Such a hidden gem of a company, so many talented and inspiring dancers!
City Ballet have the best resident choreographers and artistic directors. The company have the highest quality professional dance artists. All the performances are extremely beautiful, exquiste and unforgettable experiences. Spreckel Theater is the perfect venue for the performances and the fantastic lighting, live orchestra, elegant costumes making the performance more memorable event.
Absolutely beautiful. San Diego is so lucky to have such a professional company as City Ballet. Ariana was exquisite. The Balachine work was exquisite and well executed. A feast for the heart, mind and soul
It s a little bit of a drive for us to get to but this is my favorite Southern California ballet company. I also love that they do summer camps and a family series!
City Ballet is a magnificent Ballet company that performs contemporary, traditional and Balanchine performances at the beautiful Spreckels Theater in downtown San Diego. The quality of the performances is of the highest caliber and rivals some of the best ballet companies in California. Go see them. You will not be disappointed.
Best dance company without a doubt in Southern California
City Ballet was a wonderful experience, and it made for a lovely holiday. Thank you.
I recently saw the City Ballet of San Diego in their production of the Nutcracker. I must say, I was extremely impressed. I'm a balletomane and have seen many productions all around the world. City Ballet was just as good as some of the major companies I've seen. For a company with a limited budget, their sets and costumes were magnificent, and they even had a live orchestra! What impressed me the most was the quality of the dancers. There were many that could easily be in world renowned ballet companies. They were technically very sound, and I was completely enraptured by their stage presence. Anyone who loves ballet in San Diego NEEDS to check out this local gem
Even though there were some technical and artistic layers between performers, overall I cannot resist to give my all thumbs. Especially, pad de deux in Act2 was keeping me wow till the end of the show (nutcracker). Maybe My wife and I will be a regular audience.
Beautiful company! Versatile dancers who are able to showcase artistry and technique in both classical and contemporary styles. Sets and costumes add to the stage magic. Music typically provided by a fantastic live orchestra.
I have been attending performances of City Ballet for about 8 years and am amazed at the professionalism, integrity and beauty of these dancers and their performances. City Ballet of San Diego is one of very few companies in California entrusted to perform ballets by George Balanchine. If you want to see some really amazing dancing, on March 4, 5 and 6 they will be performing three Balanchine ballets at the Spreckels Theatre. This is not to be missed as you will not see these dances performed by any other San Diego company
City is our favorite ballet company, and the recent Carmina Burana production was one of the finest projects this world class company has undertaken. The choreography was fresh, yet traditional, the story line was creative, the dancing was -- as always -- top notch, and the sound, with the large choir spread across the box seats at the front of the theater, was astounding. The City Ballet orchestra gets better every year.
The artistic quality of the performances are very high. The dancers are fabulous and the choreography, sets and costumes are first rate. I also love the elegant Sprekles Theater in downtown San Diego
City Ballet has never let me down, always a very professional and beautiful job. 5 stars.
Fantastic company. Was blown away by their performances. So much talent in this company with so much promise to continue to grow and expand the art presence in the San Diego community.
We've had the opportunity to see many of the finest companies in the world perform. Most have budgets and numbers of dancers that make City Ballet pale by comparison. Despite the size and budget constraints of City Ballet, they continue to stage productions of a high quality that rival companies that are much larger and better funded. It is noteworthy that the Balanchine Trust considers the facility and dedication of the dancers and artistic direction of City Ballet of sufficient quality to allow this company to stage many of Balanchine's works. Companies that the Trust allows to perform Balanchine's works are carefully vetted. Steven and Betsy Wistrich, City Ballet's Artistic Directors, bring stellar international careers to the table as they set ballets on their company. Elizabeth Wistrich is a talented choreographer in her own right. Her works add depth and dimension to programs that include traditional classics. Seeing this company perform at the Spreckles Theater, their venue of residence, is a must. Supporting this company with your treasure and talent will ensure they continue to flourish. Over the years, it has been our privilege to do so.
What a fantastic company! I lived in NYC for years and attended NYCity ballet performances often. The City Ballet of SD is as good or better in their stagings of Balanchine's ballets. In addition, they have two wonderful choreographers, Elizabeth Wistrich and Geoff Gonzales, also a wonderful dancer. Ariana Gonzales continues to dazzle as prima ballerina. Thank you City Ballet!
Saw "The Nutcracker Ballet"; it was amazing. Loved the live orchestra accompaniment, it elevates the performance experience. They also have a great special effects curtain that gives the viewers a sneak peek at what is happening inside Clara's home as the visitors are en route to the party. It's a small venue with an excellent seating set-up. I had orchestra seats but from what I could see every seat looks great. It was money well spent and I am excited to see future productions from this company.
Fantastic experience! Very professional company with good mix of classic and contemporary programs.
I have been at this school since i was 7 i am currently in level four. This is a fantastic school to learn the art of dance however there seems to be some favoritism and rudeness between some dancers that the management does not help fix. Overall is a wonderful school.
One of the best ballets I have ever seen. Dancing and music were in perfect sync. Excellent
Daughter going here for 4 years now. Tried a few others. Nothing compares
