Last year was the first year our son went to Cedarwood Academy and he was almost three years old at the time. From the very first time, he loved it. Where else can you find a lizard, hold it and pet it; use a zip line to move around the playground, play in a real kitchen with mud, water and different flowers?!
His social skills, curiosity, and independence have improved tremendously. I can say for sure that he loves it a lot. It's a small multi age school with an individual approach. Kids are very independent, they are able to explore nature and their surroundings without limits, and of course they learn so much in the classroom!
It's not just a school, it's more than that! All teachers do their job with so much soul, love and care, it's an amazing place for kids to be kids and learn even more than in a regular school.

We attended Cedarwood for 4 years until we moved to Atlanta. My daughter attended from K-3rd and my son for preschool. I am very proud to have been a member of such a loving, caring and dedicated community. The needs of each child are addressed on an individual basis in such a creative environment. The instructors use their knowledge of multiple methods to facilitate the best learning process for each child and the multi-age environment creates a nurturing atmosphere for respectful communication from older to younger and vice versa. At Cedarwood, there is a unique blend of academic focus with outdoor exploration that we feel has enhanced the development of our children. Their minds are active in a flow of work and play throughout the day. There was a vibrancy they always came home with excited for the school days to come. In addition, the preschool creates a very gentle immersion for children that are native Russian speakers. It is a joy to see the younger children communicating verbally and nonverbally as they build their relationships. I highly recommend it!

We are thrilled with our first and only choice of school for our twin boys. They have now been attending Cedarwood for five months and every week we are more and more pleased with their growth and development in the preschool program and look forward to adding another day next school year. My kids have apraxia and both the teachers and admin along with their fellow classmates have been integral in their confidence in talking more. One of the most amazing things about this school is that their students emotional well being is first and foremost. I love that my kids are developing coping skills along with communication with their peers through unstructured forest play, books, songs, group gatherings and interactions with different age groups throughout their day. We absolutely adore Cedarwood and would highly recommend to any parent looking for an amazing experience with a school that nurtures a love of learning and appreciation of nature.

Very excited for my son to experience a full year here. We got a late start last year, and in that short time my 4yo has learned so much. I have learned quite a lot about him as well. It's very interesting to see your children through a teacher's eyes. He can't wait to go back to school. The idea of outdoor learning is so unique. This is definitely the school we will be sending our youngest to as well. Thanks for all you do. :)

This year will be so special for our family - our boy goes to preschool to Cedarwood Academy. I am really excited about that - it will be a great experience for the whole family. Every time we visit Cedarwood for some reasons, we get what we need: my son plays and I have a pleasure learning how to be a wise parent. Actually nobody teaches parents there)) but every time I talk to the stuff, I get something new and important in understanding kid's behavior and kid's world. I feel that Cedarwood is a great place for kids - a lot of possibilities to play, discover and learn, in a most natural way. I'm sure that there happy childhood of my son will be continued :) can tell even more - I would love to spend there time also - to play, paint or read, and forget about time. So grateful to the team - thank you for creating such amazing creative and harmony environment for the kids!

As a family, we believe the wild and natural play are unmatched in providing children with a wholesome education. Cedarwood fulfills everything we've wanted in a place for our daughter to grow and learn. Over the past several years she has grown from a shy, very attached kid to being independent, eager to make friends, and best of all, encouraged to ask questions and express her creativity and curiosity. I love that her experience at home can be matched to her experience at school, and she can be weirdly awesome without an adult telling her otherwise. Cultural exposure is also important to us, and we're so glad she experiences other languages and customs at Cedarwood. The teachers clearly love the kids and know each of them for all their unique qualities, and encourage parent involvement. In Charlotte, there are not many outdoor schools yet. Cedarwood stands out not just for the people, but the location is amazing! The kids play in the forest every day... How rare is that?! All in all, we love it and will be staying as long as possible, with our little one joining next year as well. Thanks Cedarwood!!!

My girl was at this school last year for preK and I liked it. She loved it. Outdoor time, tire swing, adventures, lizards, gardening, kids of different ages playing together and helping each other to learn... what not to like? They can climb trees, play in creeks, explore without fear. I also appreciate the fact that teachers are not stressed out, there is bilingual atmosphere for kids who need it and everything is hands on. Kids thrive there. They just moved to a new and better location. Highly recommend

This school is just amazing. Our daughter started kindergarten here one year ago and looks forward to school every day. The outdoor space and freedom to learn through play and cooperation with classmates has helped her grow so much. We all can't wait for school to begin again in the fall, and will send our younger child there for preschool as well.

This is one of the most wonderful school options in Charlotte if you are looking for a Montessori/Waldorf/Nature child-led learning based school experience for your children. It is also mixed age groups and the use of the forest everyday is essential for the children s natural development. The fact my child gets to be outside and breathing fresh air the majority of the school day is one of my goals for her especially living in the city! The teachers are kind and caring and my daughter also gets exposure to other languages and helps other bi-lingual children learn English. Highly recommended!!!
