Our History
Charles Wells Brewery was founded in 1876 by Charles Wells himself. He started brewing beer in his backyard before moving into a small brewery in Bedfordshire, England. Over the years, the company grew steadily as it gained popularity among locals who appreciated its high-quality beers.
In 2006 we acquired McEwan's Beer Company which gave us access to some of Scotland's most iconic brands including McEwan's Export and Younger's Tartan Special.
Today we have expanded our operations beyond just brewing beer to include pubs and hotels across the UK under our new name "Wells & Co." We continue to be committed to producing high-quality beers while also providing exceptional customer service at all of our locations.
Our Beers
At Charles Wells Brewery we take pride in producing some of the finest beers available today. Our flagship brand is Bombardier which is brewed using traditional methods with only the finest ingredients including English hops from Kent. This gives Bombardier its unique taste that has made it one of Britain’s favourite premium ales.
We also produce other popular brands such as Eagle IPA which is an award-winning India Pale Ale with a refreshing citrus flavour; Banana Bread Beer which has become famous for its unique banana aroma; Young’s Bitter which is an easy-drinking ale perfect for any occasion; Courage Directors Bitter - another classic British ale with rich malty flavours balanced by hop bitterness; McEwan’s Export - Scotland’s favourite beer since 1856 known for its full-bodied flavour profile; Younger’s Tartan Special - A Scottish classic since 1885 known for being smooth yet strong at 5% ABV.
All of our beers are brewed using traditional methods combined with modern technology ensuring consistent quality every time you enjoy one of our brews!
Our Pubs
We operate over two hundred pubs across England where you can enjoy great food and drink while socializing with friends or family members. Each pub offers something different depending on your preferences whether it be live music events or quiz nights there will always be something going on at one of our locations!
Our hotels
We also operate several hotels throughout England where you can stay overnight after enjoying some delicious food or drinks at one of our pubs! Our hotels offer comfortable rooms equipped with all necessary amenities such as free Wi-Fi access so you can stay connected during your stay!
