I have been faithfully paying my rent on time to this company for quite a while. I got into a situation where one of my roommates gave 30 days, said they had paid their portion of rent for the full 30, and then left. I thought all was hunky-dory until I received a 72 hour warning to pay rent. Surprise, they had not paid. Chinook, even after I explained my situation lucidly and respectfully, refused to take my check, saying I needed a money order! This is the latest in a long string of complaints about this company and their rigid inflexibility. Also, the rudeness of the women in the main office is second to none. They will cowardly hide behind the polices that they make. I do not recommend this company, stay AWAY!

***DO NOT USE*** they will take your money, rented for 5yrs and they gave me a no cause eviction for no reason. I am 72 and never been late on rent.

Bad company with bad customer service. Every one is nice at first and then every thing changes.

Chinook Properties has managed an apartment complex and single family rentals for seven years and during that time I have come to appreciate what they do for me. They have kept my properties fully rented, mostly with long term renters, and have maintained them very well. I am immediately notified of any problems or repairs and when I authorize a repair it is scheduled and done quickly. The staff communicates well and gives good advice when I need to make a decision. I haven't met all my renters over these years but the ones I have spoken with have never expressed anything but satisfaction and since their good will is important I consider that a success. I can recommend Chinook Properties to anyone seeking good management for their property or to anyone looking for housing for themselves and their family. Ed Gressett

Yeah, it would be nice if they bothered returning the several calls and emails that people leave. Tried contacting them though both these means and now the house I was really interested in is no longer available. Thanks for nothing.

Absolutely the worst property management company I have ever encountered. I would not recommend doing business with this company as either the renter or the owner. I wish we had read reviews about the company before we became tenants. If you find yourself renting a property from this company before you read this review, protect yourself. Take lots of photos, send emails and save them, take absolutely every opportunity to document things because you may very well need it in order to get your deposit back. If you are reading this before you are renting a property from this company, than good for you. Do not lock yourself into a situation with them. Who has time to fight so hard to get a deposit back anyway?

This is a terrible company, I would never recommend them to anyone. I would suggest doing your due diligence as a renter and as a homeowner to protect your money and investment. The entire time that my husband and I were their tenants we were simultaneously having our house rented out and managed through a different company, in a different state. It gave us a great ability to see all of their many flaws in comparison with how our property was being managed. They wrongly kept our deposit $$, (we took them to court and retrieved it) they are a nightmare at scheduling maintenance work of any kind and try their best to get out of it and they are plain rude, absolutely the worst customer service. Save yourself the stress and don't do business with Chinook Properties.

On the plus side - Repairs were done promptly. One plumber even came out on Christmas day when we had a pipe break. We got the majority of our deposit refunded to us when we moved out.

On the negative side - Repairs were done as cheaply as possible or not at all if they could be avoided, which caused more frequent need for repairs. The pipe that broke over Christmas had been "repaired" multiple times before it finally broke. You can expect regular rent increases. Our last increase was $95. We also had yearly inspections, inside and out.

Overall, we were treated fairly and they took care of the basic needs of the property.

The women at the front desk could use an adjustment in attitude and customer service. We asked about co-signers, and they said "we'll run your applications, and let you know if you'll need a co-signer." After several weeks I call to see how our application were coming, and a woman answers telling me that the house we applied for had been rented. She pulls our files, looks over them, and tells me that because we have no rental history we'll BOTH need a co-signer, no matter what property we apply for! I explain that it would have saved a lot of time had they told us this from the very start!

Edit: A reply a year later! Seems about right. And full of the same attitude we experienced at your office. Now that's how you reply to a review! We explicitly mentioned that we were first time renters when we dropped off our application, and that was the answer we received from your office, which is why I felt compelled to write this review. Instead of trying to place blame, you could have simply apologized -- not for my 'difficulty navigating the application process' but for the poor customer service experience. Adjusted to a one star review.

If I could give zero stars I would. I went to apply and I'm a student who is living with two other people who have full time jobs. First of all they were apparently too busy to answer my questions, because the lady at the front desk kept telling me I should read all the guidelines for applying while the office was empty and it was 9am. Next they said I had to be able to afford 1/3 of three times the rent, so the whole rent. They do not accept financial aid as income and won't accept that my fiance who is one of the roommates is paying for most of my rent. They said I needed a cosigner, even though I have a perfect record of 4 years renting from different places. I informed them the paper said the owner didn't allow cosigners and asked them what I could do. They said I couldn't live there. On top of all that they were very rude and kept saying things that were not matching what the paper said in which I corrected them. Also while in there the two girls were talking trash about other attendants being very unprofessional and rude. Worst experience with any company ever.

