Canareef Resort Maldives Review

Very good for a restful vacation it's the top very expensive for the rest

Great location for our honeymoon. Great views everywhere, great accommodation and excellent service. I recommend booking full board or all inclusive depending on how much you drink, but definitely take all the meals included as the alternative is to use one of their 2 restaurants which are very pricey.
Drinks are also very expensive so you can plan your expenses by knowing that a 300 ml coke is 5$ and a cocktail is 10-12$. You do the math and decide between full board and all inclusive.

Distances from the villas to the restaurant and other facilities are large and you can call a buggy for free or rent bikes for 4$/day.

Internet is available everywhere, but is very slow (<1MB/s).

The island is very raaaaa, nature, sea, 2 swimming pools, people are very good, they work in it, they are clean, they are very clean, they work twice a day. Room service is very excellent.

I am actually editing this review again as the first one just can't describe the beauty and vibes of this island!!! The staff are always willing to assist you and the vibes here are seriously unique . Lots of water sports (snorkeling and scuba diving is a must here!) and with the complimentary golf carts that are available to request 24/7, it makes it easy get around the island. Although it's very humid here, their aircons everywhere have made staying here a pleasure.

Lovely island, but needs a bit of a renovation. Also seems a bit empty

I love surprises I'm like a little kid, but being told that the $140 usd (no alcohol) Christmas Dinner was compulsory and we will be charged regardless was just outrageous! No email communication or plan was sent to us prior to arriving. So if you're planning a trip to Canareef ask them to send you the secret charges before arriving.

Lovely place for relaxing and swimming and snorkeling. Delicious food and pleasant staff. Get only 4 stars because the price level is too high, 30kr. For a bottle of water, 60kr. For a beer, 110kr. For a tray of French frits. Can only recommend people to buy All inclusive if they have to travel here

I've been here four times .. lovely place to spend your holidays or a special occasion. Well mannered and friendly staff .. comfortable and spacious villas but has this old stench to it. Sadly not so great with food. Alcoholic beverages are expensive, so it's better to go with all inclusive.

We had an amazing time in Canareef for 3N4D. Great hospitality and friendly staff. We loved the buggie service and it was best in the resort. Buggie service was available 24/7 and we could roam throughout the island without any hassle. It is a great place for couple and privacy. The food is unlimited when booked with package and it was good. It was an awesome experience spending our vacation and celebrating first anniversary in Canareef

The villas were fairly nice at one point. Unfortunately quite dirty and not looked after. I feel that this property is run down. I know that there is a lot of people staying on all inclusive/half board basis, which leaves others disappointed with the quality of F&B offering. Parts of the resort has been abandoned so I guess they are under financial pressure. All in all an OK resort. I would personally not stay there if this was my personal vacation trip. Stayed here on business.

Located in a beautiful island. Received warm welcome and got an upgrade too during peak season. Jacuzzi visa was beautiful, the service provided was excellent. For vegetarians It is disappointing as they don't serve good vegetarian food. New Year eve was no good and the arrangements made was not to the standard it should have been. They collected $150 from each guest for gala dinner and did not justify.

Food, hospitality, place, staff service, bar & nightclub, room service everything is perfect for each of the day. Staff make's Sure that each of the traveller get the memories from every corner of the day throughout the resort.

Amazing people, great location, truly value for money!

Had an awesome experience at this resort!!! The view, right from the airplane upto the very end of this island is mesmerizing. For 3 to 5 days this is the best honeymoon destination. The view from the jetty at the entrance is breathtaking!! We stayed in the sunset villa in which the backside exits directly onto the shore. The sunset side beach is very calm and quiet especially in the morning, the sunrise side of the beach has a lot of waves and can be very noisy at times. Lot of seashells and tiny crabs crawling near the villa. The water sports centre had a lot of fun activities. The food at the Khili restaurant was awesome. The chefs personally talk to you about the food and everyone is very polite and serve you well. One thing I would recommend doing here is the scuba diving, it was an awesome experience. You can explore the island resort which is about 4 to 5 kms on a bicycle which you can rent out there. Much more things to do there. It's a must visit place. All in all we had a wonderful experience and I would definitely recommend this place for a 3 to 5 day visit.

