Centara Grand West Sands Resort & Villas, Phuket Review

Relaxing, large pool resort, delicious tropical drinks, well apportioned breakfast buffet, and postcard-beautiful sunsets!

Not good at all first night at check-in they want lump sum deposit then went to our room it was dirty dusty filthy no hot water, water was running brown. NOT child friendly at all nowhere to bath todlers, no parents bathroom no change tables at all in the whole resort, no access way for prams.House keepers breaking our stuff management dont do anything about it, the pools are infectious and the rough pool tiles made the kids toea wear till they bled. Plus dont forget the hidden taxes 10% and on top another 7% and it is smelly beyond anything, don't know why people are rating 5 stars when clearly its not and dont put your kids in the kids clib the workers dont care they shout at the kids with no parents there scissors on tables all toys are broken and unsafe. A lot of small choking hazards on the floor so parents keep an eye on your kids. And wich lobby doesn't have air conditioning and stray dogs all over the place we'll never go back there....

Great for kids very beautiful resort had great fun with the entertainment team Aria and Billy doing the activities, especially doing the photo hunt and aqua dance in the pool.

Loving our holiday here. Gorgeous place, attentive and friendly staff with something new and fun to do everyday without ever leaving. Food is great and happy hour everyday means good alcohol prices.

Well maintained pools. We love the one close to the sea. And our children love the cliff you can jump of into the pool. Activities for the kids are available every day .
It can be a bit crowded on the high season but even then you will find a nice spot to sit. The staff are nice and helpful.
The beach is amazing as we.

Nice view , near the Karon beach, it's awesome area for Roaming and passing the vacation time.

Its a very bad resort. Especially the behaviour of the reservation manager @Nattawut.
Never visit this resort of phuket because they take advantage once you book and pay this resort.
They are the only one resort who didnt even refunded back the amount during the worldwide pandemic covid19..
Every other resort in phuket refunded the amount as we didnt travel.
The manager here is very rude and not friendly.
Shame on this resort who is getting advantageous in pandemic situations.

Lovely place but it's so expensive, if only they reduced the price then more people would eat and drink there. If your staying here then the beach shack to the right of the property is great and cheap !!

It was very a precious time to spending with the family. Moreover, the location so closely to the beach and enjoy a sunset with a nice view.

It was a great place for us and the children. The view was fantastic and the pools are perfect for the kids, we had a great time. Travelling in and out of this place is simple, just need to shuttle in and out but if not the location itself is self-sufficient as its located in Karon beach.

Unbelievable about the lack of security, cameras and horrendous service that allowed a Norwegian man to barge in and kill a british tourist. Lack of emergency equipments, horrible system. How can you lack CCTV cameras in a 5 star hotel? Speechless.

Accommodation on the hill The way up and down may be difficult. But there is a shuttle service available at all times

We were celebrating my 30th birthday and we couldn't have choya better place. They did everything for us to have a great experience here. Food was beyond delicious and fair price, the hotel was very clean and organized, staff was very polite and awesome people. Definitely the resort around, location was great too.

at the origin there was a lake with fishermen and ecrevisses, where the naura was sweet and the calm and the silence reigned there ... today the cement dominates everywhere and the nature suffocated and become artificial ... to pay the ephemeral luxury to some passing tourists!

So impressive with everything from the room the staff the beach the pool the breakfast to the view.
Love to be back again soon.

Nice hotel but I will not comeback. It is in bad locatio far from town. If You want to go to reatuarant You have to take hotel taxi which is more expensive then usualy or You have to eat in expensive restaurant in hotel. Also I had room in second building and to get to my room from pool I have to walk up 3 floors to get to lift and it was the worst thing . Please bear in mind that in most of the buildings in this hotel there is not lift from ground floor and If You are old or have problems with walking 3 floors up then this is not hotel for You. Beside of that it was nice hotel with beutyfull view

Best place to stay in Phuket, resort is first class and the food is incredible

Awesome!! Great location, fantastic property and amazing service. I loved the cooking classes we took here.