Really hard to get a hold of someone on the phone. When you do get a hold of someone they are quite curt. They also ask for a 60 day move out notice which can be difficult to accommodate considering most rentals aren t available but 1 month from when you need to move in.

Soo incredibly unprofessional. This place needs to be closed it makes a bad name for Eugene Springfield area. We applied for a place online after calling several times over the course of 2 weekes...trying to communicate with a human at the office to no avail we didn't want to lose a opportunity on a house so applied. We have blemishes like everyone else we were calling to see if our blemishes could be worked with, you know explanation with proof of our circimstaces. Paid 40 per person 3 apps go in. They deny us. Yet no one calls us no one talks to us ever I have court paperwork to verify our situation and not one human talks to us? I have a co signer and a gaunter and no one talks to us. They stole our 120 dollars denied us 2 hours after paying. I had to drive down to Eugene and go to the office because 3 weeks no one picked up a call or called back...oh boy what a JOKE these women where so RUDE so rude she was pissed she had to do her job like pissed she had to get to go to another computer to look something up. The phone just rang and rang while I was there. This sloth of a staff couldn't be bothered snapping there "RULES" to me about phone calls and emails. I guess I got saved from doing business with POS place. I reported them to BBB seems I'm not the only one. I will be going farther in complaints to the appropriate bureau when I complete my move. This company is out to get app fees and turn overs they aren't in it for the community. It doesn't hurt to have customer service even if you couldn't help your freaking attitude makes you a douche!
Ps I went with a better rated property management try fullhouse or northwoods so much nicer to work with at last they do their job and aren't thieves.

Spent 4.5 years in this house and my parents spend the 4.5 years prior to me. Both of us were evicted with 60 day no notices right at the 4.5 year mark. We were not squeaky wheel tenants, rarely requested service and ALWAYS paid rent on time, it's almost as if they don't want to keep good tenants. Both times the property was re-listed for more money instead of just raising the rent while we were still there (they just re-listed the property for $100 more than we were paying... ALL of that work to move out, find a new place, clean this place all for $100. We spent WAY more getting out than if they just would have asked us to pay more). This company is a joke, only gave 1/2 of my deposit back with very vague explanations as to why they took so much of the deposit. We spent a whole week making the house spotless (better than it was prior to moving in) and when I reached out for a more in-depth breakdown of what they spent the deposit money fixing, they went silent. DO NOT RENT from these people, they WILL uproot you in 4-5 years.

I have the highest regard for Chinook Properties. Greg and Keith are excellent are both excellent managers. Bethany Calhoun also is excellent with her job duties as well. After being forced to relocate from Eugene to the Portland Metro area in 2007 and after trying six months to sell our home with no offers, we made the decision to chose to rent our custom home. After reviewing and speaking with several property management firms, we decided that Chinook Properties would be able to meet our needs and provide the best service to our tenants as well. No one expected the relentless real estate crash over the last seven years. But Chinook continued to keep our home in prime condition, with maintenance, occasional inspections and the best client interviewing and background checks. One tenant actually was in the home for almost four years! Their monthly accounting system has just recently improved as well so you can now get everything on-line. ACH deposits direct into our bank account. Always very knowledgable, courteous, friendly and happy staff as well. We were kept up on any issues or repairs too. 5 stars and Two thumbs up!! House just sold in April!! Thanks again!!

I moved out of a property managed by Chinook on July. 31, 2010. I worked very hard to clean the house out before I left to ensure a quick re-rental and deposit.
During my 3 year tenancy, Chinook was very helpful and I was happy to rent from them. However, 30 days after move-out, I received the Security Deposit Refund Accounting sheet and I was appalled. There were outrageous charges, no details as to work done and it now said I owed them money. I couldn't believe it. I worked so hard to clean the house before I left; mind you, there were stains on the carpets ( nothing a good professional cleaning couldn't get out), some holes on walls; nothing out of normal wear and tear. And now I have a bill saying there were over $600 is damages and repairs.
I called them immediately to find out what exactly was done on the house. I spoke to Bethany and told her the bill was vague and non-descriptive.

I asked her "how was I to know that any of this work has been done?" and to provide me with itemized deductions of all costs and replacements that were made to the home. I told her that I know companies rip people off of their deposits and silence befell her. She said she will send me any info she can to prove the costs. I will wait and see.

I had my girlfriend pop into the office to check out a key so she could view a property we were interested in. Turns out I had made a mistake and the property was still occupied, which I'd have known if I'd more thoroughly read the original listing. Oops, my mistake.