Very nice place for a relaxing holiday. Awessome nature and very good food. The beatch is full of algaes and rocks. Don't go out of the resort, it's a very poor area/country.

Beautiful ..... we did our honeymoon here and it was just 11 perfect days

It is one of the oldest resorts in Maldives. Took a little time to get used to the outside shower and restroom. Stayed here on business for 11 nights. Boiler got broken on my 8th day, called reception and they sent me someone to fix it right away.
On the south end there is a beautiful beach that you can enjoy snorkeling. Even from the deck you can see lots of fish. Buggies are available all day but it is fun riding a bike to explore the island (not recommended on a rainy day). Foods in the restaurant was always enjoyable. Great for a few days of gate away with your loved ones.

Resort is beautiful. Its a long island and has sunset side which has lots of weeds but one can easily go in water.lemon sharks,turtle,variety of fishes at deck area near reception.other side was sunrise side where one can see lots of rocks and hear sound of waves.north side of resort had a canal to connect the island with local village. While south side of resort was the best to snorkell.one can easily see variety of corals and reef fishes. Since resort covers around 4.5km of area they provide cart services and bicycles to guest to roam around on island. Only problem with the resort was that staff in not friendly except few of them.their main chef laxman put all his efforts to make food according to taste of guest. First day we didnt liked the buffet menu for veg. So we called him to ask if he can offer something else.to our surprise from next meal he used to cook for our table as per our taste and made our meals awesome.overall its nice place.

The resort is very far away .. The financial capital of the Maldives is necessary and necessary to be there before 5 pm and if you miss the internal trip to Tudik for the island of Jean, which also takes a bot to take you to the resort ... If you miss the trip you will have to stay financially and go to you night at the resort with its fees and services will not compensate you Real One .. Fees of the internal flight with the bot 4000 riyals you are charged at the resort, the cost of accommodation and meals, which you pay them the first time you booked them and before your reservation ... No new island is different from the resorts of the other islands .... A great property with beautiful beaches and hospitable staff. Transport around the resort is available 24 hours by a buggy. If nothing else does, the friendliness of staff will definitely win you over.
The cons, however were - the food was bland. From the buffet, there were only one or two food items that we really could enjoy eating, out of some 25 of them. Also, the prices of any stuff that we buy here are very expensive. A sunscreen cost us 14.7USD
Another tip - the staff will recommend a visit to a nearby village. Never do it as it is a waste of time and money

There is a very good dive center on the island which you can recommend with best conscience. All are very hard and you feel in the best hands.

The resort is gorgeous and is also kept very clean.

The staff is mostly quite excellent, but there are also a few completely unmotivated where actually only their time serve.

We had the bad luck that because of the partly chaotic logistics, a few days not a drop of beer on the entire island was !, That's a very thick deduction!

It's an ok resort. Beach Is truly gr8. But can do with a bit of cleaning and lighting in the rooms

Excellent resort with fantastic staff and extremely peaceful and very good cusine.

Overall the experience has been quite good. The hotel has a wonderful beach at the south of the island, the water is Cristal clear in there.
The rooms are spacious and comfortable, great AC and facilities to enjoy yourself.
The staff is always helpful, sometimes they're a little bit overwhelmed by the amount of guests on the island, but they always have a good disposition to to their best to help you.
Things that need to be improved:
1. There's a part of the island that is "abandoned". A few houses haven't been maintained and 2 restaurants are closed as well. My understanding is that this has to do with a water permit and the hotel is still waiting on it. Until then those rooms/restaurant will stay closed.
2. Prices are frankly abusive. I don't like the feeling of seeing the hotel as "abusive" but honestly the prices for things such as a beer, or even water at the restaurant is too much. I paid for half-board so I was expecting to have at least water at nights (dinner is included) and because they always leave a couple of bottles of water in your room. Based on that it should be kind of obvious to think that they can give you water for free at the restaurant, but no, they charge 4usd for 1LT of water.

Others:
Once you get to Maldives (Male) you still have a long way to go until you get to Canareef, about 5 hours (waiting for the layover at Gan, etc.) so keep that in mind if you plan on coming.

I'd definitely recommend coming if you take into account the daily expenses for food/drinks. Lovely place.

