History

The Cathedral of the Incarnation has a long and fascinating history that dates back to its founding over a century ago. The idea for building a new cathedral in Nashville was first proposed by Bishop Thomas Sebastian Byrne in 1904. However, it wasn't until 1910 that construction on the cathedral began.

The design for the Cathedral of the Incarnation was inspired by European cathedrals from centuries past. The architect chosen to design this magnificent structure was William Halsey Wood, who had previously designed several other notable churches throughout America.

Construction on the cathedral took four years to complete, with many delays due to World War I. Finally, on December 25th, 1914 - Christmas Day - Bishop Byrne dedicated this beautiful new house of worship to God.
