What a wonderful experience for the whole family!! Very well maintained and just the right size zoo & aquarium for adults & children to enjoy thoroughly without tiring! The accommodation option looks like a must!
Great place for an outing with children. Pack a picnic lunch & make a day of it.
Loved it especially being up close and personal with the cheetah. So worth it.
Lovely zoo. Great for young children. Well worth getting a membership if you live in Canberra.
It was my husband birthday present from his daughter an son in law, he had a great day
AMAZING! We did an African savannah tour and our guide was so nice and friendly. Our daughter had a great time, as did we. How highly recommended it. We'll be back again.
We visited the National Zoo & Aquarium in Aug / 19 and it was a great tour. Safe facilities, very well signposted, good animal information signs. The visit lasted three hours. Full accessibility. There is a restaurant / cafe on the itinerary and another at the entrance. Adults pay $ 47 AU. There are guided tours in English only. Ample parking. There are 2 sectors with possibility of interaction with animals. Great ride with kids.
The Canberra Zoo and Aquarium was definitely a lovely visit during our short holiday. The benifits of having a Zoo and Aquarium all in the same area really does make things a lot easier.
However, the aquarium section itself isn't as big as the Zoo itself. The selection of aquatic animals is much more less than that of the Melbourne Aquarium for example.
The price for four adults was probably the most hardest part of the experience. We arrived 3 hours before closing, and we had to ensure we saw all trails before the site closed. We managed to see everything in that short time and still managed to take a fair few photos.
However, if you do end up spending that amount of money here, ensure you give yourself plenty of time to make the most of this wonderful Zoo and Aquarium.
I've lived in Canberra for 22 years and I've seen this zoo grow in to one of the best places to visit in Canberra animals are super chill plenty of patting areas and your options awesome hotel experiences and this lovely experience all around
I didn't even know there was a zoo in ACT and then when attending I was amazed at how large it was and the variety of animals. Keepers were friendly and talkative. Clean and tidy. Well kept exhibits. Loved it!
Lovely and peaceful.. it was a wonderful walk through the nature. The kids loved the white lions.
It's a great place to visit the animals are really well treated
Loved, loved this place. Take your lunch or eat at the Rhino Cafe. Such great work from a private funded zoo, fantastic number of animals
Awesome family zoo - lots of picnic areas - great exhibitions and well looked after enclosures.
Our visit yesterday was nothing like a prior reviewer described.
Yes, the Aquarium display/part is currently closed, but that was the only thing that was was, not 70%..??
They brought out a snake and an alligator from the Aquarium for people to pat and my daughter was thrilled.
It's a lot bigger than it seems when you first come in. There is some construction work going on the block next door to the zoo, but it didn't impact on our visit at all. I asked staff about it and the Zoo is about to expand to more than double the current size soon!
The outside Zoo part itself was 100% open and we saw every animal. The white lions in particular were gorgeous. The animals are in some of the best enclosures I have ever seen in a Zoo, with clear viewing across moats and low fences. We took some fantastic photos.
You can choose to do extra behind the scenes animal encounters & tours and feed the animals, or just walk around. Times for feeds and talks are advertised on a handout you get with the Zoo map. We were also told on entry what was happening.
My daughter fed the giraffe on a Keeper Talk, which was only $10, and for an extra $5 we got a gorgeous photo. We found the staff very friendly and willing to answer our questions.
We were so impressed we have purchased an Annual Membership!
The zoo is bigger and better than before, with 2 connected sections and 2 entrances and car parks. Lots of space for kids to run and even have a picnic.
There are giraffes, rhinos, ostriches, and penguins to name a few. Also, there's an aquarium where you can meet various fish and also see some snakes.
One of the downsides, as many parents of small kids say, is that scooters are prohibited and kids get tired to walk for long distances. Otherwise, it's a nice place in Australia's capital.
