Compared to the old health insurance i had (Community Health Group) they are very quick in getting you the care you are entitled to. They even provide non-medical transportation for individuals who qualify for it. I would highly recommend Blue Shield of California to my friends and family.
They are super late, never get anything done properly ...most of the time. Simply horrible.

These people are only interested in getting you to sign up with them. Once they have you, Good luck trying to get the medical help you need! If you're on Medicare and you signed up with Care 1st, they now control your Medicare. Example: I hurt my back and my doctor wanted an X-ray. When I went to get the X-ray the woman at the front desk told me they couldn't take the X-ray right now. That I had to wait until they received approval for those services from Care 1st. I waited 3 days with my back hurting so bad I could hardly stand and I still hadn't gotten a call saying I was approved for x-rays. I called Care 1st customer service and they said they would "put in another request for approval". I explained the situation to the customer service person about needing help now. Embarrassingly while speaking I started crying because my pain was so bad. Apparently this just annoyed the person so they said they were transferring my call to another person for help. I was placed on hold, then my call was disconnected. I called back 2 more times and each time I had to explain all over again. Believe it or not, they said the same thing about "putting in another request..." Fed up I finally told the last person I spoke with that I no longer wanted their services. I was told I had to put it in writing and MAIL my request to them for cancellation. Seriously?! In this day and age, with email, text, Docu-sign....hand MAIL it?! I was so upset I called Medicare to see if they could help me. They said they could change it right over the phone for me. Care 1st just makes getting care more complicated and less accessible! If your wondering what happen with my back, I ended up using a credit card to pay for the help I needed. Don't make the same mistake I did! Do not sign with Care 1st!

Most helpful customer service reps in the business are here at care 1st. I spoke with Christy this afternoon and she went above and beyond customer service to help me and I appreciated it very much. Keep up the good work.
I am slightly confused why this experience deteriorated with blue shield.