However, the woman in the office told her that if we submitted an application and were approved, we could set up a viewing. This seems like a pretty clear red flag, seeing as the application fee is non-refundable and only valid for 6 months according to their application guidelines. Thats a pretty sketchy business practice for a company that claims to not rent sight unseen, and would certainly have been sufficient grounds for me to not rent from them, but probably not sufficient grounds for me to take time out of my day to review my experience on a public forum.

But then the woman in the office took it upon herself to casually, without any prompting, remind my young-looking, college graduate girlfriend that they didn't allow co-signers for that property. On the surface, that sort of patronizing behavior is extremely disrespectful and has no place in a professional setting. However, given that we were looking to potentially rent a property from them, I don't feel comfortable paying someone a non-refundable application fee when I cannot be certain their screening process isn't as agist as their office staff presented itself.

Chinook Properties has been my property manager for about eight years now; they are great! They are responsive, attentive to my tenants as well as me - the owner. It is important that my tenants are well treated -- for oh so many reasons. Most of the time they have handled my property I was livling overseas - and they were great great great. They have kept my place rented through difficult times in Eugene, and I highly recommend them. Highly.

I've had two properties manged by Chinook Properties since 2004 and I couldn't be happier. I'm always treated great by all the staff and the owners are hands-on with me when they need to and I am very satisfied with all their choices. thank you Chinook!

I have had nothing but pleasant experiences with Chinook! Anytime I need something fixed they are prompt. If I call they are kind and a pleasure to speak with. Winter and Chris have been the 2 so far I have had the pleasure to interact with. Thank you Chinook for renting to my family and always have a cheerful attitude.

Our initial experience renting with Chinook was alright, they got us into the place we wanted in a timely manner. The property was poorly maintained (i.e. Half of the lights dont function, the yard had been an obvious homeless camp, walls and floors hadn't been properly cleaned or maintained, and the fence was rotting.) But we are easy tenants, we never complained and always paid our rent on time. My 2 star review stems from the fact that their operations make it seem as though they do not want to KEEP tenants. After 2 years, we wanted to move into a different Chinook property because the current one we are in is in a heavy transient area and we are constantly dealing with people leaving needles in our yard, breaking into our vehicles, and stealing our outdoor belongings on top of the fact that the foundation is starting to sink. When we asked how to go about that process they stated their policy would require us to have a 2 week period where we would not have a place to stay, we would have to be moved out of our current home and wait for paperwork to process before we could be in a new unit. How does that make any sense?

I have never had to deal with a worse property man...

I have never had to deal with a worse property management company as a tenant than Chinook properties. Every single maintenance request that I submitted took at least 2 weeks to be addressed. The office staff is incredibly rude and treats tenants like they are horrible people for renting. Upon moving out they completely scammed me on the security deposit, charging me to replace screens with holes when I noted on my move-in paperwork that all of the screens had holes already. They charged me for cleaning carpets that were stained when I moved in as well. Their excuse was that they did not receive my move-in paperwork from the original company that I signed the lease with. I have considered taking them to small claims court over the charges however that is more of a headache than its worth. I chose to write a negative review to help expose them for their unlawful practices. I will never rent a property from Chinook properties again. I hope this review prevents others from being taken advantage of.

My family and I have been renting from through Chinook for about a year and a half. I have not once had a negative experience. Staff is kind and friendly. Any and all repairs have been done in a quick and timely manner, other than when our fence fell over (which they had to wait for the landlord to approve the repair). I was nervous about renting from Chinook after reading the reviews, but we have been completely satisfied, LOVE our home and have no plans of moving.

Update: We have happily lived in our home for 6 year now. Chinook has been kind, polite, and quick (as possible) to take care of issues that arise. To be honest, we were nervous when we first rented from Chinook based on reviews... But it's been a joy. We love our home, our property manager, and have no plans to move because we completely satisfied. I think it's often those that are unhappy that take the time to write a review.
Pay your rent on time, take pride in your home, follow your lease, and keep up on maitance.... And I'm sure your expirence will be positive as well.

We rented from chinook property for 2 nearly 3 yrs. The staff was polite and friendly. At the time I was a stay at home mom homeschooling my kids. My husband was the only one working. They were polite in working with us throughout the application process. A month in to renting my husband lost his job and they were patient with us as he worked to find a new job. They were quick to respond to our maintenance requests. As is expected each adult and any on over 18 always has to fill out their own application and pay the processing fees. This is standard and the same no matter where you rent.

