One of my favorite spots to eat in Boise due to the food and the atmosphere. The exposed sandstone walls and legislative/supreme court theme is fun.
I've been there many times with many people and nobody I've been with has ever had 1 complaint. The Borah Burger with the balsamic reduction is easily top 5 burgers I've ever had. The staff is very friendly and provide excellent service.

This was our second time there and second review. The first review was glowing. Not so good Friday night. In all fairness, the food was superb and our personal server was nice. But the evening did not start well. I had made reservations but did not realize they had any bar height tables and chairs which I don't care for. There is one, and we were seated there. We were told that was all that was available. There was a table set for 4 next to it, and we assumed it was reserved for a party of 4. Five minutes later a young couple arrived. They quickly cleared 2 places off the table for 4 and sat the 2 of them there. The noise level was also quite high. We had a fairly loud party of 6 sitting next to us, and the place was full, so the noise detracted from the intimacy of the meal. There was a blonde lady/hostess kind of wandering around, and she was rather snippy with my friend. After dinner when we were leaving, my friend asked for a toothpick. Same lady gave him a very nasty look before handing one to him. Seems like when you have just laid down $70+, you should be treated better than snide looks. We won't go back. Will only recommend with caveats.

Simply amazing. Our waiter was the best, funny and helpful. Food, specifically the salmon, was incredible. And you gotta have the bread pudding. The malbec was so delicious. Highly recommend!

We celebrated an anniversary here last week and loved it! The restaurant itself is unique, with beautiful stone walls and furnishings with a local political flavor. We were treated quite well by the manager and server, and the chef offered complimentary tastings of a delicious soup. We ordered the Steak of the Union, which was cooked medium perfectly and delicious, and the Ways and Means which is one of the top three pastas I've ever had in Boise. We hope this jewel sticks around!

Valentine's Day/Retirement special occasion dinner....Sat down right @ 5:00 reservation time. Seeing later tables being served, had to ask for a server @ 5:15 to get cocktails which were good. Got red balloon glasses for a chard. Server poured away, no tasting that $100 bottle. I ordered lamb chops, got the pork. Food presentation poor and food very salty. Second bad experience here, we're out.

My husband and I were in town for the night as he was covering a game. I found this place on Yelp and was really excited to give it a try!

We were seated promptly and (unfortunately) were next to a loud, rowdy, very drunk group of women. We couldn't hear each other talk across the table because of how loud they were. I asked our waitress if it would be possible for us to move and she was so nice and accommodating about it. The staff apologized to us for the situation (which wasn't even their fault) and brought us out a free appetizer. That really impressed me.

The food was delicious. We got the fondue to start, I ordered the Ways and Means pasta, my husband ordered the burger. All were excellent.

Ambiance is fantastic, appetizers were good, entrees were underwhelming, service was great. Restaurants are about the food first and foremost, so I weighted that aspect more than the others. We would return for drinks and apps, but we get few dinners out and we probably will not do another full dinner here.

Such amazing service and the creme brulee was fantastic. I can't say enough how welcomed we felt. It's a strange thing to come from Seattle and wonder why we can't get anything remotely like this.

I couldn t wait to try this restaurant the atmosphere is very nice and cozy. We ordered an appetizer first and waited at least 40 min. Another couple came in and sat behind us they ordered their meal and also an appetizer. They had already gotten their appetizer and then their meal and we still had not even got our appetizer. The appetizer was pretty good. Then we waited another 40 min for our main dishes. We asked for bread it came without butter. I guess they don t normally serve bread. The main dishes were not good the chicken was pretty dry. The mashed potatoes were under seasoned and cold the cauliflower which was their special vegetable was supposed to be roasted it was barely blanched still raw and not seasoned or buttered and was not roasted at all. The au gratin potatoes were so salty you couldn t even eat them. Lamb chops two were not even cooked. I was wondering why we waited so long for the undercooked cold food. Such a huge disappointment! They asked if we wanted dessert which should have been on the house after waiting over an hour for our meal. But was not offered to us in that way. Sadly we will not be returning.

Valentine s Day s prefix menu was most disappointing. French onion soup should never be so broths with crunchy onion. Prime rib should be served with some flavor without having to smear raw horseradish just to void grainy rare meat.
I had a high expectation but I am sorry to say, I was highly disgusted.

