I feel sorry for those who don't know about the C.U.B. When I first moved to Chicago 15 years ago, I bought a new condo. The builder simply cancelled all utilities instead of transferring them to my name.
It was a very cold winter. I had no heat. Peoples Gas put me on THEIR schedule, weeks into the future. Needless to say, me and my newly constructed home would've reached freezing temps by the time they would've arrived.
I bought an $80 space heater and slept with it in the bathroom to not freeze to death.
Welcome to Chicago!
I was desperate for heat. I happened upon this group and within hours I had heat.
I don't know how they do what they do, but they are saints.

When moving into my new condo, a neighbor had switched the electric lines to receive a lower bill. When attempting multiple times to get ComEd to fix the situation they refused and told me I owed them thousands of dollars in back pay. Each person I spoke to at ComEd had an attitude with me about it and they would not even come and investigate. I called the Citizens Utility Board and they took immediate care of the situation. ComEd was here within a week and fixed the switched lines and adjusted my bill accordingly. If you're having a problem with your utility company, I highly recommend using the C.U.B's service.

The Citizens Utility Board, also known as CUB, is a very helpful organization. They will answer all of your questions and give you the information you need. They also have Spanish speaking staff members if you need.
