Our son went to Wekeela this past summer after his usual camp closed. He had an absolutely fantastic time. We feel that Wekeela saved his--and our--summer and gave him a truly joyful experience during a difficult time. We're incredibly grateful for the warmth and open-heartedness he found at Wekeela and we can't recommend the place and the staff highly enough. Consider this a 6-star review.....

We are very excited for Nicholas to return to Wekeela this year! He had an amazing experience in 2019. We were set to have him enrolled and attend in 2020 but for a multitude of reasons(mostly Covid), we did not send him.. Your flexibility was remarkable and from everything we saw and heard, 2020 was a complete success! We're happy to be returning this year (along with his best friend)!
Lori and Ephram have built something really special here at Bear Pond Maine. My daughter gets to unwind from the anxiety of the hustle of school, sports and extra curricular activities. They have created a caring community where their campers are seen, heard and enjoyed for who they are. No technology allowed, just a good old fashioned way to be a kid or young person. So much to do, so many rich friendships. No cliques, everyone gets along and just loves being together. I love love love that they love Paige for being herself.
This was my son s fourth year at Wekeela and I can t say enough positive things about the camp and his experiences. Wekeela is that quintessential Maine Camp with the right balance of comfort and camp. Lori, Ephram and the whole Wekeela staff managed to create a little safe bubble of seclusion at Little Bear Pond this year where the kids were able to be kids and escape some of the stress of this trying year. We will always be grateful for this and the growth, happiness and developing friendships our son experiences each year. It takes a village and camp directors who truly care about the kids, community, values and fun. Wekeela is good time for all!
Our children attended Camp Wekeela for the first time this summer after their previous overnight camp closed due to COVID. We sent them rather blindly - never having set foot on the camp grounds and knowing very little about Wekeela. From our first phone and email interactions with Lori and Ephram Caflun, we knew that our kids were in fantastic hands. It was abundantly clear how much time, energy and planning was invested to forge ahead with camp this summer. The directors and the entire staff should feel incredibly proud that they were able to achieve a safe, nurturing environment for all. With the many losses and changes associated with living during this pandemic, we especially realized that giving our children an opportunity to play, interact and just be kids was the most valuable gift we could have possibly given them. Because of Wekeela's efforts, our children had the most wonderful summer! The five weeks of fun, friendship, spirit and memories will remain in their hearts forever. We are so very grateful!
To say that we were grateful for the summer our children had is an understatement. Our kids have attended camp wekeela for over 10 years. This place has helped each of them become their best selves. They ve been there both as campers and staff and both were incredible growing experiences. Summer 2020 was one for the books, we all took a leap of faith hoping that camp could be successful. So grateful children could have this great summer in a time of so much uncertainty. Thank you to everyone who made this summer happen.
We cannot say enough wonderful things about this extraordinary camp. Once our son's "regular" camp closed for the summer we got together with some parents of other campers and serendipitously found Wekeela. We spoke with the owner multiple times about his plans to follow COVID-19 protocols and keep our kids safe and happy and were extremely satisfied with his answers. It turns out that our son proclaimed this his favorite year of camp out of five previous summers at another place. The best way that I can summarize what he experienced is that this camp has "soul." There is a strong sense of honoring tradition and also a care and concern for the children's physical and mental well-being. We are thankful that they made the bold and brave decision to open. We are forever grateful that this camp gave our son the chance to be a "normal" teen this summer and will not be surprised if he chooses to return next year instead of his "other" camp.
The ability to send our children to summer camp this year created a desperately need sense of normalcy after months of having our worlds, along with everyone else's, turned upside down. We will forever be grateful that we were able to send the kids to camp and that Camp Wekeela was able to execute such a meticulous, thoughtful plan that ultimately kept staffers and campers safe this summer. Watching the video of the owner, Ephram, announce that the testing protocols were successfully completed and everyone could take their masks off and enjoy camp as usual brought tears to my eyes. Our kids had such a wonderful time that we signed them up for next year almost immediately after they came home. Thank you Camp Wekeela for giving us such a gift during this challenging time!
Our two boys, ages 9 and 11, attended another camp in Maine that closed due to COVID. A friend recommended Wekeela, and we could not be more grateful. Emphram and Lori had excellent communication beginning, during, and after camp. My younger son had some homesickness, and Lori went above and beyond spending time with him and even being available at bedtime. Both boys came home raving about camp and want to return to Wekeela over their previous camp next summer!
I cannot say enough good things about this camp, the Directors and their staff. My daughter has attended every summer for the past 4 years and has loved every minute. Each year she added a week with this year attending for 5 weeks. In the current health environment, it was beyond remarkable what Ephram and Lori did to make camp happen. Their dedication and thoughtfulness is unmatched. They made a safe, loving, and fun environment for my daughter to enjoy and thrive in. Camp Wekeela exceeded my expectations and I am forever grateful for all they have done for my daughter. She has gained confidence, created lasting relationships, and matured so much because of her camp experience!