It's a beautiful hotel. It has it's own private beach, small infinity pool and a splash pool. Rooms are very big and few of them have good view. We found hotel spa service pretty expensive and preferred spa outside. They have play area for Kids and many activities in hotel which will give you overall relaxing experience.
The dinner and lunch menu are reasonably priced. Have Italian, Mexican, Asia food options. The complimentary breakfast had lot of options.

Hotel is 5-6 Kms away from Patong and on a hill. You can get tuk tuk/taxi outside hotel for 300-400 THB for one way trip to Patong. Hotel provides taxi to multiple locations across Phuket at a cost.

Positive:
The location of the hotel was right on the ocean, with a great beach. The entire hotel area was very nice and well maintained. Small river with fish. The pools were nice too, but you could also see them over the years. We had a problem with our first room, this was solved easily! The staff were very friendly. Of course it was cleaned every day. Very good restaurants. The breakfast buffet was very large (lots of hot dishes). You could have breakfast very well on the terrace, we never had to wait as mentioned in other reviews.

Negative:
What I didn't like about these hotels was the worn condition of the rooms. I find that a shame at this price. What I could not understand that the other guests constantly occupied the pool chairs in the morning and were not there all day, that was exhausting, that it was actually forbidden to occupy the pools. The breakfast was huge, for me as a European I would have liked to be able to offer a little more sausage and a different cheese, there were only two types of sliced cheese. Otherwise there was a huge, large hot kitchen. We were before in the 5 star hotel in Bangkok (good comparison) - there was never something missing from the buffet - unfortunately very often (it was refilled but always delayed, sometimes I found the plates too small for the many People) - O juice, melon etc ... At check-in one of us had to carry his suitcase, the other suitcase was pushed by the employee. Communication in advance (transfer bus station - hotel) was a bit difficult, worked - only there was no order confirmation or the like after payment, so it was a bit uncertain for us.

I booked "Premium Deluxe Ocean Facing". I have also sent multiple emails to the hotel stating my intention. I thought my room came with an outdoor spa, unfortunately it didn't so I tried my best to ask for one, but not helpful at all.

Through Expedia, the room looks wonderful with the OCEAN VIEW. Expedia desription says ROOM WITH VIEW. It was facing the swimming pool, ocean is covered by the front block that was facing the ocean and a huge tree. I told them that this was not the agreed room I've booked for. They failed to provide me a room that was ocean facing. The girl who attended to us, Miss Beer, was very helpful and really nice. She kept calling back and forth to check if the room could be changed. I refuse to accept this room as it was not ocean facing at all, it will change my original plans to stay in-room and enjoy all night. If swimming pool is called ocean, then it is "ocean facing". If you look at the map of the hotel, only two buildings has really good ocean view. The rest at the back could barely see anything. Possibly blocked by buildings in front.

So we were ushered back to the reception, and two offers were given
1) Upgrade your room to Luxury Pool Suite with additional club member benefits (free food and drinks and such) + 4000THB
2) Downgrade with no compensation at all.

So the hotel failed to provide me the room and I was asked to pay more for another room or downgrade with no compensation. I paid about 6000THB for the room I booked for, if I were to pay 10000THB I would have chosen a DIFFERENT HOTEL! Seriously, I felt I've been scammed. Arriving at the hotel to receive something the hotel could not deliver and NO compensation/upgrade or whatsoever. I argued with the downgrade and they should have provided me with breakfast vouchers or whatever compensation they could which they refused to and claimed the vouchers are "too expensive".

We reluctantly agreed to the downgrade as we have no choice, can't get back 500THB but they credited it to our room for any in-room services. With the poor effort of the hotel, we have decided not to dine in their hotel. It is a trap to make you pay more when you arrive. Manager did not even come out to attend to us, just Miss Beer to attend to us.

Miss Beer told us that "ocean facing" means the room is facing the ocean regardless or not a tree or an entire building is blocking the whole room view. So even if I can't see the sea, it's still "ocean facing" because the direction from our window faces the ocean.