As with all landlord companies they have some properties they own and other properties they manage for the owners. The property we rented was managed but not owned by chinook. And so we had to wait for the owners to respond to the landlord's request to be allowed to fix the problems we asked to be fixed. Fortunately the owner was a wonderful lady. Now our house was still under repairs when we moved in, but that was because the landlord was trying to get the house ready for us on our short time frame that we needed to move. And they scheduled times for them to finish the repairs they were doing after we had moved in. I had service pets for ky kids with autism, adhd, and other medical issues. They were great in helping me know what I needed to get from the doctors for our rental approval for our pets. They were great. We wished we had of found chinook Property Management when we first moved to eugene instead of Emeralds.

My daughter and her 4 roommates rented a townhouse from this property for two years when they just moved out a huge part of their deposit was kept saying it s the cost of repairs????! When there was absolutely no damage other then a little painting which shows in their own photos which I m not sure how to share here! The house was returned absolutely clean as well. They have ripped off these young adults who just graduated and we are filling a formal complain as well! Shame on chinook management for ripping off bunch of young adults who just graduated and would need the money! Horrible management stay away from this business!

These people are slumlords of the worst kind. They raised the rent on the house my son rents in Eugene, BUT THEY HAVEN'T MADE REPAIRS and it's in such bad shape they are going to tear it down!

I had my 30 day notice put in before having a move in date. I called Chinook in the last week I had to look for a home and asked if the property was available and verified I'd be first in line. I applied and got a response back in an hour.

After it was all said and done (I had all of my information gathered to save time) they were able to help me find a home on short notice and that is a rare accommodation. I've had nothing short of a professional experience with this company.

I was approved after applying for a home with 6 weeks after the posting. When I finally did get approved they told me I had to put down the $1200 deposit on th home immediately to take it off the listing. I asked for the move in date as I had already waited so long they said, after taking my money mind you that it would be at least another 3 weeks before I could move in to the home! My lease with my other home expired when I was waiting for the approval for this one so I had nowhere to go and they refused to give me a solid date. When I decided to decline the offer for the home when I was lucky enough to get an approval with immediate move in with another company. They refused to give me back the $1200 on put down to take off the listing (which they never did take off)! They were all very rude and did not have any regard what so ever for my time and they stole my money!!! You are scamming thieving horrible people and I hope you all burn in hell for what you put me through as someone simply trying to rent a home.

Chinook did not address a single issue with the rental I lived in. Our water heater would randomly vent hot water into the garage for no particular reason and nothing was done. The disposal and over sink light switches stopped working and they never fixed it. But on the third or fourth request, they did raise our rent. A friend was just evicted for reporting a leaking roof.

The housing market is very tough in Eugene. I applied at seven other property management companies in Eugene trying to find a home. Out of all of those, Chinook were the only ones that worked well with me and responded to my phone calls and emails within minutes. I can't thank them enough for getting my Son and I into a beautiful home. You should bring all the ladies flowers, like I did, for being so helpful.

I would like to know how to get your application f...

I would like to know how to get your application fee back from this horrible company. They encourage people to submit an application (and application fee), saying that it's the only way to get to the top of the list even if you haven't even seen the property yet. They also require that each person 18 and older submit their own applications (and pay fees). They then refuse to refund your application fee if someone else gets the property or you withdraw your application. Basically, there are stealing people's money every month by lining up a bunch of applications and pocketing all the fees. I can guarantee the property owners are not getting a cent of this money, yet they have to pay Chinook a portion of the rent each month for "managing" their property. I was interested in a listing they had that was supposed to be available at the beginning of the month but wasn't even available to view until one week prior. Why list a property that can't even be viewed until weeks - or a month - later? It's so they can collect application fees!

Thankfully I have found a property being managed by a legitimate company that operates above board. They actually refund application fees.

My son and his fiance and two children just received a 30 day no cause eviction after roughly 5 months in a house , causing them to have to find another place ,not to mention this happened the very next month after a service animal was allowed . So I would imagine that they will also lose their deposit for cleaning . Which is not easy to come up with in one months time . The notice came hours after rent was paid for may rent. Kind of scandalous if you ask me. But for a college town this is the norm ,as they can probably get more rent from a student. I feel no-cause evictions should have to give a 60 day notice to better accommodate a proper relocation. Since it's a no-cause the property management should garentee a rental reference for another land lord and not be rude once the paperwork was delivered.

They do not answer emails or calls. They don t like you going in to discuss anything with them. They overcharged us after we moved out, said they would remove the charges, have not removed them (4 months later), and have not contacted us back despite MANY attempts to contact them.

My wife & I have been clients of Chinnok Property Management since 2006. Chinook has consistently provided accurate and timely information on our Eugene rental house. Over the years we have had concerns about tenants, repairs, or financial statements, and all of these concerns have been quickly addressed in a very professional manner. We would like to especially compliment the office manger, Bethany Calhoon. She has usually been the point person for handling our concerns, and she has often worked overtime to expeditiously deal with issues. She has been exceptionally responsive to our concerns.

