As nice as the new adoption center is, Capital Hum...

As nice as the new adoption center is, Capital Humane Society still kills far too many healthy, adoptable animals at their Park Blvd slaughterhouse. Those poor animals are never seen by the public. The so-called "euthanasia" is performed by the same $11/hour employees who mop the floors. Cats and small dogs are put in black "euth bags" and dumped in the trash, while larger dogs go into the crematorium. This goes on every single day. And as long as Bob Downey is running this place, things will never change.

Cities across the United States including Austin Texas and Reno Nevada have adopted Nathan Winograd's No-Kill Equation and are saving well over 90% of animals. They do their job of "sheltering" animals, not killing them. CHS needs to be run by a compassionate, progressive leader. Only then will they earn the title of "Humane."

The adoption process was easier than expected. I saw a pup online, I went to meet her, I adopted her. Done! Expectations zero! Service, helpfulness and especially patience....Off the charts.
So heed my advice, You want a dog or cat? Go in the center, ask to see a pet, learn the animal's basic behaviors from the professionals, ask questions, lean back and relax because you are about to leave with a new companion. Simple! Enjoy and be happy humans.

Where do I start!! I just was at the Grand Island Humane Society this past weekend and it puts our Humane Society to Shame. They have about 35+ dogs up for adoption at any given time, they are Not A Kill Happy Humane Society!! Keep in mind people of Lincoln that their is another location (Park Blvd) that is the first horor stop for all the animals brought in by Animal Control, Owner turn ins or lost& found. The animals get brought in but very few get out( alive).I volunteered at the Park Blvd Location years ago, so yes I do know what I'm talking about, I have seen first hand the extremely High % of Animals euthanized at that location!!
Do The math, their are over 60+ dogs at that location, some owners claim a small percentage, a small % are to aggressive but The majority are adoptable but The Pieloch Humane Society location has only maybe 6 or7 dogs available for adoption!! That is why I was shocked when I stopped in at The Grand Island Humane Society over The weekend,
The atmosphere is so great and loving towards all their animals. They give a very high percentage of the animals a chance at life and a forever home. I was so impressed with the staff and how their Director runs the Program I actually adopted a dog last week from them. The staff is great and works 1 on 1 with Animal Control. They are on the outskirts of town so lots of grass land for the public to show up and volunteer to walk dogs, unlike our Lincoln Shelter that built right in a concrete jungle ,surounded by Hwy 2 and Home Depot. A lot of thought went into that, Not!! It's time for a New Director!!! Lincoln,Ne has no excuse for not standing up for what is best for our Animals.

Adoptions should be first come first serve. If I show up with money and want a dog I should be able to walk out with him. They had a hold on one pet for a day and we couldn't interact with him or have him meet our current dog during the hold. The next day we call to see if he was picked up and he wasn't but now they say we can't put a hold on him because we haven't interacted with him yet. Very poor policy for a shelter that should be trying to find a happy/healthy home for their animals.

Went to adopt a dog. Another family had their dog there first to meet him. The dogs fought! Their kids were screaming and crying. I asked if we could try with our dog n they said they are going to try again tomorrow with the same family. It's clearly not going to work out. Very disappointed in their poor decision.

I spent 2 months watching the website and I found the perfect dog for me and my fiance. They had a wonderful profile made for him, he received quality care, and came with all of his vaccines, and a collar and leash. 10/10 would adopt another animal here!

Staff was very nice and very knowledgeable on their current animals. We went in just once and left with the cutest kitty. The woman at the front desk said they usually fill their facility by the end of each week, so there will always be new animals each time you go in.

Good selection of animals but they told me to come in the morning to get a dog so I came at 10:45 and evidently they told someone else to come too before me so they got the dog of my dreams and I had to drive 2 hours for nothing. They have horrible communication with adopters and two days before that they told me to come in because you can t hold over the phone even for an hour and I said I was on my way I could have gotten him then but someone held him 5 minutes before I got there. And even before that I called in and she said someone was meeting with the dog. She said wait 20 minutes and call back in and if they didn t adopt him I could come in and get him. I did that and new people were meeting with him.

I love the humane society. More people need to adopt over anything. I have had adopted two pets there, and they are healthy and so sweet. The staff are great and very patient with you. Also, they do understand that a lot of people want to come in to just play and meet the animals (they need to be socialize somehow) and you never know, you might just fall in love with that animal and decide that you re meant to be and adopt.

Capital Humane Society in Lincoln, Ne.

Capital Humane Society in Lincoln, Ne.

