment was fair overall. I just want to warn everyone to be aware of the Move Over law because it's an easy way to be ticketed in Georgia and the fine is hefty. While I understand the significance of the law, I do believe a warning is warranted in some instances.

I also want to mention that not all officers are like this so let me be clear that I am speaking specifically about the actions of gung-ho Officer Martin regarding this incident and the other ones I heard while in court. Another officer even shook his head when speaking to my husband outside of court after realizing our complaint was about Officer Martin. He was not at all surprised by Officer Martin's actions and assured my husband that not all officers are like that. While my experiences with other officers in other jurisdictions haven't always been pleasant, they haven't all been bad so I can certainly agree to this as I'm sure some of you can as well. Unfortunately, new, gung-ho officers like Officer Martin have no empathy and will use this law to ticket as many unsuspecting citizens as possible while making a name for himself on the job. Please go online and review the law so that he doesn't get you next. Apparently, it's all he has to do with his day.

Be safe out there!

I'd give 0 's if I could.

I'd give 0 's if I could.
He needs to be retrained or fired. Preferably fired so he can't get another job at another police station and conduct himself in the same fashion and manner. Comes up and tries to bully people like a regular Thug Like a gang member would do to somebody. He's a disgrace to your Police Department. Taking pictures in public is not a crime and it doesn't justify having to identify yourself because you're taking pictures. This kind of behavior is atrocious and I'm disappointed in your Police Department having people work on it like him. #Blueisis

I am so very very happy that I chose Jonquil Smyrna to live. After one month here, it is unbelievable to me that every single person I have met has left me astonished with their kindness, happy faces with huge smiles and the mention of racism seems to be some distasteful word from long ago.

I was extremely impressed with Officer Haygood when he was summoned to make a welfare check at my apt by a friend who knew I wasn't doing well after a move from Florida an losing my home to hurricane Irma.

At first I doubted he was the police at my door in the wee hours. But once I
let him in, I discovered a kind and very thoughtful man who offered to take some things out of my car on one very cold night. He saw I was fine, but worn out from the entire experience. We had a wonderful chat and he offered me some assistance in getting settled in his off time. No question he is one of the outstanding people in this community
who is working hard to make Smyrna
a a better place and hopefully making it one of those "ten safest or best places to live in America" on the internet.

I am no newbie to Georgia. I lived and worked 30 years in Dunwoody, Roswell and Cobb County before retiring in Florida for 7 years. So for those of you who contend the police here are abrasive or unfair, I say spend just one week in their shoes because I have seen real hate and crime in that place. How many of you would have the courage to walk up to a car driving erratically or on the ptoperty where you got a call for violence. EVERY TIME these officers get a call, they have no idea what they will face and even in the best of situations, things can go south very quickly.

You folks that have watched too many you tubes about how to stand up to the law need to get a grip on reality. We are living in dangerous times and you should thank the police for their service.
No one likes to get a ticket but that is the price we pay for a safe society. If you dont like the way the law works here, get out of your shell and go to a 3rd world country where you settle with a "non offense" by giving the police all the money in your pocket right on the the spot so he can give his sergeant
his share of the take every week. You don't have any idea what a hostile cop is until you have been to the places I have seen. These people don't decide they want to ne an officer because they love their job.....it is because their family has the right connections and enough money to buy the job.

Following an officers instructions is not that hard if you are innocent. The only reason someone can't put their hands on the wheel or show their license is to prove in their simple minds they are more powerful than the law. When I read most of these one star reviews what went through my mind was "thank God this jerk isnt My neighbor because I have low tolerance for ignorance.

And thank you again Officer Haygood for your service. You are the best!

Update: 8/10/18 Cobb Community Transit Director of Safety: Quanda Littles reviewed the bus camera footage has acknowledged that the bus driver and they at CobbLinc are at fault. They have acknowledged to Geico through their admittance of responsibility. I will see how the Smyrna Police Department handles blatant incompetence and blatant disregard for Smyrnas' citizens by Ofc. J. Lawrence. Ofc. J. Lawrence clearly needs additional training, and closer supervision.

I encountered Ofc. J. Lawrence on 8/9/18 after calling the police when a Cobblinc bus bike rack bumped the rental car I was driving, and damaged it. This is viewed by another driver on the roadway, who will be visible in the video footage from the bus. Ofc. J. Lawrence tells me after getting off the bus, that the driver didn't know he hit you until you got out. But three passengers in the back, say you jumped over at the last minute. Ofc. J. Lawrence is so naive as not to consider that the passengers may not want their regular bus driver to get in trouble. He gives me a citation for Improper Lane Change. He never looked at the damage to the back of the car I was driving in comparison to the bus bike rack. The dents line up with the bus rack, which means I was in possession of the lane, stopped at the red light. I have requested Cobblinc Bus Footage, and Footage from the camera on the pole at the corner of Cumberland Blvd. & Spring Rd., through the Open Records Request Process. I will use that footage to resolve the insurance claim, citation, and show that Ofc. J. Lawrence showed no investigative prowess, no basic reasoning, or common sense while on scene. He sided with a local government worker, because he is a local government worker. When in fact he should be deploying sound reasoning, and judgement...which he lacks, and which I will post online to show the public. When an Officer fails to do his job with diligence and care in any situation, and that is known, and can be shown the trust and respect for law enforcement officers continues to decline!

My family and I have owed property in Smyrna for 17 years and never have we experienced a landlord tenant issue like the one I experienced a few days ago. Basically, a tenant can move out, relinquish the key then call the police on you for trespassing because they lied to the police and allowed an unapproved subtenant to squat in the place until they found a place to move. The subtenant has the same last name but no relation to the evicted tenant.
I show up to do maintenance to the place because it's on sale and I get ambushed by two officers from Smyrna PD with loud aggressive demands without hearing the matter out. They asked me to even leave the street as if the rights of con artist tenants are more important than the tax paying homeowners. I walked across the street to apologize to my neighbor for uneccessary police presence and the misunderstanding.
No good deed goes unpunished, for these were friends of the family on hard times, supposed to be a 60 day situation turn into broken promises, lies, 9 months and now a Police Case. Thanks Smyrna PD for your great rush to judgement and unneighborly treatment.