Unlike virtually all the other comments here ( based a one-time experience) as a tenant, I have suffered with Chinnook's piss-poor service and callous office staff for nearly SIX YEARS. (my out-of-town homeowner, finally citing Chinnook's "hands deep in her pockets" ) at last had enough and dumped them, earlier this week. My comments now address the most recent, but alas, typical, interaction with Chinnook, as a renter having had an urgent repair need. (plugged drain preventing use of my kitchen sink.) I first reported the problem ATTN: their maintenance person, Bethany, on a Thursday, through the maintenance portal on their website, as per their request, rather than by phoning in. I asked the matter be attended to Thurs afternoon (using their key, as I'd not be in) or Friday AM- when I would be at home. NO ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OR RESPONSE. I Called the office mid day on Friday, noting the upcoming weekend, and my urgency. NO ACKNOWLEDGMENT OR RESPONSE. On Saturday I called the "after hours" or urgent maintenence ("Jackie" - a volatile personality - ) and made the mistake of noting I'd already reported the problem as opposed to pretending it was a new issue. Upon hearing that the problem had ALREADY BEEN reported, Jackie REFUSED to do anything saying I'd be "contacted on Monday." (not done) ON Tuesday (5 days after first reporting the problem) I got an email from Chinoook advising me they were no longer handling this account! NO REFERENCE was made to the repair need. I'm 77 years old and I hope the reader would not wish THEIR grandpa (or anyone else) having to carry dirty dishes to the bathtub to wash - for up to FIVE DAYS!
In the interests of my time, and space here, I don't detail any of the prior, maddeningly similar problems of NON RESPONSE and SLOW SERVICE, particularly on urgent needs. Here's the way it works at Chinnook: the office/maintenance staff are rude and non-communcative; don't follow through. When I've gotten pissed off enough to directly reach one of the two owners, I get sincere sounding apologies. But after awhile, Apologies "don't cut it!" The bottom line? THESE PEOPLE DON'T CARE! If I could report these people in a way to demand MORE ACCOUNTABLITY than just via a post like this, I would.
Chinnook's got a lot of properties, so they'll get business anyway, despite poor reviews, but if you value your blood pressure and emotional wellness once yo've made that rental commitment; Don't buy in now, then get frustrated whenever you have a maintenence need: take YOUR business - elsewhere!
PS:This local business does not deserve even the minimum one star. I'd give a "minus one" rating here, if I could!

Made it all the way through the application process, was told we were first in line for a place then instead of them spending the extra time to stay late they told us to go check out the house on our own with the current tenant. Then after two days of trying to get ahold of Leanne, she finally emailed me asking how she can help with some of my concerns. I asked about the bad ratings and reviews and what her company is doing to fix these issues. Well its been two days now with no response. This company does not care about you! They're just looking to collect.

We have used Chinook since 2005 to manage several properties. I was impressed with how responsive they are in resolving any issue that arises and their concern to provide a fast and fair solution for both renter and owner. We have had many long term tenants and no complaints. We want to provide a good experience to our renter and Greg, Keith and their staff have helped to do that. I would highly recommend them.

I will mirror what many others have said about poor experiences dealing with management. I communicated with a woman named Abbigail who was not only unhelpful, but discourteous. She was not willing to work with me in any capacity to allow me to place a deposit on a property before viewing. As I am writing a thesis in Atlanta before moving to Eugene, the lack of flexibility and transparency in this policy was not appreciated.

They are incompetent and plain old mean. I should say I got my full deposit back from a previous rental, so the text to fallow isn't about being swindled. for example I spent 2 hours in their office trying to get a condition report to them, which was way more of a challenge then it ought to be and while there I over heard some of the most poisonous, judgmental talk from the staff about their clients. I couldn't discourage using their service more. they are difficult, mean and expect you to be grateful, when they are getting a sizable portion of the home owners revenue, your hard earned dollar.

My wife and I looked into renting a property from here, but they count couples applications separately and don't take the families income into consideration. They want each person over 18 to prove they can cover the costs on their own, even though a married couple will be renting. Very disappointed in how their staff handled the discussion and saw clearly the "curt" responses repeated in the reviews here.

As a property owner, my greatest concern is this: Tenants should be treated with fairness and with respect. Their problems should be resolved promptly and properly.

Tenants are my customers. And as every good businessperson knows, it's important to keep customers happy.

