CareFree Home Review

We purchased our first home from Carefree 18 months ago and we love our home! We saw several different builders before we saw the model we fell in love with! Our salesman John Dugan went above and beyond to explain the whole process to us and would constantly keep up updated on the status of our home. They promised our home would be built in 6 months and they built it in 3 months! We are very satisfied with our home and especially our salesman for being so detailed and attentive throughout the whole process!

Me and my husband had a very pleasant experience with Idalie at the design studio. Her patience and knowledge help us to enjoy a very important part of our lives. Just for the little interaction she had with us she was able to know what we were looking for our home. Thank you so much again.

We did the virtual experience due to the covid 19 situation and were really bummed we had to do it this way but i gotta say, they were very professional and exceeded our expectations. Cant wait for our home to be built!!!!!

Going to design our home was a blast! Jennifer was very helpful and informative about how different designs went together and how it would essentially go together. We are very excited about moving into our new home! We pretty much were able to pick everything that we would like to upgrade and change to make our house into a forever home! I would highly recommend carefree homes just in general due to the design studio and what they have to offer!

STAY FAR AWAY from this builder! Care Free has provided us with nothing but terrible customer service since starting the building process. No one ever returned any of my phone calls, and to make matters worse, their representatives would get annoyed when I would ask questions. They rushed us into picking a floor plan but instead ended up building the model of their choosing because "the permits were already in," according to them. Not to mention they completely disregarded our $500 deposit for the lot. Regardless, as first-time buyers, we decided to continue the process. We began in February with the house projected to be finished by July/August of 2020. However, due to COVID, the house ended up being finished in mid-September. When the house was finally done, they failed to include the side rock walls. This particular model is built with the garage behind the house facing an alley. All the neighboring Care Free homes in that same block have that rock wall built. According to them, my house was the ONLY ONE that did not get a rock wall because it was not part of the floorplan. I went back to the original floor plan to verify this, and sure enough, they were lying to me. Since Care Free did not take us seriously, we decided to take our business elsewhere. A fair warning to any new buyers, if you see Care Free, don't walk away, RUN away!

Being a first time buyer can be overwhelming dealing with all the different home builders in the area. Mr. Dungan made the process as smooth as possible. You can tell he is not only knowledgeable, but he REALLY cares what needs you want in your new home as well as the pitfalls first time buyers can make. A++ to Mr. Dungan and Carefree Homes!!!!

Do not purchase from CareFree Homes w/out first checking out work quality and warranty reviews. Do Not believe assurances of quality construction from sales people or construction staff. CareFree has not repair/resolved issues on punch list. Such gaps in cabinet drawers, doors, shower glass doors and other issues. Purchased Nov 2015.

Don't trust this builder they require a $5000 deposit to build a house from a different community. After you put your money down they will make an appointment at the design center. You will be shocked on the cost of upgrades they wanted $ 40000 for 2 structure changes plus the cost of all the other upgrade. If you decide to cancellation your contract even though they have not even apply for the permits they will keep your 5000. Not a honest builder. Don't buy from them. Ok I am editing my post because care free divided to give most of my money back. I only lost $1000. Lesson learned.

Our Design Studio appointment last week went great! Karina Lujan was very informative and patient with us. She made the whole process fun and alot less stressful than we had anticipated. We can't for our new home with Care free!

We bought our first home 4 months ago. We love the home, so far, but the company is who we have an issue with. We have been back and forth since we moved in and now are finding issues with our paperwork and false information being told to us. We also have struggled since day 1 of moving in to get issues fixed that should ve been fixed before we even moved in. They are not very reliable and not very honest either.
UPDATE: while the company has not acknowledged the paperwork or false information, they are working with us to find a solution to other problems, thanks to John Dungan and Roy Gomez. I highly recommend working with them, specifically, if you do want to purchase a home from here. Great, friendly guys and very helpful.

I fell in love with CAREFREE HOMES the moment I walked into a Belize model home. I knew right away that this was the style of home I wanted. It felt cozy, warm & comfortable. Just had our Design Studio appointment (9/20/2019) and we had such a pleasant experience. Karina Lujan was very patient with us and understood its not an easy process to go through. She made us feel comfortable and confident in the decisions we ultimately made. I would also recommend Rene Acosta as he has also been very helpful and understanding to all the questions we have had so far. Overall i would greatly recommend Carefree homes for your home buying needs.

