Dishonest and unethical practices. My daughter a recent graduate from Georgia Southern got arrested for a said DUI last year. A car came out of his/her lane, hit her and fled the scene. The responding officer called to the scene attempted several times to do a breath test on my daughter. When he did not get the results he wanted, he took my daughter to a private residence and had a guy with a white t-shirt and gray sweatpants take her blood at a card table in his home. The officer put on the traffic citation that it was done by an EMT. I kept wondering who could be doing this out of their home and how would he have these kind of supplies. They have a regional hospital there where the blood work could have easily been done. It indeed was an EMT, but my assumption is that as a favor to this officer, they circumvent the process to avoid waiting in an ER hospital and to get a sure conviction. I truly feel like they tampered with the blood to get the conviction. Who can attest to the validity of the blood work when there are no chains of custody? This was unsanitary and illegal. I am positive this has probably been done before as the officer felt that comfortable taking her there. I contacted the mayor of this town and he reached out to SPD and had an officer contact me. The investigating officer claim they took my daughter to an EMT station. My daughter gave vivid details of what happened to her. SPD is claiming she was so drunk that she was not aware of her surroundings. I spoke to my daughter before she was arrested and she did not sound drunk. A witness that saw the accident spoke to my daughter and the officer. She said that my daughter did not seem intoxicated. She was quite surprised that my daughter was arrested. The car that fled the scene came back a few minutes later slowly and the witness and my daughter pointed the car out to the officer. He did not even attempt to stop the car. If anyone has ever had an officer with SPD take them, a friend or loved one to a home to have blood work done please comment. I know in my gut they are covering up for the officer who has now ironically resigned. They claim to have footage that she was taken to an EMT station. When I asked if it would clearly show her going in the facility, needle in arm and leaving the facility, he would not comment. He only stated I could make an appointment to see the footage. I am not going to waste my time as I am sure he is not going to provide the smoking gun for me to expose what was done. I also asked for the GPS tracking of the officer that night and the request was ignored. A lot of details that I cannot list here. Again if you know something of this nature happening to someone you know or yourself please comment so that these practices can be properly investigated and stopped. Feel free to share on any social media as well.
