I live in California and my ex lives in Houston and I never even met Eric in person but he and his staff managed to ease the blow of the transition. They were efficient yet considerate of my time. Even though my divorce was done on an inexpensive "flat fee" basis, I still felt I received excellent service and that they made me a priority. Unless these clients don't care about money I have no idea how this man has more than 1 star reviews. I was initially told that my case, which was very open and close run of the mill uncontested divorce, would be executed with my $5000 retainer. Somehow every single dime was used before we even got to mediation. Then he wanted another $2500 just to do mediation, that's before even drawing up the final decree! Oh, that would be another $750 not including child custody orders. I mean, I literally ran out of money. Here it is a year later, my savings gone, and I still don't have custody papers or a divorce. It was a complete waste of money and 3 months of my life. Once you sign on with him you'll never hear from him again, the receptionist will e-mail you updates but for the love of God don't respond or ever call with questions because each phone call and e-mail is money taken from your retainer. May God have mercy on this man for preying on single mothers with disabled children and robbing them blind.

I just went through a difficult divorce and I am VERY glad I chose West Houston Attorneys over the big name divorce firms that advertise on the radio. They are very professional and did not mind taking the time to answer my phone calls and e-mails. The one thing I learned about this process is that communication is important. Their office is very close to my work so it was convenient and so much better than the other firms close to town. I chose Mr Schmitt to handle my divorce after finding him online and reading his website.
He offers a flat rate for non contested divorce which is what I thought we were doing. Things got tricky when my ex switched gears from non contested to contested at the last minute. I was stressed out and upset but Mr Schmitt and his staff took care of it and set up mediation which worked out well and we were able to sort things out and finalized the divorce without a court battle.

Mr. Schmidt and Cheryl handled my divorce that started back in June 2017. What a roller coaster ride. This was supposed to be an easy divorce as it was a marriage of a year and a half with no kids and a very little in assets, but my ex-wife did not make it easy. However, Mr. Schmidt and Cheryl handled the divorce with a lot of patience and professionalism and gave me great advice on how to handle the situations outside the case.
Without them, I could've easily messed the divorce up and still be in a giant mess of a marriage. Thankfully, they were able to get everything done with precision and tact. They helped make my life less stressful with their knowledge and their kindness.

I'm surprised this attorney has ratings beyond 2 stars. Whatever you do please stay away from him. He'll sweet talk you until he has your case then disaster happens! He barely knows what he's doing. He tried to get more money from me to opposing counsel after mediation. He went against me in mediation for an agreement to divorce. Got stuck to a divorce to someone i was never married to. Other attorneys i consulted indicated he's extremely lousy - Just in for the money. Beware.
