I recently took my family for my second time to Boyne Highlands Resort. The staff was great and the location and grounds were breathtaking. It was fall so the colors were very bright. My dad is 91 and mom is 87. Dad had a great time, mom has dementia but seemed to enjoy herself. On the last day of our stay however, my mom was in one of her sleeping moods where you never know when she is going to wake up. It was getting close to our 11:00 check out time and I was desperate. I explained my situation at the front desk and asked for an additional hour. The kind young man at the desk suggested us checking out at 1 instead and went on to say, "if you need more time, just let us know." Mom eventually woke up at around 1. We checked out and was on our way home. I was so grateful for the young mans kindness and understanding. I'm looking forward to heading back up there again soon.
One of my favorite places to snowboard. So many different types of runs. Tree runs. A lot of different lifts. Personal preference: I like it here better than Boyne Mountain bc there are more tree's and variety of slopes.
I'm specifically reviewing the "Enchanted Trail". It's hard to describe how fun this was, walking through the forest at night, it was peaceful and relaxing. This is probably the perfect pandemic thing to do, obviously being outside, and having plenty of room to avoid close contact with people, yet comune at the same time.
At the end of the walk, there was a rustic yurt featuring s'mores, hot chocolate and warm adult bevies.
I do hope they do this again next year. Staff was friendly and the trail was walkable for an average person.
Was told on the phone that all restaurants are open. Get here and find out only 1 restaurant is open. I asked the reservations lady about ziplining on the phone and she said it is all running, she said the twin zip was as well. We get there and the twin zip was closed. So we said that we would do the tour and the nice people on the go kart said to go sign up at adventure center. We get over there and they said it was booked.
We did get to have a nice fire Saturday night. We enjoyed the pool. The hot tub was Luke warm though. We finally got to do the chair lift before we left for home Sunday. Lots of miscommunication among all employees, each living in different worlds and on different times with out accurate information so it took some work to finally get to do that chair lift. The ones working in the adventure center said that the resort lost a bunch of employees. I guess they did the best they could. The employee cleaning pool area at Heather Highlands was very helpful and nice. The room was clean with a nice layout but the description on the hotel reservation NEEDS to be updated. It said nothing about having an upstairs. The microwave, the coffee pot and the fireplace was not working and needs to be fixed so we couldn't even make a coffee or a bag of popcorn. I don't think we would come back here again. Wish it was a bit nicer experience. But overall it was okay. The scenery from the chairlift was the highlight of our stay.
Have to pole uphill everywhere, a non skier laid this place out. TERRIBLE! Took forever to try to get a ticket on line, do I need a UN-HAPPINESS card or not?? 2 people on the phone there did not know either. Bought it anyway. Pick up said Day ski Lodge, tent there did not have our cards, then waited in another line to have a scramble to find us, good thing I had a printed receipt. Slopes were so so, GO ACROSS THE STREET TO NUBS is the bottom line. People had them but could not find a trail map n App was in readable. Cafeteria staff was EXCELLENT as well as Lift Ops, despite COVID they we great. I ski / board a lot and this place is awful.
This place is massive! We just went to take the chair lift. It was only $5 a person. We couldn't get by the water though because there was a wedding going on. I wish we would have known that in advance but it was pretty anyway. The colors will be amazing in a couple of weeks. There were quite a few trails at the top of the lift but we were disappointed that none of them were walking trails. They were all for bikes and one guy told us that if we tried to walk it, we'd probably get run over.
Rental counter staff was delightful but if you would like to be treated like a complete inconvenience please ask for Andrew in the fitting area. Possibly the worst customer service I could have asked for when already dealing with the fact they didn t have my size and I could not ski today. Zero understanding and empathy.
Had a great time with my wife and friends taking the lift to see the fall colors. Also had drinks and one of the best pizzas I've ever had.
The staff at Boyne Highlands Resort was so welcoming and helpful! I had a special request and asked last minute for it, knowing it may not happen. They went above and beyond to make sure my special accommodation was handled so I didn't have to worry. The grounds were immaculate and kept up so well. The insides of the buildings were very clean and well maintained. The events that they have for the guests are enough to make you not want to leave the grounds for your entire visit!! We can not wait to come back again!!
