We just stayed at Candy Hill this past week and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We drove all the way from Michigan to camp here. Upon arrival, we were greeted by friendly store staff who had us escorted to our camp site. Our shady site had 50 amp service that was easily able to handle our two a/c units, hair dryers, micro and other electronic devices that the kids ran all week long without interruption.
I know some people have left negative reviews regarding the so called hidden fees. We did not experience any hidden fees whatsoever. I'm not sure what that is about but I can guess that those reviewers were maybe campers who wanted visitors to stay for free which is not allowed. Visitors are welcome but you must pay for them to stay. This is not a new concept, and we have paid for guests at other campgrounds. Also, I believe the rules indicate that the camping fee includes 2 adults and 2 children per site. The luxury sites include 6 people for the fee. So there's nothing hidden there.
Beyond that, the pool is new and kept in very clean condition as is the rest of the campground. Our guests and daughter enjoyed safely swimming every day. The campground also has a workout room and tanning facility although we did not partake as it's not our thing. The store was nice with rentals of bikes, and a wagon full of wood for your campfire. They also had golf carts for sale.
The campground also has an enclosed dog run for your pets. There's a sunny side and a shady side to the run as well.
The campground was very quiet which is surprising as it's right off the highway. There is a Walmart right down the street. There's a 7-Eleven at the end of the street and a bank across the street from that. None of these businesses are visible from the campground or from the end of the road that the campground is located on. You feel like you're out in the country. Just out of the campground and down into town is the small walking mall with nice restaurants and quaint shops that will interest people and history buffs. There is an area for kids where there are several water fountains installed flush with the patio with water shooting up into the air. The kids just loved it, and very much enjoyed cooling off with the water and their bathing suits. If you're a history buff, there's plenty of history here for your entertainment.
Another plus is the airport which is only an hour away. We flew our daughter in from Michigan. The flight is only an hour long and she was there! Easy to get to the airport and back in a jiff.
One last thing. Our tow vehicle had a serious electrical issue while we were staying. We found a very reliable and educated mechanic who quickly repaired our problem. We were able to continue on home at our scheduled departure day without incident. Thank you Omps!
If I had a complaint, I'd say that there is no handicap facility at the entrance of the pool nor in the camp restrooms. We had a guest who was in a scooter & getting to the pool which was surrounded by a foot wide barrier of two inch rocks was difficult. Not having the handicap entrances was difficult although not impossible to deal with. It's something I would never attempt with someone who's in a wheelchair though. A scooter is much lighter than a wheelchair to lift, if necessary. We were fortunate enough to have a male guest come to our rescue & lift the scooter over the entrance.
I would highly recommend camping here. I gave the camp a 4 star rating due to lack of handicap facility. Otherwise, I would have rated it a 5 star.
I edited my review to add that I believe this is a family campground. Unlike commercial camping, they are running, repairing and maintaining their own grounds while serving campers. I saw two men & a young woman who never stopped working while we were there. If you're expecting hotel treatment, you may be disappointed as there is limited staff here. And maybe a hotel would better suit some people.