Chinook Properties has taken care of my tenants/customers since 2002. Greg, Keith, and their staff do a great job. Many of my properties have long-term tenants, which is a testament to the service that Chinook provides them.

I've owned properties in the Eugene/Springfield area since 1973. In those 42 years I've dealt with several local management companies. Most were okay; a couple were terrible. When a management company is terrible--and even when it's merely okay--a property owner hears directly from tenants. (It's not difficult for a tenant to find the name and contact information of the property owner.) In earlier years I've received my share of angry complaints about managers' service, but since Chinook assumed management I've received only positive comments from tenants.

Unfortunately, contented tenants generally don't post reviews.

By far one of the most rude and unproffessional companies I have dealt with to date and that says a lot considering I have been trying to relocate to Eugene since March!

To recap my experience, I applied for a property and filled out every question, one of which was my past three years reidency history. I have lived in the same place since 2006, so yup I have a 10 year history. I don't live with family nor do I rent from family or friends, it is through a property manager .

I am on a set income, financial aid, child support. Clearly, I am moving up there so I am not working yet but will be once I get there and have an income coming in.

I detailed all this out on my application.

I get an email back from someone using bold and increased font telling me my "app was incomplete" and that I "should of read their guidelines". Then proceeds to cite and I take directly from the email: "3 years of verifiable rental history non friends, family or dorms"

Clearly reading is not a strong point for them but being unproffessional is and a 10 year GOOD history is an issue because I do not apartment bounce and have ONLY 1 for 10 years.

The email then proceeded to tell me they do not accept financial aid or child support. Exact words " Proof of income (examples of items we accept are listed on our website) we do not accept financial aid, student loans or child support"

Wow! as long as they get their rent and it is not illegal why act a fool and discriminate? Then to further highlight the professionalism or should I say lack thereof the last senetnce is small normal letters it states and I quote "We do currently have 3 applications in line for this property."

All I can say is RENTER beware this company is unprofessional with prospective tenants I can only imagine how they treat tenants.

Worst most unprofessional company I have ever work...

Worst most unprofessional company I have ever worked with. Took them over a year to fix a rotting fence. Never called me back in a timely manner about this. My house was broken into by a crazy stalking ex boyfriend thats a felon and I needed my locks changed so my things and I were safe. They never called me back or changed the locks. I was in the hospital and communicated with them about this and they still tried to evict me and take me to court. All of my things were out by the end of the month at midnight not even qualifying for eviction. I always paid my rent on time and was a good tenant. They had a lot of nerve to do all these horrible things to me. I was left to pay a lot of money in court costs because in the hospital and didnt come to court hearing. I told them all my stuff was out and key was dropped off. Truly evil people. NEVER RENT FROM THEM!!! Find a respected professional company instead you wont regret it.

After more then 2 and a half years as tenants, with no complaints against us except one about the grass being too long Chinook issued us a 60 day no cause termination. All so they could re-rent the house to someone else for $10 dollars more a month. Yes, ten dollars. Thanks to Chinook the savings we had for our 7 year old daughters birthday in disneyland is being spent moving into another house. I hope the extra 120 dollars a year was worth making us break a birthday promise to our daughter. Since she doesn't get to make the memories we had hoped for I will be sure she knows who is responsible for taking them away. We will never use this property management company and I strongly urge others to take their business elsewhere. We need to remember that this is a business that relies on customers to continue to operate. If they have no customers willing to put up with their mistreatment and dirty business practices then maybe they will change or be forced out of business.

Chinook treated us fairly. They returned emails and answered the phone when I called. I rented a house from them for a year without problems. They returned most of our deposit and treated us with respect.

I am a senior citizen on social security. I have a job as well. I submitted my application and $40 and got a response that my social security could not be counted as income because "I cannot consider the screenshot you submitted for your SSI as verifiable income as it does not indicate the duration you will receive the funds, therefore we would also require the cosigner for income not meeting or exceeding 3x the monthly rent." I asked for clarification and got no response. I posted a review here, and the owner saw it and contacted me and apologized for the mistake, saying they usually require the benefits letter. I still don't understand the logic, as the original refusal was about the "duration" of how long I would get Social Security, which just about everyone in the U.S. knows never stops until you die. The owner gave me back my deposit.

I rented from them for three years. They were very easy to communicate with: fast responses on text and email.

Anytime there was something wrong (like an outlet not working, problem with heating, muddy driveway, light fixture malfunction, stuck garbage disposal) they were very quick to get the problem taken care of EVERY TIME.

The home I stay is beautiful and well taken care of.

Chinook was easy about adding people/removing people from lease. Always clear and professional communication and never made any sneaky changes to lease.

