Brilliant Bookshop. Maybe one good thing that will come of this lock down is that I will think more carefully about where I spend my money. I wanted a particular book but did not want to use Amazon - previously I would have. I called City Books and ordered and the book arrived a week or two later, yes it was a longer delivery time than Amazon but worth it. I will continue to order from City Books and as many indies as possible. Small changes make a big difference.

If you've not popped in to City Books and books are your thing then please pop in there.. It's has an old fashion feel, staff are helpful, friendly, they seem to know when to leave you to it, I don't just go for books their cards section is fantastic... I spend a good few hours in there just enjoying all they have on offer.

Great small independent bookshop. The owner was knowledgeable and friendly. They have author's events as well. I bought a book of Helen Dunmoor's poems and she told me a story of her when she came to one of these events.

Bookshops such as these have become scarce these days. A great many books on a great many subjects. Quiet and friendly, it is a joy to browse here. It is well laid out on two levels, the second one being the larger. It gives off the feeling that you are in a book store that is just a little special. Definitely a place for those who love the printed word.

One of only two independent bookshops in Brighton, City Books is not only valuable because of its rarity in today's ever-increasing dominance of online markets, but has a character and charm that one would only find in a small, indie book store. The staff are lovely and very knowledgeable when it comes to book recommendations. What's more is that the shop boasts a fairly impressive selection of books - considering its compact layout - from all genres. Go there!

Great bookshop and really fantastically helpful staff. Their recommendations to me always hit the mark. If they don't have the book they will get in (often) the very next day. There is really no need to use Amazon!

A rarity these days in that it's an independent bookshop, but this one does it really well. Has a great selection of books and stationery and really helpful and friendly staff too. Give Amazon a miss and go here instead.

My son and I came in to buy a book for me. we found ourselves laughing with the owner and felt like we'd met an old friend.

She gave him a book hoping he'd not be insulted. Far from it, he was overwhelmed and gave a her a big hug.

This is a bookshop with a HUGE heart please visit.

Great bookshop. I only found it a few weeks ago but didn't have time to stop and explore it so came back today. It is about 5 minutes walk from the centre of Brighton towards Hove and definitely worth heading there. It is full of a wide selection of books of various genres and a huge selection of signed books. My first visit and I bought a bunch of books and saw many more I may well come back and buy. It is great to see a thriving independent bookstore. If you are in Brighton and thinking of visiting a national chain, just check out City Books first and support local businesses. There aren't enough bookshops around nowadays so it is great to support those that are...

One day this might be the last indie book shop in the U.K.

A superb store that, like the Tardis, seems so much bigger on the inside.

Staff are knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. I often struggle to buy books for my daughter (high reading age, but young) and their suggestions have always delighted.

The store is well laid out, with new books on your left as you enter. They frequently stock signed editions. The variety of stock is staggering, especially downstairs in the kids / huge non fiction area.

City Books also hosts author events.

Local Legend.

I saw a book in the shop which I thought I had but upon returning home found that I didn't so I asked them to post it to me. P&P was very reasonable and it arrived very well packed and wrapped. The shop itself is probably the best bookshop in Norwich (if not in Norfolk or the area), especially for second hand titles. They have a fantastic local and military history and transport department. It's the first place we visit whenever we are in Norwich!

Lovely shopping experience. Such a chilled out shop. They ordered a book in for me which arrived within 4 days.

Nice staff.

Edit: I noticed someone else had the same experience as me! Yes the book would have been a few quid cheaper online and I wouldn't have had to go out, but it doesn't sit right that we pump money to Jeff B, just so he can dive into his riches Scrooge McDuck style!

Support the independent stores. Earn yourself a karma brownie point.

A superb bookshop with very knowledgeable staff. They are always eager to help and will try to order in anything that cannot be found on their shelves. Ordering is also swift, so you will usually be able to get what you want from them very quickly.

Gorgeous little bookshop with a real treasure trove / grotto feel to it. Nice nook areas to chill and peruse your books and a great selection of kids stiff. Friendly and helpful staff and prices for all budgets. Would definitely recommend.

Small independent book shop where nothing is too much trouble for their helpful and knowledgeable staff. It has a surprisingly wide range of books; children's books part of the downstairs collection. I particularly like the diversity of their non-fiction range.
