We ordered a birthday cake from Butter Bakery because they do good work and work to support persons in need. The cake was lovely in appearance, and the carrot cake by itself was delicious. The frosting, however, ruined the cake. There was way too much of it; it was very HEAVY; and it was tasteless. What about using a simple cream cheese frosting on the carrot cake??

Tasty food, good place. Biscuits are not limp - award winning. GF and V options. A little spendy. Eclairs are way-better-than-yummy. Quiche a little overdone, but ok. Homemade GF ice cream, here. Drip 'n espresso coffees in real mugs (to go paper cups if you like).

This was the first time I've ever had bad customer service here. I was waiting for a while, but that's not what really bothered me. While the cashier was on the phone, she seemed to go out of her way to avoid acknowledging me. Normally if an employee was on the phone, I would expect them to make eye contact and smile, but I was not acknowledged in any way. I finally walked out.

I was pleasantly surprised by the food options this place has to offer. I ended up ordering the vegan burrito and a regular black coffee (both were great btw). When I came to pick up the order, the staff had it ready and were so kind. Looking forward to when they allow indoor dining again!

My family and I enjoy the service and friendly staff. The food is delicious and the coffee is just right. When ever we are down in the cities for hospital visits we make a point in stopping in!

Watered down coffee, not as much flavor as I expected. Service was fair enough. Ordered a dark roast but it reminded me of my mom's coffee. I kept drinking it thinking, wait, will this get better? No, it won't. I ordered the Breakfast sandwich Clint style, based on the instagram photo, which was delightfully presented, but honestly, the biscuit could have been more salty. It was a perfectly assembled biscuit with a perfectly melted cheese and egg over easy. That part was perfect, and the avocado was also perfect. When I got it home, I added hot sauce to amp up the flavor.

More of a diner restaurant atmosphere, but with coffee shop functionality. Brightly lit, open and roomy. You could sit with friends over coffee, have a nice healthy meal, or chill solo with a laptop and coffee for the day. The food seems really natural/healthy, and the bakery items are divine. They have the best chocolate eclairs!
Staff is always friendly. You can get, well, butter to go. Lol. Bakery items by the box as well, and they sell a few small gift like things- mugs and bags of TeaSource loose leaf tea.
Now for the unfortunate part. The Wi-Fi is horrible. The worst of anyplace i've been. They lose 2 stars for the terrible Wi-FI. It seems like they are filtering bandwidth for popular social media websites like Facebook, Instagram and the app store. Every time I've been in here, not one picture will load on Facebook. Instagram won't load. Also the Apple App store won't load. Other less mainstream sites load okay (though still slow)
Maybe they need a new router. I don't know, but even a search of my web based outlook inbox took timed out. (It's instant on my phone) Sending an email took 2 minutes.
In a day when one can get free decent WiFi almost anywhere, its odd that the WiFi here sucks so bad. I want to chill here more often, but am seriously considering changing my go-to spot to somewhere where I can actually use my laptop.
So basically, 5 stars for food and service, 0 stars for internet cafe usability. I'll round up and give 'em 3 stars.

Super hipster heaven. Biscuits & gravy had no flavor except that the cooks didn t cook the flour taste out of the roux & obviously didn t use the rendered fat from the sausage to make the roux. Served luke warm. Cups of regular coffee served warm. Nobody checked to make sure I needed anything else, but I was sitting at the coffee bar/high top counter.
I ll stick to the hole in the wall spots not in hipster parts of town.

We wrapped up 3 full weeks of making early am walk-trots a new habit. Butter has become part of the routine most mornings. We love this neighborhood spot, very sweet and smiliey staff who always welcome us and mix a good cup! The food is great too Pick up your Hope butter & Maple syrup, you wont be disappointed! Dog friendly, they love our Bubba boy and he considers them friend

Great concept not especially well executed. For a casual, counter order cafe, you wouldn't expect to have to wait 20 minutes to get a very average smoothie, but I did. My friends even waited slightly longer for their sandwiches, and although the environment was conducive to good conversation, our bellies were rumbling pretty loud by the time our food came out. Can't fault the staff too much as it was a busy morning, but...it wasn't that busy.

I love Butter. The best au lait in Minneapolis. Dan and the staff are friendly and dedicated to wholesome, sustainable food and living. This place is a true local cafe. I always feel safe and welcome while I am here. I go out of my way for their coffee and scones every morning! Better than Spyhouse, Dunn Bros, or wherever else you are going!!

Not a big fan of the food here or the service. They say don't tip, so you end up paying extra. But even when there are like 5 people in the restaurant it takes forever to get food and half the time it's cold and super bland. I would not recommend as a breakfast place. Go down the street to BlackBird, or Sunstreet breads

Your friendly neighborhood bakery! Great spot on Nicollet to grab breakfast or lunch. Staff is friendly and kind, food is responsible, fresh and delicious. Can get busy on the weekend mornings. Breakfast burrito is a consistent staple.

Pleasant place with fantastic baked goods. The biscuit sandwich, Clint style is the absolute best! I also love their chicken salad - they serve it with warm baguette slices & plenty of the eponymous butter. But really, the biscuit sandwich...

Honestly one of THE best cupcake places in the city.

I've tried cupcakes and cakes and it just tastes SOOOO good!

My cousin had a birthday where she had a coconut cake from here and I usually don't like cake but WOW that was the best cake I've had. It was just soft and a lil nice touch with the coconut. I ate so many pieces.

If you like coconut, try the coconut cupcake or cake. They have a lot of different ones, so you're bound to find something great.

Unfortunately I ve went with my husband on 2 separate occasions and have really disliked the things we got. I once got tomato soup which was inedible. It was so bad, Im not sure how that s served. I ve also gotten cookies and brownies, which were subpar. It has to be pretty bad sweets for me not to like it....

Good.

While food and coffee are quite good, I was appalled by my Memorial day's experience. A bartender (an ever smiling fellow who looks at others but never sees them), who was making coffees at the side counter, was extremely rude. After waiting for at least 15 minutes for a single cup of regular coffee I went to get a glass of water only to discover that the water container is empty. I tried to inform the bartender about it, but his reply was "Would you go in line". I told him that it is about the water container. He replied that "Yes, I know". No apologies, not even an indication that he is going to do anything about it or ask somebody else to do it. Then I asked a girl at the checkout and she refilled the water tank in 10 seconds. I think that if this guy is so over-stressed by his job that he cannot be civil to his customers, he should find a position in some quiet dive selling Pabst Blue Ribbon and pretzels, not coffee. Also, it would be nice if the management pays more attention to the numbers of clients on a busy holidays and weekends.

Really tasty ground turkey burger, blended with veggies, Tasty bun; nice sides of spicy slaw and corn chips. Cold press with cream and maple syrup was just ok - had better (Angry Catfish). But lots seating, not rushed ... great place to gab. And really, really like the sustainable wage / no tipping model.

This is a great place to go for breakfast! Home cooked and home baked food. Very community - based. They are a no - tipping place. The food is priced so that workers make a fair wage without tips. They have vegetarian options. They have a wonderful selection of coffees and teas. You can get mochas and lattes here, too. I highly recommend Butter!