Large ZOO with alot of animals on display! Highlights for us the: Tiger, Cheetah, Leopard, Giraffe, Baby Monkey. The playground was super impressive, with lots of animal statues for the children to play on & have photographs with, which my daughter loved! Finally it's a very clean & well maintained area which I appreciate
A fantastic zoo in Canberra! Very easy to navigate around the zoo with multiple signs and boards up everywhere. The animals are well kept and are placed in areas which are perfectly suitable for each of their individual needs. Aquarium is very cool as it has a lot of exotic fish around. Overall, a splendid experience!
Excellent place, lots of things to keep kids excited and busy.
We have had good days at this zoo. Fair prices, lots of space, great new kids area. Interesting animals
Excellent preservation of endangeded animals. The animals clearly come first - they all look content and well feed.
Great zoo, plenty of animals with large enclosures. Very easy to get around.
Awesome for a day out. Not to miss when visiting Canberra. Made it on our third visit, worth it
I like the existing animals. The zoo and aquarium are well organized.
I love the zoo! There upgrades over the past few years are phenomenal. The animals are so well cared for and seem happy and peaceful I would definitely recommend visiting this zoo.
What a fabulous way to spend a day. We did the WOW tour. A truly unforgettable experience. My hysband had planned it as a suprise for my birthday. We fed and petted lions, tigers, bears, hyenas. ..had lunch with hummer the giraffe. The behind the scenes tour was indescribable. We would highly recommend it. Oh yes we were also the first to experience the new Meekat enclosure.
Great zoo, followed the adventure trail, there seemed to be a little bit of backtracking to follow numbers, but enjoyable
Visited the zoo after many years. We were thoroughly impressed with the layout of the zoo, the variety of animals and the play areas for the children.
Excelently displayed animals in seemingly large and comfortable and pretty enclosures with great view ability. Taking the adventure trail is a great way to see everything without getting lost, would definitely visit again
The National Zoo and Aquarium is an absolute gem in Canberra, particularly if you have kids. They've got some really great stuff going on. Sure, it might not be as fancy/flash as the zoo/aquarium in Sydney and Melbourne but it's still really enjoyable.
My wife and I both bought a membership there because our daughter loves it so much. You only need to go there 3 times in one year and it's already paid for itself.
Such an amazing day, did the Zooventure tour, worth every penny, the guide was fantastic
Great kids playground. Probably the best in Canberra.
Loved the place specially big cats. Compare to other big zoo in other cities, this zoo have lots of animal.
Nice place but it seems to me that the price of the ticket is a bit expensive
Fantastic Zoo. Very well planned and set up. With plenty of room to move without getting bowled over by those crazy pram drivers!
Great zoo, up close and personal.. even the early morning walk, we were stalked by the young tigers
We visited this zoo for the very first time in July. This is the best zoo we have ever been to and it is now by far our favourite zoo. The spacious animal enclosures are great, the animals have room to run, play and hide. The climbing equipment for the monkeys is fantastic. The animals are certainly having a good life at this zoo. We also loved the fact that you just follow the numbered and arrowed path and you will not miss any animals, no need to constantly unfold and look at a map, just follow the path. We had a great day. Note: also great for prams or wheelchairs as there are long ramps next to all stairs. We highly recommend this zoo.
Very distressing to see a grey nurse shark that had to fold its tail around to fit in the aquarium.
Tassie devil paced the entire time.
Monkey was pacing the entire time.
Tiger was pacing around and around.
This can be confirmed by the massive eroded track marks.
Bear was bored out of his brain, swaying from boredom.
Giraffe has no friend or toys or trees to keep him entertained.
Cotton top tamaran had no company, looked scared and screamed at various times.
He sat sadly nibbling away at the few weeds in his enclosure, while between this he would sway his neck back and forth in a distressed manner.
Many of the enclosures are in disrepair, the shelter and roof tops the tigers and primates get up onto are buckled, nails sticking out, so cheap to fix.
