It's not a place anyone wants to be. It's cold and time consuming. But there's a really nice cafe on the 9th floor with outstanding views. The staff and security are nice too.
This is the central courthouse in downtown Los Angeles. It is an older courthouse, but is part of the Los Angeles Civic Center and is adjacent to the Civic Center Plaza. Literally thousands and thousands of people visit and work at the courthouse every day, and things run remarkably well.
The location is accessible with a subway station right across the street, and a nice park area with fountains on the other side of the building in the Civic Center Plaza. There are plenty of places to eat within walking distance. If you have to park, however, be prepared to pay at least $12 or more if you want to park closer.
Inside, there are both elevators and escalators to assist you in getting to where you need to go. There is a large clerk's office and many staff at the entrance who are able to tell you where you need to go. This is also the location for the Restraining Order Center, which is designed to help unrepresented people obtain restraining orders if they need one.
Also, a hidden secret of this location is the cafeteria on the top floor, which offers pretty cool views of the surrounding downtown area, including a unique perspective on the Walt Disney Concert Hall, which is diagonally across the street.
Unfortunately a lot of people have negative associations with the courts (jury duty, tickets, criminal cases) and have rated this location poorly, but I know from experience that they could do far, far worse than this.