I hope to rent from them again in the future - best landlords any of my roommate's and I have ever had.

Leianne has gone above and beyond her job helping me get into a place. I wanted to make sure that she got a positive review because no one writes positive things about people only negative. She is a very kind person be nice to her she is just doing her job.

Chinook property management, does not clean there houses before they put them on the market. We got the key from there office and went to look at the house, the carpets were molded, the bath tub had soap scum from the last couple that lived there. When we got back they said they would clean the carpet but not replace it or let us replace the nasty molded carpet . "Slumlord" the carpets have not been replaced since 1970

Five stars! I was an "accidental landlord" after losing my job in Eugene during the recession. I relocated out of state and rented out my house until it could be sold.

Chinook had excellent vendors handle repairs at very competitive rates. Their staff kindly addressed my numerous inquiries and were patient with my ignorance. When my property finally sold they coordinated needed repairs with vigilance and efficiency.

The monthly charge was cheaper than therapy -- I could let them have "eyes on" my property which reduced my stress level tremendously.

Thank you, Chinook, for a positive experience despite my difficult personal economic circumstances.

I have had zero problems with Chinook, and I rented from them for about 2.5 years. They are friendly when you stop by the office, speedy in maintenance requests, and fair financially. I m not sure what could be improved in this housing transaction, and I suspect that those who leave negative reviews have simply not followed the clearly defined rules they agreed to follow when signing their leases.

I called to view a property, I m from 2 hours away, and I was told that I had to apply to the property before they would schedule a viewing. The person on the phone was very rude and refused to let me speak to the manager, claimed they were all in meetings. I was also told, that they don t accept pets, even though I told her my sons dog is a service dog, registered and all. That is against the law.

This is not how you run a business and get renters.

We came to Eugene to view a house through a different company and it was an AWFUL experience. On a whim we decided to stop by Chinook Properties and I am SO glad we did. The ladies in the office were so friendly, professional and helpful. It was truly the BEST experience in meeting with a property management company. I am beyond excited that we will be our property managers.

We hired Chinook Properties to manage our home, when we needed to move to a different location. They had the property leased for a year at full price within 6 days. They maintained a positive, cordial relationship with the renters over the last year. They maintained the property well, took care of any concerns we had, handled the finances professionally and timely, and were completely responsive any time we had questions. Every person we dealt with on their staff was professional, friendly, and courteous. I deal with rental properties for a living and didn't want to do this on my own property. I would gladly recommend Chinook Properties to anyone looking for a competent, professional property management firm.

Chinook has managed a number of properties for us for 10 years. We're very pleased with their service -- careful, responsive and professional. The fact that our tenants tend to stay for long times indicates that they are happy too.

FLEAS FLEAS FLEAS! HOMEOWNERS STAY AWAY! RENTERS STAY AWAY!

We moved into the house over the summer and shortly after that all of us became covered in flea bites. They didn't believe us and refused to pay for it for an extended period of time. Finally, they got some guy over there and he destroyed are place with chemicals; it smelled for days afterwards. After having no idea where the flea's came from we ended up talking to the previous renters and they said the same thing happened to them! Apparently, it came from the homeowners dog! Chinook obviously knew this when we contacted them, but didn't tell us and tried to play it off like it was our fault. On top of this, I got our security deposit back at the end of the year and they had charged us for the extermination!

On top of this, they came and fixed out sink which had not hot water, and it broke again a week later. No hot water in kitchen sink for most of the time we lived there. Also, most of the lights went out in all the rooms throughout the time we lived there. It was pretty annoying having to call them every couple of weeks to fix lights unless we want to pay for it ourselves. Oh and our house got robbed and they didn't do anything about it. Lost $1000s of dollars worth of stuff. They didn't worry about collecting our keys at the end of the lease, so someone could easily do the same to the next tenant.

Overall, just a horrible horrible horrible company.

STAY AWAY! HOMEOWNERS DON'T USE THIS SERVICE! RENTERS STAY AWAY!

I didn't have an experience with Chinook Propertie...

