Unless you're bringing an enemy of yours to the hospital, DO NOT go to Boston medical!! Aside from the entire hospital being horribly dirty and disgusting, the staff clearly does not care or take any time to learn about their patients, my aunt went to this horrible place for what was thought to be an infection, instead of treating her immediately they waited TWO WEEKS for my aunt to suffer, lose a ridiculous amount of weight, and her mental capacity which was fine when she arrived is now to the point where she is completely unresponsive and NOW they are trying to treat her... This is a horrendous hospital, please please do not go here.
I had a positive experience addressing a fairly serious health matter at BMC last year that included a 3 night stay. I'd arrived early and sat in the lobby. A short time later a security guard told me I would have to leave. It turned out he thought I was a homeless person trying to stay warm. Rather than take offense I thought it was nice that the homeless people are permitted shelter from the brutally cold winter weather in Boston. BMC is attracting some of the finest surgeons and specialists in the country, and I was lucky to be treated by one of the best. I have only high praise and thanks to everyone at BMC!
They will save your life. Had triple pneumonia, they had to put me in an induced coma for 14 days. Yes they can get swamped. Yes they can get rude with people who should not go to an ER for something so minor that u can go to a clinic in the morning. They are pros treat them with respect. BEST TRAMA CENTER in eastern MA. If you are barely alive coming threw the doors, well u have a great chance of staying alive. This is a hospital not a club med.
An excellent hospital with fantastic staff and medical personnel. I have been to my share of hospitals and these guys are top notch in my book. I won't go anywhere else unless they reccomend for me to go elsewhere, which they have yet to need to do in over 10 years. This is not the hospital to go to if you want to take daily strolls in a park as it is a city hospital. Not all of the professionals here smile all the time as they can be very serious about their work. The E.R. staff are very tallented and though you might wait for some time, their ability to work as a team and as individuals guarantees you top knotch medical attention. If you have loved ones who suffer with mental health issues, the upbeat, professional and tallented staff of the entire department make a possitive difference in peoples lives.
My daughter is having a baby and it's very clean here.
Mr. Director of the Medical Boston Center hospital, I have a great disappointment of this center I have a relative admitted to this hospital (for the third time), on March 12, 2019 he was operated in said center not More
It was okay until they wouldn't give me my ADHD and my anxiety meds. They told me I had to pick. I had two doctors before for two and a half years at Bmc, and it wasn't a problem. BMC helped me at one point. They helped me discover my ADHD. My disorder was hidden throughout my childhood, good grades, etc. Then when the other docs left, I'm stuck with this overly strict doc, and I decided to leave BMC as well. I'm now better off. There were competent nurse practitioners and docs there years ago; I'm not sure now. I haven't been there. Great trauma center and neonatal unit. Not-so-great outpatient psych. I'm not speaking of the inpatient-only outpatient. I ve never seen the inpatient or been a patient. One of the good docs I had was an inpatient doctor as well, and he was terrific. So I would think if he were part of it, it would be good.
bmc Really sucks like I went in June 11th for my records on a legal case on going it has been a whole month and no call back this has set me back significantly. I took it up on myself to call them because this is ridiculous and they told me that it was ready for pick up and they couldn t even tell me why no one called me to let me know my records were ready as of today I m switching my hospital I will not subject my children, friends, or anyone to this hospital
Little confusion about where to go because doesn't have clean signs about that. Also the lobby restroons are nasty. Inside is very organized and the orthopedic division crew are awesome, that is great cz children come scared here.
The worst hospital experience iv ever had ! Just came off a ventilator doctor came in few hours later and told me I was going to be discharged!! I Informed them I m not from mass I don t have a ride or any idea we re im at !! They still wanted me out !! They sent in a social worker who was the rudest lady iv ever met I was handed a cab pass to south station then told it was up to me to get home from there !! Again no money or any idea we re I m at I was told that s not there problem!! This is the most unprofessional hospital I have ever been to I never want to go back there again!!! I do not Recommend this hospital to anyone!!!
Everytime I visit BMC whether its urgent care or clinic visit it turns out to be a very pleasant visit! All the staff, including the doctors, residents and nurses are very professional, well organized and humane. All the issues I present are addressed right away! Sometimes its a bit crowded since its the only safety network hospital in the area and treats whoever walks into its doors!
Love this hospital nurses doctors and professionals thank you for everything Stay Safe
Excellent staff They are very punctual in appointments. They make you feel comfortable. The bad thing is the parking is quite difficult to get where to park. My recommendation UBER, Lift or someone who can bring them and pick them up later.
I had my surgery done here the doctor is excellent the nurses excellent too overall great experience gave me my life back again
Horrible experience the emergency room for adults the reception desk the guy was very rude answered me with very bad attitudes somebody supposed to be in customer service been sitting here for 2 hours and only got blood in urine done I definitely don't want no more parts to the hospital after today I will take myself out of the way just to go to a better and cleaner Hospital if I had some rates this hospital it will be at a zero don't go there it's a waste of time no help at all
Everyone treated me like I am the only patient. My per op screening was though. Now I confident having my surgery at BMC
This place needs to be investigated. Period.