So when I finally went to the new room, we switched on air-conditioning for 2 HOURS and yet no cold air at all. Set temperature to the lowest and yet it's still showing 28 degrees in room temperature. Called them 5x in 1.5 HOURS before they actually came to see. After those boys fixed it, it was still not much difference. We suffered in their super hot room throughout the night. Thankfully it wasn't so hot at night but the heat came back in the morning.

Also, this hotel is not walking distance to shops outside at Karon, to go there the lowest fee is 200THB for 2km ride. And the same charge from the beach. In two days we spent more than 1000thb going back and forth. We would not recommend anyone to stay here in Centara unless you plan to stay inside and don't go out at all.

I am utterly disgusted by the way this was being handled. 6000thb, waste of money for such room, no view anyways, location is bad it's at the end of Karon and getting a cab is MUST to go out (good job to slaughter tourists), practically no air-cond room, just terrible for the price that they charge. Left the hotel as unhappy guests. Never again.

To those of you researching for a place to celebrate anniversary or a special occasion, please don't go to Centara. It's just not worth the hassle. There are plenty of other hotels in the area, I would recommend Movenpick over Centara.

Very fun resort with pleasant indoor water park when you don't feel like going to the beach or to entertain children. Excellent breakfast with every choice from various types of bread to cold meats, cheese jams and international breakfast. The in-house restaurants are also beautiful. We had a pleasant stay. We also had the hot tub. Recommended

cleaning is very good but the bat and reastrant service are bad they do not serve the guests what they need they are very lazy

Used to stay many times, beautiful, Sino-Portuguese style The room is not small. Excellent service As the entrance is very steep, there is no path to walk on the road.

Beautiful hotel with great animation team, excellent pools and absolutely great food and cocktails. Staff is professional and friendly.

Pathetic comditions of rooms and corridor of hotel.. not even a 3 star hotel by the standard of rooms and all.. building is very old.. plus housekeeping and room services are very poor.. there are flying mosquitoes and insects inside room.. behind bed and all.. dont go by the pictures...

Food is very average.. breakfast is not by any five star standards.... pool is very good...

I stayed in 2 other five star hotels there in phuket and this was below par...

Lovely hotel! Nice, polite and helpful staff! Great sandy beach. Horshi pools! Large beautiful area. The child just "squeaked" with happiness!

It took a bit long to check-in but food, hotel, services and rooms are very good. There is bit language problem for Indians.

Fab hotel for the family. Billy and Aria have great activities for the children. Lots to do! Children enjoyed helping remove plastic from the beautiful beach. Would highly recommend a visit. Fun doing the photo hunt (can you spot the lizard that lives at the hotel?)

Nice resort - just needs some love and care around some areas (e.g. chipped pool tiles)

staff are friendly, the tour desk is helpful and the food at the restaurants is good.

Gym is reasonable, spa is v nice and kids club was demanded every day by our 4 and 8 yo

If you do stay there it is worth the trip up the cliff to the villas restaurant which has a pretty awesome view back over the beach.

cocktails by pool are a little watered down - would rather pay more for something with the right punch then pay less to be drinking fruit juice.

Good place, good Italian restaurant, nice for swimming

Children are delighted with the towers, slides, music under the water, the whole water maze. Bought entrance per day for 1500 baht, children free, 500 entrance, 1000 in any restaurant.

The rooms are very nice and the room-service is good. The hotel s private beach is disappointingly full of garbage and there is no perceivable effort from the Hotel to clean its own beachfront (see photos). The rooms were 400 mts away from the breakfast buffet and the pool areas, through the small parking lot, in open air. We got completely drenched in rain getting there and back. Breakfast was simple but below the Centara Hotel standards that I come to enjoy. These are Covid 19 times and rainy season so I can understand some part of these inconveniences. I recommend the hotel as a sleep over stop, but not for the resort experience (at least for now).

As for us, it was a quite expensive. And also this place was too far from our hotel so we have to take a cab from application. This called Toun taxi (invitation code SLLWKK). It's way much cheaper compared to Grab taxi or taxi from hotel! Easy and cheap taxi with good English speaking drivers!!! But you should to try by yourself!
