the staff is really sweet, hospitable and helpful (especially Olivia!!!) the sound for shows is just OK, the drinks were really good and reasonably priced, the food is mediocre, and the bathroom situation is a little frustrating coz you need a key or a code access

Didn't try the sandwiches, but came here based on a high recommendation from a friend. Even though I came in a bit close to the closing time, the bartender Olivia was very friendly and didn't rush me. In my experience it's very relaxed sit down and reminds me of a modernized small town diner. Slow country music played over the speakers, and my window booth sat opposite the tidy Eastbank Commerce Center. The mole tots I had were well balanced and delicious. Peppered avocado and a spicy sauce with cheese, creamy sauce and cilantro all top crispy tots. I'll definitely make an effort to come back and see if there regular fare stand up to the sides.

Some of the best sandwiches in town. The Water Avenue location is my very favorite. I've seen a lot of good shows here and I've had a lot of good sandwiches and beers here. The bartender is always friendly and helpful. If I'm in the area I have a really hard time not stopping in for the cured Italian Meats sandwich!

Great little Bar to host a small venue, concert for new bands. I like the food choices and the drinks. I had a Large Margarita to drink. I ate Grilled Tillamook Cheddar sandwich with tomato soup. I listen and danced to the band Lovebomb Go- Go. It was a fun night with family and friends.

I ve been coming here for years and it always hits the spot. The menu changes every now and then but only by replacing a sandwich with an even better one.

I always bring people here. It s a convenient location, good vibes, solid bar and fantastic food.

Was looking forward to checking this place out, but we only stayed for one drink. Stood at the bar for five minutes, waiting for the bartender to notice me. When we finally got service, it was gruff and unfriendly. Drinks were simply okay, and only two pinball machines. We weren't made to feel welcome. Seems like a "regulars only" kind of place.

Some of my favorite sandwiches in town. I usually lean towards the roast beef with a side cup of their phenomenal tomato soup, but none of their sandwiches disappoint. The space can be loud especially around dinner time and we'll never go in if they have bands as conversations are near impossible.

Not a good first-time experience. Read great things about this place, so I decided to try it. Ordered chicken strips. Where's the chicken? Guess I paid for expensive fried shoe leather instead...
Also, the guy with the dark brown hair and beard was gruff and rude. I know it was near closing time, but jeez. Totally makes me want to tip you.

The only reason I'm giving this place two stars is for the Thanksgiving sandwich. That was edible and maybe even tasty.

Thanks Bunk... won't be returning.

Good food. Courteous if not outgoing staff. Interestingly, had punk rock music in the background - not that I minded, but it seemed to go against my preconception of a rice bowl restaurant. Pulled pork was excellent. Not cheap, but food was high quality.

Great sandwiches, but not the best place to see a show. Limited seating with many blocked by a giant pillar. Towards the end of the show, the house engineer had a meltdown, starting yelling insults about the music while they were playing, as well as at a guest, threw a drink at her, then clocked out on the computer, grabbed some beer out of the fridge, and walked out before the show was even over. Not a professional venue.

Since my husband is not from this area, I were excited to share my experience at the Bunk Bar. We enjoy sitting at the bar but our bartender was more interested in her lunch and it was a turnoff and bad advertising watching her pick apart her sandwich while she was eating. We loved the Tuna and Bacon sandwich, which was a delicious combination, the Pork and Spout sandwich had good flavor, but it was ruined because the bun was burned and hard as a rock. The Mole Tator Tots sounded interesting and even though the tots were hot, the mole was ice cold. Sorry, we wanted so much to write a great review.

Unlike the original Bunk, I was really disappointed with this location. Food was not nearly as good, the one person I saw staffing the place was of little help. Go to the Morrison location!

Bunk Bar is a great libation-bar-food destination. Daylight Basement Bar tender Tasha was the perfect combination of hospitable host and easy listener. Social bar mates make this timber framed bar a worthy haunt.

Good food... really interesting mix of flavors and options. Love the grilled cheese and meatball sandwiches as comfort food but I can't resist working through any number of other items such as the deviled eggs, each time I'm there. Decent service and comfortable setting.

So bummed about this order! I really hate giving local restaurants negative reviews but I unfortunately won't be back. I chose to order food from here because it was local over the chain sandwich shop I was thinking of ordering from. I ordered delivery. When they packed the bag they put hot mac n cheese on bottom, salad in the middle, and sandwich on top. Since hot air rises, my salad was soggy by the time I got it. I've worked in food service and thought it was common knowledge to put cold food on the bottom. I ordered the Italian sub and the bread was really hard. All of the food was...meh. I didn't finish any of it. Just overall really bummed, I wanted to like this food.

I love Bunk Bar but man this visit was disappointing! My friend got an egg sandwich that came out with no egg, which they gave her separately instead of just remaking the sandwich. I got the buttermilk chicken sandwich that was no joke RAW in the middle. Not a little pink but gummy pink in the center. The bartender seemed to feel horrible but his cook was the issue, not him! I didn't ask for another sandwich after strike two, what was the point? Drink was great but the food should probably come out fully cooked and correct. Maybe next time?

I hate to say it, but Bunk is a victim of its success.

There's really two aspects, the Bunk sandwiches part, and the bar part.

Bunk sandwiches has a huge following, and they try to do something solid, but frankly, I've been less and less happy with their food. The quality is better than average, sure, but the flavour just isn't there. The hot nuts snack is disappointing, the fries, even when filled with beer fueled munchies, aren't that good, and I've been with different groups of friends who agreed on this one. It's unfortunate, because I so want Bunk's food to be awesome, their concept being so great, but it's not there yet.

As for the bar... parking sucks, it's loud, has little seating, can get very packed, and the bar service is pretty unimpressed with anything hipster attitude mixed with not that great mixology skills. Beer list is nothing special. Happy hour pricing is good, and regular pricing is fair.

They do host live music, and often without cover, and as a place to bike to, it's cool.

I just wish it was better than it is.

Went in late for a quick bite after a bike ride. I had the veggie sandwich with the tomato soup. SO GOOD! The service is great, and the space is lovely. Lots of windows to people watch while you enjoy a beer or two.

High priced, but pretty decent sandwiches. Good selection of canned beer and an ok tap list. Cocktails are on a menu at this bar. So that's cool. But this place is best as a music venue. Small, intimate, relatively good sound. They bring in a lot of acts that really thrive in a close, active environment such as this. Just be warned that there are usually a lot of typical Portland concertgoers that just go to the front by the stage and stand there for 2 hours and do not do anything except occasionally sip from their one pint of beer. They tend to flock here in droves. But it is worth it.

Ozzy.
