Burdekin Shire Council is an average company. Their services are satisfactory, but there is definitely room for improvement. The website is easy to navigate and contains helpful information. However, I found their response time to be a bit slow. Overall, an average experience.

We stayed at Alva Beach Caravan Park and that was fantastic, but what we really were impressed with was the friendliness of EVERYONE that we spoke to, every shop, petrol station, bank, car dealership we went to the staff were so pleasant. We even had someone in the street ask us for directions and we couldn't help them so a local came up and helped the person. Congratulations to the township of Ayr as we have not enough words to say on how friendly the town is... keep up the good work as we are going to let everyone know. Also a big thankyou goes out to the lovely lady at the Tourist Information Centre, I was told that she is the town icon, well she deserves that title as she went far and beyond in helping me pick locations to go to while we were in the area. Thankyou.

Always forget about Home Hill when it comes to public works, some roads are not wide enough for 2 cars, guttering & bike ways just stops & yards flood due to storm water issues, recently resurfaced roads that had nothing wrong & did a bad job. Not a happy rate payer.

About Burdekin Shire Council

Burdekin Shire Council: Empowering Communities and Driving Growth in Northern Queensland

The Burdekin shire is a thriving agricultural region in Northern Queensland with abundant resources and opportunities. At the heart of this vibrant community is the Burdekin Shire Council, a local government authority that plays a vital role in shaping the future of this region.

With a population of over 18,000 people, the Burdekin shire covers an area of approximately 5,000 square kilometres. The council's mission is to provide high-quality services and infrastructure to its residents while promoting sustainable development and economic growth.

One of the key strengths of the Burdekin Shire Council is its commitment to community engagement. The council works closely with local businesses, community groups, and residents to identify their needs and priorities. This collaborative approach ensures that council decisions are informed by local knowledge and reflect the values and aspirations of the community.

The council's strategic plan outlines its vision for a prosperous future for the Burdekin shire. This includes initiatives such as investing in infrastructure projects that support economic growth, promoting tourism opportunities to showcase what makes this region unique, supporting local businesses through grants programs and other incentives, improving access to essential services like healthcare and education, protecting natural resources through sustainable land use practices.

One example of how the council has delivered on its strategic plan is through its investment in water infrastructure. The Burdekin River Irrigation Area (BRIA) provides water for irrigation across more than 1000 square kilometres of farmland within the shire. The BRIA supports around $500 million worth of agricultural production each year – making it one of Australia's most productive regions.

In addition to supporting agriculture, tourism is also an important industry within the Burdekin shire – thanks largely to attractions such as Ayr Nature Display (a collection showcasing over 1500 shells), Alva Beach Park (a popular spot for fishing), Plantation Park (home to many events throughout year) etc.. To support this industry further; recently launched "Discover Our Region" campaign aims at attracting visitors from all over Australia by highlighting unique experiences available only here!

Another initiative undertaken by BSC was "Burdekin Works", which aimed at providing employment opportunities for locals who were struggling due COVID-19 pandemic impact on job market; it provided temporary work placements across various departments within BSC itself or partnering organizations like NQ Dry Tropics etc..

Overall; It’s clear that BSC has been working tirelessly towards achieving their goal - empowering communities & driving growth - since inception! With their focus on collaboration & innovation coupled with strong leadership skills; they have been able deliver results time & again!
