Centre County Women's Resource Center: Empowering Survivors and Eliminating Violence
Centre County Women's Resource Center (CCWRC) is a non-profit organization that provides support, advocacy, and education to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and other forms of gender-based violence. The center was founded in 1974 by a group of concerned citizens who recognized the need for a safe space for women who were experiencing abuse.
Since then, CCWRC has grown into a comprehensive resource center that serves individuals of all genders and ages in Centre County and surrounding areas. The center offers a range of services including crisis intervention, counseling, legal advocacy, medical advocacy, housing assistance, support groups, community education programs and more.
Empowering Survivors
At CCWRC we believe that every person has the right to live free from violence. We are committed to empowering survivors by providing them with the tools they need to heal from trauma and rebuild their lives. Our crisis intervention services are available 24/7 through our hotline or walk-in services at our office.
Our counseling program offers individual therapy sessions as well as support groups for survivors. Our licensed therapists specialize in trauma-informed care which means they understand how trauma affects individuals physically and emotionally. They work with clients to develop coping skills that can help them manage symptoms such as anxiety or depression.
Legal Advocacy
Navigating the legal system can be overwhelming for survivors who have experienced abuse. That's why we offer legal advocacy services at CCWRC. Our advocates provide information about legal options such as obtaining Protection From Abuse (PFA) orders or filing criminal charges against an abuser.
Medical Advocacy
Survivors may also need medical attention after experiencing abuse or assault. Our medical advocates accompany clients to hospitals or clinics where they can receive treatment while providing emotional support throughout the process.
Housing Assistance
Finding safe housing is often one of the biggest challenges facing survivors who are trying to leave an abusive situation. At CCWRC we offer emergency shelter as well as transitional housing programs designed to help clients find stable long-term housing solutions.
Eliminating Violence
In addition to supporting survivors directly CCWRC is also committed to eliminating gender-based violence through community education programs aimed at raising awareness about these issues among youth adults professionals etc.. We believe that prevention is key when it comes to ending violence so we work closely with schools businesses faith communities law enforcement agencies etc.. To promote healthy relationships respect boundaries consent etc..