The entry is a few primates, this enclosure looks lovely, trying to give the impressive we have arrived at a wonderful zoo, pity the rest is so poorly cared for.
Staff seem very happy to zip around on their new 4 wheelers doing nothing at all related to the maintainance of the zoo. The noise of course sounded disturbingly loud.
I'd love to know where my admission fee is going as it is very clear to me that many of these animals are depressed and being kept in a careless manner.
This is the worst zoo I have seen, I will not be returning
We stayed the night with the Lions what an incredible experience. The food was great and the night tour was exceptional a very expensive experience which was unforgettable and a must for the bucket list
Great place to chill and realise how perfect the whole of creation is. We joined as members and love to come back on a regular basis even for a quick visit and a coffee.
Most of the animals were not visible. I did enjoy the ones I was able to see. Especially getting up close to the Kangaroos.
Awesome. Kids will love it. Lots of walking, but great
Very well laid out granddaughter says it is awesome.
Expensive for a family. Aquarium is a bit of a let down but the rest is excellent.
A very nice place to visit the animals are very well looked after and healthy
Total waste of money. Very disappointing. Exhibits were lacking visual of animals. Signage was deceiving. Only good for tourists as there was abundance of Emus and kangaroos. Waste of time. I would peg the entrance fee at $15 per family. They're only interested in accommodation and people paying thousand dollars to see lions and tiger. Total wrought
Simply magnificent! Jamala is beautifully appointed, staff are wonderful and very knowledgeable. The work being done at the Zoo to help preserve endangered wildlife and educate people while caring for the animals is becoming more and more important as humans destroy their natural habitats. A great experience!
Really awesome place to go on a date or with the family.
Amazing vibe and range of animals.
Honestly a bit pricey but worth it
Small but great, animals are close and active. The team at the zoo are happy to provide information on the animals
Have just enjoyed an amazing day at the National Zoo and Aquarium Canberra. This has to be the best Zoo I've ever visited. To make it extra special my daughter who volunteers their had booked a couple of encounters, one being the tree kangaroos and the other the white lions,a truly amazing experience. Thanks to the wonderful caring staff for making it a really special day.
Great experience for the children and adult animal lovers alike. Nice meandering layout and the recent expansions are well-designed and implemented. Good food options and plenty of places to rest throughout your visit.
Adventure land makes a great addition to a family outing at the zoo.
great fun for the family, the animals are all at good care, place is clean and well service by the staff. one of the best zoo , lot of suprise
Great visit, but a long walk. I enjoyed to zoo in canberra very much. But it is good to know it is a long walk with hills for the less mobil. You can hire mobility scooters for a deposit and $5 per hour. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful.
Great zoo. I would recommend it to anyone. Nice layout and easy to follow
The Aquarium part of the zoo was quite small. The rest of the enclosures were fantastic and provided different angles so you wouldn't miss out on the animals. The enclosures themselves seemed to be approoriate in size and content for the animals within.
Good for the family. Book animal experiences prior to going.
What a great zoo. There is so many great animals on display, and sourounding the grounds is a beautiful landscape that im sure everyone will love. It just seems like such a fresh gorgeous place to be. The aquarium is also a great addition to the park, one of the best collections ive seen. Not only are there fish but many reptiles, frogs, turtles and the list goes on. I highly recommend to everyone traveling or touring through Canberra.
Great few hours spent at the zoo, great to read about the conservation work they do.
Easygoing getting around the zoo & motorised mobility available
The new exhibits are awesome. Always love the aquarium. Great for kids and a full day out.
Amazing Zoo. Just loved it. Beautiful enclosures and the animals all look very contented and healthy. I had a wonderful day there. Staff were excellent.
Great to wear out the kids, so much to see, playground up the back is amazing! Very age appropriate for small kids.
Awesome design. Follow the adventure was really good. Inclosures have very little blind spots. Accommodation looks amazing have to try. Admission a little pricey