I was fortunate to work with Idalie. She has a wonderful spirit and great attitude. She was very patient with me while picking out and matching my colors. I'm indecisive when it comes to stuff like that so that was a plus for me. Everything went smoothly. I cant wait to come in to see the colors in person.

THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST COMPANY to build your house in EL PASO, TX. The people they hire are people you would hire from Craigslist. None of them do good work. They charge an unacceptable amount for upgrades that aren t even done properly. They charged my family OVER $8000 FOR WINDOWS on our house. A STANDARD feature. They LIE and they do this to pay the cheapest price possible. I will NEVER RECOMMEND this company to anyone in El Paso. Even our neighbors have had NOTHING but issues. We MOVED IN WITHOUT A SHOWER DOOR. And for some reason their workers could not get the measurements correct on the door so we waited weeks to have a shower door. If we could have backed out of this sale and got our money back we would have 10,000%. DO NOT RECOMMEND. They have a good rating on BBB and I honestly believe it s because they make people put their problems as resolved before even trying to work with you. We had so many problems with our house when we moved in. We had to have a plumber come out just to fix the gas pipe for the stove because it was installed improperly and not safe. They say EVERYTHING will be the SAME as the model home GUARANTEED but when I brought up things that were different they said it s because of Code but when I walk through other homes that are being built (SAME MODEL as ours) their stuff is completely different. So who s house isn t being built to code? They are so money hungry and REFUSE to work with you on anything. GOOD LUCK! If you plan on buying from this company.

*UPDATE*
Carefree commented saying we stated two different prices in here and our BBB complaint. The reason the prices are different is because our first change order to pay for the patio door (1) was $3000. When they re ordered the windows INCLUDING the patio door (2) they charged us $5530. Meaning 5530+3000= $8530. They just refuse to admit they were wrong and help the customer that spent 8 months building a home with them.

Thank you CareFree team. My wife and I visited several builders in the Eastside area and found our home with you. Jose and Miguel sealed the deal with their explanation of their homes. We must have visited 7 times with different family members to get their feedback. Seeing the reaction of our family only solidified our decision to build with CareFree. We met Jennifer at the design center and immediately felt comfortable. Her job must be fulfilling. To see excitement in people's eyes when designing their forever home has to be a great feeling. Jennifer was patient and steered us in the right direction when needed. To all buyers: use all your time and ask for the upgrades. You may not be able to get them all but you'll have an idea of what to do later. Finally, we asked around about CareFree and received nothing but positive comments which goes a long way with us. We just started our journey but cannot wait to move in to our new CareFree home.

Great experience overall. Also, the sale after the sale. That's very important with the purchase of a new home. My wife and I had a great experience at our Carefree design studio appointment. Many of the items we thought we would need to upgrade many designed items but come to find out most of our choices were so awesome and standard! Roxana was our designer and she was so helpful. Roxana explained everything as we went along, and overall it was a great day and one step closer to our new Carefree home.

My husband and I liked the professionalism,, product knowledge, responsive to our questions that CareFree Homes design person showed us.

Do not buy from this company. They do sloppy work from exterior to interior. We found many electrical issues , door issues and the biggest issue of them all was the roof. I lived there for three years no problem with it then when I moved and rented the place out the shingles started to blow off ?? Why; because they weren't installed correctly and did the company fix it; NOPE ! The warranty doesn't cover it . They said to call the company that installed it ; so I did , and what they said to me just made laugh; call Carefree . Make sure you check the property throughly before buying !!! Sloppy, sloppy work !! Cost me the sale of my home because of it !!

Our experience with carefree was great. They were the intial builder we spoke to, and after months of navigating through other builders including custom we found that carefree s quality was unbeatable. Their staff is also great to work with all the way down to their preferred lender. Everyone is willing to listen, someone is always available to answer questions and most of all they truely want to get you into the home that s right for you. The design center appointment was fun and Jennifer was extremely helpful during the process. Carefree even offered to build the mud room we planned to do ourselves and at an exceptional price. I would highly recommend this builder to anyone.