I didn't have an experience with Chinook Properties because I did my homework and read their reviews. My husband and I purchased a rental home a few months ago and had so many calls we thought maybe we should go through a property management company. I was Impressed with Pioneer Management reviews. As it turned out we lucked out and rented it to the first couple that looked at it. Back to Chinook, our son was renting a house from them with no real problems until the his lease was coming up for renewal. They assured him it would be renewed and he didn't want to move again. Well it wasn't renewed, they said the owner wanted him out. Well the owner lived in another state. According to his neighbor who is friends with her that was not the case. Our rental house had been rented by then. Then the reality of their reviews came to light. They kept our son's entire deposit, $1,500.00. Claiming dog urine on the carpet padding. How could they detect dog urine on the padding and not the carpet without tearing it out. According to a neighbor the carpet was not replaced. Plus this dog is huge and her urine would have been a flood! I know there is a shortage of affordable rental homes in Eugene/Springfield from the number of inquiries we had on our rental home. Something like 35 within 3 days! So my suggestion if you have to rent from Chinook kiss your deposit goodbye the minute you give it to them. Lawsuit in the making. Bring it Chinook. Read your reviews. The only ones that like you are the homeowners because they have no clue how much you are stealing from them. You are dishonest, disgusting and a disgrace to us who might want to hire a management company.

So, I read all of these reviews prior to ever doing business with chinook property management. I was nervous because there are a ton of bad reviews! My family and I are moving from Utah to Eugene and have found a great home through Chinook.

Here's how it went down:
We applied online late at night. I made sure to submit every document that was required. First thing the following morning, our credit reports were pulled. We were then contacted very quickly and informed that we were second in line for the property. Seven days later we were contacted again letting us know that the people who were first in line did not complete the application process within seven days, and we were now first in line for the property. We were asked to submit a variety of documents, which I did in a timely manner. Because we live out of state, we waited for the application to be totally 100% approved before heading up for a showing. The gentleman who gave us the showing, Sam, was very polite and professional. We did note that the listing stated there were two bathrooms, when there were in fact three. We were delighted about this, but probably would've been really unhappy if there had been less bathrooms instead of more. That same morning we went and took a deposit to the Chinook office. Again, everyone was polite and professional. We move into our new Oregon home at the beginning of July and feel very good about working with Chinook.

My impression is that these folks are quite busy managing properties. Most correspondence will be done via email. Leianne is thorough and to the point. Sometimes I think people misconstrue a "no nonsense" attitude as unfriendliness. She has answered all my questions extremely quickly and without "fluff", and she was very nice in person. It also seems very clear to me that they have a lot of guidelines regarding the application process. So as long as you are following the very clear instructions that they have laid out, there will be no problem. Don't call them asking if they got your application. When you do call their offices, the voicemail message is very clear about this. Probably they just can't deal with floods of phone calls when they have other tenants and properties to deal with. If you are first in line for a property you will know immediately and you will have a certain amount of time to follow through.

I guess I understand how somebody could have a bad experience working with a property management company, again, because of all the rules and requirements. The people in the office have to work under these rules just like tenants do. So be understanding. If there is something that goes wrong with your application or something else negative happens, their hands might be tied as to what they could do and it's not their fault. Hopefully if that were the case, Chinook would at least provide some empathy and apologies that it didn't work out. I really don't know because everything has gone so smoothly in our situation. In my own work experience, I have found that a little customer service does go a long way, even if it is just to smooth out a situation that is gone badly. So it sounds like for some people reviewing, this would've done the trick.

So that's my opinion. I plan to maintain updates of my experience because I worry that this place is getting a bad rep undeservedly. And if you're reading this because you're moving to Eugene, we will see you there its of the greatest places on earth!!! At least....we hope so!

Hmmmm

I have had nothing but good experiences with this ...

I have had nothing but good experiences with this company after 2 + years of renting one of their properties! Everyone is professional yet friendly! After having gone through some maintenance issues which is beyond all of our control, I have received immediate response to every email and call. Even on the weekend, they dispatched maintenance within 2 hours! After dealing with other local property management companies, I am very thankful to have decided to go with Chinook Properties! The best in my opinion!

The worst customer service. They keep homes listed even if they are not available, so that you apply and pay the application fee! I inquired about three different homes that were on their website, and all of them already had tenants moving in, but they told me to apply anyway and pay just in case the tenants defaulted on their deposits. Right, like I'm going to pay $60 in fees to stand in line for a house that has people moving in? Very dishonest.

I rented from Chinook Properties for over 6 years and would still be renting from them if the owner of the house I was living in didn't decide he wanted to sell the place. My experience with the owners and staff at Chinook was always positive. If ever there was a problem or a issue that came up it was solved with in 24hrs. I would highly recommend Chinook Properties to any one who is looking for a place to rent or if you are home owner looking for some one to manage your property they are top notch in my book.

Low class. Charge $20.00 fees for online payment, I'm out of town and was never informed of this on any of my calls. So it was either this or a $50.00 late fee. If they have somebody come mow my lawn and charge 50 bucks while I'm gone I will not be paying that and someone's going to have a bad day hearing from me. So stoked this is my last month with them after half a year with a broken laundry drainer that made it so we had to use buckets and poor it into the slow draining sink.
