The space is bright and pleasant. It's not particularly crowded even during peak hours. They have three squat racks. It costs $100 per month. I've had no issues starting and stopping my membership as needed.

Chalk is a great local gym clean, on the higher end style-wise, and always friendly personal attention by staff (special shoutout to Ryan S. whose smiles and words have always been appreciated!). I have been a member for about 2 years and unfortunately have to cancel my membership due to moving about an hour away. If I could take the gym with me, I would! Michael is great and quick via email to pause memberships at any time. In the gym world, who does that!? If you're local in the Williamsburg/Greenpoint/Bushwick area and looking for a step up from your average chain gym but want to stay away from the snooty Equinox's of the world (btw, speaking from experience for the Williamsburg location at least, there's nothing for them to be snooty about), this is your place!

Be aware you must email chalk gym within 48 hours for cancellation or you'll be charged for the next month. You also must wait for a reply before the membership is actually cancelled and you can't cancel your membership over the phone.

If you're looking for a gym in the area, start here. The place is clean, professionally managed, and has everything you need. Staff is great and the people that work out here aren't overtly bro.

It gets a bit crowded after work but that's to be expected. I recommend the AM workout myself.

Rude customer service manager (Jack), great clean-up staff, lots of good machines and weights, plenty of classes in the back. the sauna could use some sanding of the old, stained wood. Loud music too often. People who hang out there trend on the unfriendly, douchy side. The male physical trainers seems to be a bit aggro and unfriendly, but the women trainers are quite friendly and sweet. Funny thing is this place was used in Broad City as the gym that Abbi worked at, poking fun at the lame pretense of the quasi-fictional version of an NYC gym.

I was a member at Chalk FOR 2 YEARS and also at Retrofitness and Equinox in Williamsburg at the same time because I love different classes.
Just moved to Miami but had to evacuate because of Hurricane Irma. I had cancelled my membership 10 days before so I came back to explain my situation and ask if I could do a yoga class. Sunday night IS LOW TRAFFIC at that gym. Really needed a workout so bad after days on the road from Miami to Nyc. I would never have expected them to treat me the way they did.
Jack the front desk guy gave me an attitude and told me if I wanted to participate to yoga I had to pay a 2 day pass: 68$ (my 2 years membership was 80 a month !) I couldn't believe it. He was very rude when I asked to see a manager he said I had to leave. Wouldn't let me talk and assaulted me (I have a video) by standing in front of me and walking towards me to scare me. After the incident I got a mail from the owner who said since I wasn't a member anymore I shouldn't even have entered the gym...!? UNBELIEVABLE
All these guys care about is your money
I put this comment on Google it was removed I am posting it again.
I'm just sharing what happened.
As a matter of fact EQUINOX and RETROFITNESS told me they were pleased to welcome me. So if you are new in the neighborhood and hesitate between these gyms to get a membership.... here is my story.
Might be useful. I'm really shocked the way Chalk treated me after 2 years.

This place is fantastic! It's a large space with very clean equipment. The best part is that it is never crowded here, ever! Early in the morning, right after work, weekend mornings, it is never crowded. They offer 50 or so classes. So far I've only tried the spin classes but enjoyed them each time. If you are in the Williamsburg area, you don't need to go to the city to workout. Go to Chalk.

Visited here with some passes (which we paid for) from a local hotel. The gym itself is excellent. Plenty of space, many machines and lots of free weights, however the staff on the front desk couldn't have given less of a care for our existence. Rude, disinterested and on his phone. Didn't tell us about the changing rooms, towel situation or welcome us in any way. I bought some drinks afterwards and was greeted with "that'll be six"... No please, no thank you, no manners.

I have a membership at quite a few gyms. I dealt with jack - very easy to deal with! Got a great deal too. This facility is very clean, perfectly organized and not part of the "Scene" that you get with crunch and equinox. For the money this place trumps equinox 10-1

Really awesome gym and great environment with fantastic natural lighting and exposed brick. Plenty of machines and equipment while being mindful of personal space (doesn't pack in machines so close to each other that you are in each other s way etc). Friendly people, pretty young vibe, never unapproachably busy. Paid for the full year upfront because of how much I enjoyed my first visit.