We don't get into town for dinner that often and when we do, we've had our share of over rated new venues. Our Boise friends who invited us down for a show, know their way around the local eateries but had not tried yet tried out Capitol Cellars. We were all delightfully impressed! The limited menu was varied, so we all got to try something different. Each was prepared and presented with care. The wait staff were impeccable and their recommendations spot on! A truly enjoyable experience. Prices are on the higher end, especially for their domestic wines, but it was money well spent. I think I had the best prime rib of my life and even our veggie leaning companions were blown away by their choices. It was the highlight of our evening out!

Two couples for an early pre-event dinner. Hostess, manager, waitress all super friendly and helpful. French onion soup and Caesar salad both great. Prime rib and salmon as well. Bass and pasta just ok. Other couple had Irish coffee, which they do often. Said it was the best they have ever had. Whipped cream blended in instead of floating. Service was good throughout. Will absolutely will return.

I don't normally write reviews, but is worth the time. I came here for breakfast,l. Best egg, ham, fondue cheese breakfast sandwich I've ever had. Breakfast is usually pretty simple, but they didn't forget presentation, preparation, or service. I'm about it.

Here is a hidden gem in Boise. A political themed menu in the basement of a downtown building. Great staff and excellent food. I was quite pleased with my entire dining experience. I will go back and looking forward to bringing friends for a lively debate over some delicious Idaho based food

Cool atmosphere in a great downtown location. Wait staff were friendly, but actual service was subpar... Took our order, came back 5-10 minutes later to retake our order and then still missed several items, the appetizers came at the same time the meal came. Food was well plated, but lacked flavor - not bad, but not good either except the creme brulee and chocolate tart (both excellent flavor). Would not recommend. Two stars because of the heated toilet seat :)

A unique and pleasant fine-dining experience. Tucked away just off the beaten path under an unassuming stone apartment building, Capitol Cellars offers modern local fare presented unpretentiously as real food, rather than meals of reconstructed cubes, flakes, pools and drizzles that have largely supplanted what is now considered "delicious". The atmosphere is quiet and thoughtful, breathing life back into throw-away artifacts from Idaho legislative history into functional conversation pieces. Not a place for overblown elaborative cocktails, the wine list extensive; the bottle collection lines the walls and adds to the ambience.
Service is prompt yet unintrusive, modest, while refined. This establishment is a gem hopeful to become an institution.

My only complaint (and more my hubby's) is that they only serve beer and wine, no liquor. The food was unbelievable. We stopped in in the last night of a 10 road trip and I had the Ways and Means (pasta with pork belly) and hubby had the daily Steak of the Union. Both amazing. Would definitely stop by again the next time I'm in Boise!

As we quarantine, we need, now more than ever before, the comfort of good food. While Capital Cellars is on our regular round of dining, we also consider it a special occasion spot. After checking out their special Easter menu, my bro and I decided it would be a good choice for our Easter dinner.

The sandwich was nothing special to write about. Unfortunately the sandwich was delivered with a heavy hand of aioli which took away from the sandwich. The fries were ok as they got very soggy quickly given the herbs they added to the fries. The jambalaya was not jambalaya imo. The rice...errr..risotto was cooked separately it seemed and was heavy on the butter and rich chicken stock.

The food is mediocre. $24 for a sea bass, some bland rice and 8 green beans. My waitress was ok. I order a soup and salad for me, I said I will have a soup and salad, and she took off and didn't take my wife's appetizer order. When she came back I had to say that was just for me, my wife needs to order. She left and brought out our salad and didn't ask what we had wanted to order for our main course. When she brought our soup that's when I said can we order our main course. The soup, French onion, was very watered down. I've had some very nice French onion soup and this was not very good at all. We won't be going back

Unfortunately, my experience there did not amount to what I anticipated. I chose to eat at the restaurant in celebrating a personal achievement, gaining entrance into law school. My first impression with the service was that my hostess was snooty, after I inquired information regarding seating in light of COVID-19. As for the price of the food, it is undoubtedly overpriced. The presentation was wonderful, but after the first bites of their special steak, it was unsavory and undercooked to the temperature I had requested. One of the most underwhelming and most expensive steak dinners I have had in the Treasure Valley. Very disappointed and frankly, I will never go back.

I went to Capitol Cellars recently with a group and had a lovely time during happy hour on their patio. The food (Halloumi fries) were pheromonal! And while we all sipped on different beverages, I enjoyed the 2C pinot gris. It was refreshing and hit the spot after a long day of work! Will be back soon!
