Way better than the Oakland police department. OPD wouldn't even answer the phone when I called. But Public Works promptly answered my question.

Terrible customer service. Nobody answers the phone or returns messages left. Nobody seems to do their job in this department. Calling the main line gets you to someone who immediately hangs up. It took me 6 months to get the sidewalk inspector to talk to me. I had to escalate two levels. Now he is once again not answering his phone. Pathetic. The Executive Director, Jason Mitchell, has a posted phone number that goes to a local head start program, and the posted email address is not his.

I am writing to express my sincere satisfaction and gratitude for the outstanding work by the team from the Oakland Public Works, Sewer Maintenance Division.

I was faced with a sewer back-up issue on Friday, February 28. After some failed attempts to solve the problem over the weekend, I called Public Works to report the problem on Monday morning. I was pleasantly surprised to find my issue was dispatched with haste. The gentleman who took my call was very patient and eager to be helpful.

My complaint was given to two outstanding workers: Mark Dennis & Delmus Fields. They were at my place of business immediately and took the time to understand my issues. They reported their findings to their supervisor, J.R. Nicks, and in no time my sewer issues were being quickly & efficiently repaired.

Having a business without proper facilities for the patrons is a big problem. But, thanks to everyone who came to my aid, we were able to carry on business as usual with very little downtime.

Dennis Bradley and his crew are top notch professionals. He assessed a serious storm drain clog on the hillside behind my house and came back this morning to clean it out. He made recommendations to preserve the drains integrity without minimizing the flow of water. I can't thank him enough for his hard work and ideas. I was scared last night that I might lose the hill and my house and today I have peace of mind because of what Dennis and his crew did for me. These guys are truly committed to the best practices that they were trained to perform. Thank you!

I want to thank the people at the public works department in Oakland for addressing my issue. We had a very dangerous tree in front of our house and I thought it would take 6 months before they came out to deal with it, but they took care of it within 30 days of my initial report and exceeded my expectations in how they dealt with it. Thank you to everyone who works there it can be a tough job and I want you to know you are appreciated.