Listen up:

Matt Madcharo is the Director of Operations of Admission and Assessment Center there. He has been there since 2007. Last year my ex husband had to make a tough decision and give his dog away and the couple who took Myla, ended up placing her at Capital Humane Society. I called and called for weeks trying to get Myla out of there. After 3 weeks of calling Matt FINNALY returned my phone call. During that phone call he told me Myla was placed somewhere else and is no longer in their care and can t give me any information due to their policies (which I get). So for the past year I have been calling and emailing all different shelters in nebraska and surrounding areas looking for Myla, and looking on pet finder etc. I called today to circle back and spoke with Matt after 3 times of calling him he FIANLLY picked up his phone. He was extremely insensitive and said he doesn t recall that conversation (which I get it s a year ago) but they do not contract with other shelters. The animals either get put on the adoption floor or ethuanized. NATURALLY I am hurt. Becuase that is not at all what he told me prior, and HE COULD HAVE SAVED HER LIFE WITH A SIMPLE PHONE CALL. HE SHOULD BE FIRED. If he was wanting to help these animals he would have returned my call the day or next day KNOWING he was going to have her put down. I was trying to save a dog and he clearly wasn t trying to help that. Capital Humane Society REALLY needs to evaluate his employment and his ultimate goals there. HE killed Myla becuase he couldn t return a phone call. Great job Matt, I hope you see this and I will be contacting your executive director.

Be careful if you rescue a cat and have another cat or cats already at home!
I rescued a kitten after paying all of their fees. I took her home and she gave my older cat an upper respiratory infection. I have racked up $400.00 in vet bills thus far and she is still pathetically sick, eyes glued shut and swollen, inability to breathe, coughing, not eating or drinking, etc.

We got two of our kitty's from here. From what we see the set up fot the animals, & human interaction is done fairly well. Cat's in their place, dogs in their's. They have a big waiting room as you enter the building, & little interaction rooms so you can see how well the animal likes, & interacts with you. Happy critter equals happy human. The facility does well in keeping them well fed, watered, & healthy during their stay, & informs you well of any issues to be aware of. Lots of furry creatures need their forever homes. If your looking to add to your family here's place to check out. But don't come down looking, & buying purely on emotion. They need good homes, from people that care. Having a little furry creature around is more then just feed, water, & changing or cleaning their doo doo spots. It's about their happiness, & well being too. It's not always your schedule it's their's. They may not be smart like us humans are, but they need to know your interested in them. So before you buy, get educated as best as you can with the breed you are seeking to get. Have a general idea of your own future, & plan ahead, as so many of these animals are often inadequately housed, & often returned, because people to often cast aside any level of forethought before aquiring.

I was in love with a pit named Deuce. However, for having him in their care since early April, the health status report was very questionable. Staff had no knowledge of the dog. Due to the uncertainty of why he was on long term antibiotics I had to pass. I just lost my dog, but he was the sweetest. He will make someone a very good friend :)

One of the workers kinda had an attitude with me when I asked if they still had a certain dog. But other than that CBS is a wonderful place to adopt your new family member! You're helping a homeless animal and turning them into family. I am so glad we have this kind of facility in Lincoln. :)

I would never recommend getting any animal from them. The reason they cant get people to Adopt is they have too many restrictions on the animals. They wouldn't even let me look at a dog I wanted to adopt that I came and seen the day before without being told couldn't have her due to my kids. Yet the day prior we seen her with my kids should have got her then.

Worst experience and was treated as we were not good enough to adopt a dog or cat. I wanted to make King my service dog because I am 100% disabled from the Army for PTSD . And then we get told that King will be there for a long time.

About Capital Humanne Society

Capital Humane Society: A Leading Advocate for Animal Welfare

Capital Humane Society is a non-profit organization that has been serving the community since 1902. The organization's mission is to shelter unwanted pets, act as an advocate for animal welfare, and educate the public about responsible pet care. Capital Humane Society has two locations in Lincoln, Nebraska - one on South 70th Street and another on North 48th Street.

The organization's primary goal is to provide a safe haven for animals that have been abandoned or surrendered by their owners. The staff at Capital Humane Society works tirelessly to ensure that these animals receive the care and attention they need while they wait for their forever homes. They provide food, shelter, medical care, and socialization opportunities to all of the animals in their care.

In addition to providing shelter and care for animals in need, Capital Humane Society also acts as an advocate for animal welfare. They work with local lawmakers and other organizations to promote laws and policies that protect animals from abuse and neglect. They also work with law enforcement agencies to investigate cases of animal cruelty.

One of the most important aspects of Capital Humane Society's mission is education. The organization believes that educating the public about responsible pet ownership is key to reducing the number of unwanted pets in our community. To this end, they offer a variety of educational programs throughout the year.

For example, they offer classes on basic pet care such as grooming, feeding, exercise needs etc., which are open not only for those who adopt but also anyone interested in learning more about how best take good care of pets at home or even those who want tips before adopting a new furry friend into their family.

They also offer programs specifically designed for children such as summer camps where kids can learn about different types of animals while having fun playing games or doing crafts related with them; school visits where educators can teach students about responsible pet ownership; tours around facilities so people can see firsthand what goes into caring properly these lovely creatures etc..

Capital Humane Society relies heavily on donations from individuals like you who share our passion for animal welfare. Your support helps us continue our important work providing sheltering services , advocating against cruelty towards any living being including domesticated ones like dogs or cats among others , educating people how best take good care these lovely creatures we share planet earth with!

In conclusion: If you're looking for an organization dedicated to improving animal welfare in your community then look no further than Capital Humanne society! With over 100 years experience helping homeless pets find loving homes while promoting responsible pet ownership through education initiatives aimed at both adults & children alike - there really isn't anyone better equipped than them when it comes down making sure every creature gets treated fairly regardless its species!