I had been told and read reviews that the Carefree Homes Design Center was one of the best, and that the design coordinators were great at making the process clear and painless.
I was very happy when everything I had heard/read was absolutely true during my Design Appointment! This is the first time I've ever done anything like this and Mrs. Jennifer Rodriguez, the design coordinator who helped me during the process, was absolutely awesome to work with! There was an upgrade that I had in mind but was very time sensitive and she didn't hesitate to check on it to make sure it was still possible. Mrs. Rodriguez didn't push or sell me any upgrades, just presented the options and let me choose. She was very honest throughout the whole process and would offer advice whenever I got "stuck" with the design choices (I'm not a designer and sometimes its hard to visualize how an modification would turn out); again, she didn't push any extra upgrades, rather she understood what I was looking for overall and made suggestions based on designs she'd seen work before. Mrs. Rodriguez was fantastic to work with and so far my experience with Carefree Homes has been great!

ADVICE: Couple things I would recommend is to take pictures of everything during your Design appointment, even the standard choices or things you might be on the fence about, it'll help when you receive your priced Wish List. Also, if you're thinking about certain upgrades but aren't sure if it'd be cheaper to do it yourself after closing, add them to your Wish List so you can get a quote, but do all your research and find out the "do-it-yourself" cost BEFORE you get the Wish List with price quotes. When I received my Wish List with the quoted prices, I was only given a couple days before the final selections and money/deposit was due; so if you already had your own quotes, you're already ready to just compare and finalize. However, in my case, most of the quoted upgrades from Carefree were actually cheaper than if I waited and did them myself after closing.

The Design Center is beautiful and offers customers many options. Our appointment was set up with Roxana; she was pleasant and very helpful. The experience was new to us but we enjoyed it.

We would like to recommend to Carefree Homes the incorporation of a pre-color/design appointment process *prior* to color/design selections. This would allow customers to make educated decisions, timely and suitable choices in regards to colors, options, and available upgrades. Having to make these types of selections over a few hours is stressful and takes away from the customers experience.

Additionally, please consider offering home design simulation software. This would enhance the Design Studio experience and give customers a complete visual of their home as colors, options, and upgrades are selected.

We are undeniably excited about our new home and can t wait to see it coming together.

Although we had some miscommunication they were able to fully resolve all issues then and there at the design studio to the best of our interest and got us back on track. They really are customer focused and are willing to accommodate and help you build your dream home! Having worked with a builder for our previous home we can really say that we appreciate Carefree's dedication to their reputation and their customers. We really look forward to enjoying our home Carefree for years to come.

Great experience when buying my new home. The house was finish in time. They explained the house details during different stages while in construction. CareFree has several options to choose from at the design center and different model homes to look at. Best of all, excellent quality!

We bought a house from them two years ago, everything looked perfect, until we lived in it. Everything started to break apart, we started to notice stuff was screwed on horribly, they only allow one company to rewire alarms and speakers (they will not explain how anything works unless you buy the speakers or alarms) the workers can stalk family member and nothing will be done by corporate. Lastly, landscaping is the worst, the outline of the windows also start to crack and gap after a year. They round the edge of the walls with an aluminum piece, so if you bump it while moving or ever, it will bend and ruin the rounds edge. Also, the piece starts to separate.

Be aware! just called for warranty on a property bought in 12/12 and they told me is not the same company, that the older company closed and now this company can not honor any warranty..... materials are low end and cheap they mend issues the first year mostly they will send a handyman for any issue no specialists ,,, after that any extra cost is on you

Roxana was very professional and very patient every step of the way. She took the time to help me and even gave me real life scenarios in order to help narrow down my selections. I really appreciate all the options available to buyers, it really helps make this home your home .

Carefree is our new home and we could not have made a better choice. They are transparent and you are with them every step of the way. I feel like I got a fabulous value when comparing them with other home builders, reviews, and pricing. We have settled in and want to give Mike, Pat, and Fernando a shout out for putting up with all of our questions, visits, and concerns.

We love our Santiago but Carefree needs to make lots of changes and they need to find better subcontractors for almost all the trades. I need to state that at this time I am rating Carefree a 2 because they are working with us on our concerns.

30 day. Working through issues. I have had 3 different area superintendents at this point, none better than the original...Roy. The last two don t seem to know much and aren t very hands on.

6 month. At this point most issues have been resolved but there are a few pending and we ve been told they ll be taken care of at the 1 year mark. Also, we have a new area superintendent, that makes 4 in 6 months. Corrected issues:

1. Living room ceiling finally fixed with a low hanging light fixture (see photos)
2. Bathtub refinished
3. Great room window made level.

Pending issues are:

1. Interior and exterior cracks from settling
2. One exterior decorative pop-out needs to be fixed (see photos)
3. Master bath seems to be too hot during summer and too cold during winter.