Close to nature.. beautiful beaches..coral island.. lovely weather.. awesome place to visit once in lifetime.

Arrived 4 days ago at 8h15. Waited until 14h45 for the villa we booked. A tip for early arrivals is to carry your beach gear and start your vacation as soon as you are transferred to the island rather than wait until 14h30 for your villa or simply get a longer by the pool and sleep off the jetlag. The island itself is paradise, staff are friendly and helpful while some are still inexperienced. The resort prices on drinks and tours are exorbitant. The so called all inclusive drinks package has only a select.few "cheaper" brands and seem rather diluted alcoholic beverages. Be warned the resort has special rates for different airlines as it seems that the owners have negotiated pricing with different countries for tourists and if you don't ask you will pay the resort escalated rates.
Food prep is excellent with a variety of meal options to suit different cultures.
Transport within the island is efficient with golf carts within a few minutes and bicycles allocated to each guest.
Deep sea snorkeling, fishing and swimming with the dolphins is a must..lots to do here.

Very good service. I went because purchased a good deal with meals included. It is a run down business. It is not a high end Luxury resort. In my opinion, landscape is a little messy and cheap.

What an absolutely stunning place unspoiled beaches offer all types of water sport friendly staff and management over 1000 islands only 200 inhabited

The island on which the Canareef Resort is located is 4.5 km long but very narrow. The sunset villas line the coast on the inside of the atoll, the sunrise villas those on the ocean side. On the inside of the atoll you can swim without hesitation, on the ocean side the sea can get quite stormy, it is covered with rocks and corals - swimming is not entirely safe!

Without exception, the workforce was friendly, warm, competent and very caring!

We had a Sunset Villa and loved it! The villa was lovingly furnished, kept in wood and turquoise tones and had a spacious terrace with a small "private garden" that led to the sea. At "our" beach we had the feeling that we were completely alone. Although the hotel accommodated several hundred guests, it was very much along the long coast. It was NEVER crowded.

You should keep in mind that the beach in Canareef is rather natural. We liked it very much, there was a real small jungle on the beach and there were also seaweed and baby sharks in the water (no, they are not dangerous and I think it speaks for the resort that the sharks choose the beach to grow up) . But anyone who imagines long white, meticulously cared for white sandy beaches is definitely wrong here. We preferred a piece of Maldivian nature .

We particularly liked the outdoor bathroom, including the spacious inner courtyard. There was a real island feeling! We found two 1.5 liter water bottles a day. There was also a refrigerator, but if you wanted to find anything else in it than water, you would have to inform the reception. The prices were reasonable for most products, surprisingly high for some - we could not see a system behind the pricing policy. The bungalows are cleaned twice (!) A day and the bed is freshly made up every day.

Bicycles can be borrowed in the resort's sports center, of course we took advantage of the offer, because it made us much freer and faster. As an alternative, the hotel offers buggies with drivers that take guests everywhere. There is also a fitness center, which is really not badly equipped, a tennis court, a beach volleyball court and all kinds of water sports (unfortunately they are quite expensive).

The hotel also offers a "Lucky Dolphin" cruise. It was included in our travel agency and we were rather skeptical. Very wrongly! The traditional Maldivian boat wasn't even half full and took us to part of the atoll where HUNDREDS of wild dolphins romped about. They swam with the boat and were visibly amused by the tourists, who let out admiring screams with every jump, somersault and trick . The younger, smaller dolphins in particular took the opportunity to practice a few jumps. A real experience for a moderate price (regular $ 50 per person).

The hotel has two pools with bars, the north-facing pool is 50 m (!) Long and almost always empty. At the bar there you can always get fresh coconuts for little money . The other pool is smaller but also very clean and charming.

Since we had booked full board, we actually always ate in the Kilhi restaurant. It was always varied, good and plentiful. All three meals were served in buffet form. The nice thing from my point of view was that the buffet was international, but not European-international, but Chinese, Indian, Arabic! Great for us who are not that into schnitzel on vacation! But we had really great Indian curries, noodle soups, dim sum, dhals and Arabic desserts .

The wonderful Suboceanic dive center is highly recommended, but a separate review is also available!
It was a great vacation for us and we can only recommend the resort!