Previous problems and remaining issues that Carefree is refusing to rectify:

1. Driveway was poured and incorrectly stamped twice! Carefree will not fix or reimburse me.

2. Exterior lighting upgrade package wasn t installed and Carefree refuses to refund the amount I paid for the upgrade.

I would still not recommend Carefree. Maybe my opinion will change in April of 2019 if everything is corrected.

Houses don't last. I recently purchased a home that was built by Carefree in 2012. It has had a myriad of problems and the designers put very little thought into the function and daily life of the house.

The problems first. The windows are the cheapest double pane that I have encountered. They don't seal well and many of the seals between the pane and frame are loose or missing. When the wind blows the dust accumulates inside the house on the window sills, because of the poor fitment of the window. Many of the plumbing fixtures leak. This is due to the low cost fixtures that are used. The kitchen faucet is loose in the counter, because the clamp that is used to attach it is rusted. The clamp is rusted because the sink is an under-mount model that was not sealed properly and water leaked between the sink and the counter. One of the toilets leaks. I believe this is due to the a poorly designed flush mechanism that splashes on the tank lid. The water then runs outside the lid and down the outside of the toilet. One of the bathroom faucets was leaking, so I pulled it apart to find the culprit. I assumed it was the valve, but it turned out to be the pipes in the faucet itself. The pipes on the cold supply side and the outlet side were both cracked. The cracks are not new, based on the mineral deposits on the outside of the cracks and the oxidation on the cracks themselves. The cabinets are very cheap and many of the doors don't close well. Some of this poor closing is due to warped or twisted doors, some of it is due to improperly mounted hinges. A few of the tiles sound hollow, which is due to the poor tile laying. Thankfully they have not cracked.

On to the design issues I have encountered. The hardware on the doors is all rubbed bronze, but the plumbing fixtures are all chrome. Chrome fixtures are less expensive, so this is simply a cost saving measure that Carefree has taken. The trim in the house is white, but the kitchen and bathroom cabinets are a very dark brown. The cabinets look nice enough, but don't fit the look of rest of the house. The lighting in the kitchen is atrocious. First of all the kitchen is very dark, largely because the lack of windows. I can't blame the lack of windows on the builder, but that could have helped the darkness. The cabinets could be lighter or white, which would have matched the trim in the rest of the house. Also, the lighting could have been better. There is a single fluorescent light in the center of the kitchen. There is no light over the island and there is a separate bar area that has no light, making it almost useless after the sun is down.

Many of these gripes I will deal with over the next few months, but all could have been helped with a bit more thought by the builder. The broken fixtures and windows are simply cost saving steps that the builder took in order to maximize profit. I would not recommend Carefree as a builder simply because they are in the business to turn a profit and do not build houses to last.

My husband and I bought a home from Carefee in October of 2017. It is by far the best experience and decision we have ever made. I would reccomend this builder to anybody in the search of a new home.

The homes have been upgraded over the years and are now better constructed than other builders in town. Go check them out and ask about all the features! Very helpful and knowledgeable salespeople and realtors.

We loved the design studio and making a myrid of different selections for our home! The staff was very kind and helpful, even sometimes providing their role as referree between my girlfriend and myself when we couldn't aggree on some tile. They worked quickly so we can have our permits done and start breaking ground. The only bad thing was that we couldn't get faux wood blinds in a dark brown color as was advertised in model homes. Regardless, we can't wait to have our home built!

The people there were very friendly and helpful regardless of the situation in which everything was done through video chat. They did a very good job giving options and recommendations for our future home.

Enjoyed working with Jennifer, she is attentive, patient, and understanding. Only wish design appointment would be there at the studio and not on FaceTime. However that is out of their control due to current COVID situation. You do get an opportunity to go in person but the options are so vast that you want to see everything. I have owned 4 homes. All bought new or still under warranty. I ve had bad experiences with Lennar and other builders not wanting to take care of obvious problems, big or small. It was always a fight to get things corrected that should be fixed no questions asked. This is my first Carefree home. Incredible build quality. Nice 6 thick wood frames (don t ever change it!) and also nice full tile roof (don t ever take away the option of full tile roofing guys it s key to some of us who don t want flat roof). This house is built like a tank. Nicely insulated, thick walls. My AC/heater hardly runs. It holds in the temperature better than any new home I ve lived in. The 6 thick real wall (not styrofoam sprayed with stucco but real wood and real studs and thick blown in insulation) is a game changer.

I ve had issues that were cosmetic or issues that came up. I was given ZERO issues to have them resolved. The builder warranty service and post purchase care under Annette Moreno 100% top notch first class service. I have never been loyal to any builder because of bad experiences. Now I can say, when I buy a house again, it Will be 100% for sure a Carefree it Carefree is building in the area I will live in. I wouldn t even bother to mess with another builder, why risk it! 100% satisfied. They don t play games, they treat you right, especially after the close of the sale during warranty and after when it s MOST important.

God bless this company for treating my family right with a very good quality house, good price for the quality, and even better customer service should anything pop up.

Keep up the good work! Don t change a thing guys! I ll be back again as we outgrow this house as our family grows.

Have been in my home for about 5 months now. I can honestly say that I still feel great about my decision on purchasing my home from CareFree. Our sales rep John Dungan was and continues to be amazing. He always takes a proactive approach in everything he does. You would think that after 5 months after our home purchase he could careless, but that is not the case. Even at this point he continues following up and ensures that we are good. Because of him I referred my cousin and he himself got his CareFree home about a month ago. CareFree = Great company with Great Employees.

I was a bit nervous doing a video chat meeting to pick out the details for my future house but the staff was amazing in helping us pick the right items. My husband and I felt like we were there in person with her going through it all.

This was the first time I had the opportunity to attend CareFree's design studio or any other for that matter. I didn't know what to expect, except for the fact that I had to select everything that I wanted for my house and this made me feel a bit apprehensive. However, Roxana Breceda made the experience seem less complicated than I ever imagined. As a man, that's not something I feel comfortable doing and even felt a bit intimidated by the prospect of having to select color schemes that would go well with the floor tile, the carpet, granite colors and everything else. However, I'm happy to share that having one of CareFree's home design experts, Roxana, made the experience enjoyable and satisfying. She assisted me with color schemes, floor tile design and colors, granite countertop colors and so much more. Roxana was very helpful and "patient" because the appointment can seem like a long time, but time goes quick. Roxana made the entire experience much easier than I expected. Her expertise and knowledge is invaluable. I couldn't have done it without her, Another fact that adds to the experience is the great selection of choices in everything for the home. A big thumbs up for Roxana and the CareFree team, because they have created an experience in home design that is very unique.

Jennifer was extremely helpful and made the process stress free and fun! My husband and I sailed through this experience quickly and efficiently. I appreciate everything she did for us!

Idalie was fantastic. The studio has many options to choose from and Idalie helped me every step of the way. She gave me time to look at my options together. The examples in the studio allows you to picture what you will be getting. I highly recommend CareFree Homes.

Our sales person Pat Sanchez and her husband Mike, gave me plans for the different houses and gave me many tours of them. Pat, Mike and Idalie were helpful and friendly with my family and I. This is my first experience buying a house and every step of the was gifted with understanding, experienced, caring and kind people.

The carefree design studio is extraordinary! We worked with Roxanna and she was awesome! She made our experience wonderful and was very informative about every detail and question that we had for her. This is our second new home construction but the first with Carefree as our builder. Carefree is leaps and bounds ahead of our prior experience. Customer service is everything and Carefree has definitely established a lasting relationship with us!

My husband and I are in the process of building our Carefree home. Carefree Homes is a great company to work with. Our home representatives Martin and Marcos have been wonderful. The design center offers an abundance of choices to create your dream home. My only suggestion would be to do your own research on colors and styles you want to implement in your home, so that the design center experience does not become overwhelming. We are happy with our choices and cannot wait to see our finished home.

Overall the whole experience at the design center was great. The design studio was just outstanding. Every detail of the house s selections is well portrayed to make the best decisions possible. Also, they have very friendly and efficient staff that guide you through the process to help you design the house you want.

I had Jennifer as my home design associate and she did such a great job! Bcs of COVID I wasn't able to go into the design center. To make up for that they scheduled a facetime appointment for me AND sent real-life pictures a few days before. ALSO, I changed my mind a few times on what color I wanted the cabinets after the meeting and I reached out to Jennifer a few times and she was very professional and helpful. Not annoyed at all that I had so many changes.

The experience so far has been great. This is my first home build. The people that I have worked with so far with Carefree has been top notch, hence the reason for five stars. The design center was very helpful as well when it came to choosing the colors and there was more than one that liked they did not mind giving me a price for all the colors.