Just a place for drug addicts and homeless people to come late at night so they can try and get their fix OR just have a place to sleep for the night (I have pictures for proof). Staff is extremely unprofessional (treating you like you're an annoyance - this was experienced on MANY tiers of the staff, including two accounts of the physicians themselves) and it's a cold day in hell when they actually know what they're doing. Want your medical records transferred or retrieved? Good luck. If you have no proper medical insurance and are currently homeless with a drug addiction, this is definitely the place for you. If you possess an insurance that will cover even a FEW things, run far away - because this place will NOT help you and do JUST enough to keep you coming back to bilk your insurance. They have damaged my wife to the point of us now seeking litigation. She's switching to a new hospital with a new primary care and we are blessed to have made such a decision.
Blood draw unit in the Yawkey Building - unprofessional, careless, inexperienced.
We had an experience in line with Carolina, Art, and Kim's reviews, only it was for something much more dire/urgent. We ended up getting assistance from another hospital.
Doctors and nurses provided very nice and meticulous care.
Boston University Medical Center (BMC) is staffed by wonderful workers who care about the health of their patients and work to cultivate relationships that encourage those patients to feel comfortable sharing important information that is pertinent to their medical care. As a hospital, it has a lot of potential to take care of some of the Commonwealth s neediest patients.
However, it is deeply flawed as an institution, even by BU s typically high standards. From my perspective, it seems to be undermined by administration that pushes efficiency and financial viability over common sense patient care. Doctors seem forced to see patients quickly, and are almost always overbooked, yet somehow run an hour behind. BMC for some time now has moved their call centers out of the building. That s right: if you call to speak to your primary care physician, the person who answers the phone IS NOT EVEN IN THE SAME BUILDING. All you can have them do is put in a note and wait for someone to call back. Up until BMC, I ve never heard of the concept of calling your doctors office and having the phone picked up by someone down the street. I m sorry, but that s not world class medical service, and it can lead to misunderstandings (being booked for an urgent care appointment in a woman s health clinic, then facing getting turned away as a male because the individual who put the appointment in was not aware of it being a woman s health clinic, something the receptionist acknowledged was not infrequent).
BMC has a big challenge on its shoulders: take care of a high volume of patients, many of whom have public insurance with bad reimbursement rates, but also stay profitable. Admins need to be more mindful about how their decisions impact the perception of the quality of patient care. Then I think they d see a higher volume of patients with private insurance and far better reimbursement rates.
UPDATE: Take a look at their form-fill, generic response. Anyone who thinks calling a number will change anything is at best naive.
BMC has always been a place where I ve received excellent care and service. I had to come to the ER here a few years ago, and I still tell people about the doctors and nurses pleasant bedside manner and speedy and accurate diagnosis and treatment. Today, I m not feeling well and called to see if they could squeeze me in and they were able to within the hour. Great place!
Had an outpatient radiology appointment for 2:45 pm today for a cat scan. They ask for you to come early 2:25 pm. Which I did. Well it is now 5:00 pm and I still have not gone in for my scan.
Absolutely crazy.
They helped my grandma the service is amazing you guys should come here I give them a 5 stars the people are nice.
Let me start by saying....GO somewhere else...BMC is only around because of the name that s it. The expending and changing this hospital for who? They don t even treat their customers with respect nor do they care about patients don t waste your time or money here not worth it believe me....There are the worst... Regardless of insurance or whatever you think will give you better treatment than the rest. Good luck to you all and hope you get treated better than I did.
These women that I talked to on the phone were rude with despicable tones. Answering the phone shouldn't be their jobs at all. I wonder if it's because of their work environment causing them to talk that way to the customers. They're rude to you making it hard for you to be nice to them, it's a vicious cycle that needs to break.
one of the worst hospitals i have ever been admitted to... called a 1000 times to billing department to fix my insurance info still they did not fix. Most of the doctors are too busy to answer patient questions. And the service charged more than what should be. very bad hospital.
Would not say loved it, it's a hospital - it's a fantastic place for when you are I'll because it is teaching hospital some of the best doctors in the world
This place sucks unless you have an addiction problem don t come here you ll be waiting in the er for hours and dint even think about soho I gotta is for insurance you ll be waiting for over three hours to see a counselor
I've been hear for five hours and told these nurses that was just sitting there doing nothing my chest was really hurting and they brushed off worse place to go to if you are hurt they dont care about you they run on there own time worse hospital
Place sucks not punctual ever I'd rather die on the side of the road
I was really against having my baby at BMC because of the opiate addiction epidemic that is so blatant right around the corner. But I decided to give it a go! Such great caring staff every time I went for a check up in the antenatal unit. The labor and delivery room I was put in was absolutely beautiful and sooo clean! I (emphasis on I) day in the toilet lol. The labor and delivery staff were amazing! The anesthesiologists were amazing, the nurses who helped me through my two day stay were awesome. I had a complications while delivering the baby and the communication was great between those responsible for my care and myself. EXCELLENT! Excellent! Suck a great birthing experience.
I had surgery last week and my PACU nurse Bonnie was excellent and I got admitted and the nurses I had Staci & Kim were amazing they were there before I ever rang the nurse buzzer. They went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable enough and to answer all my crazy questions. My day nurse Dina was the same way excellent care.
I was over billed. Contacted the billing department over 5 months ago and the issue is still not resolved. Call the billing department over 15 times. Called my insurance company multiple times. My insurance company assures me the mistake is with Boston medical.
I underwent a kidney transplant 13 years ago. Everything is still working!
Staff here is amazing. Especially the Moakley building and the center for digestive disorders. Doctors and nurses alike.
The facilities are state of the art. And of course very well maintained. Excellent! Feel so lucky having access to of one of the best facilities in the world.
Amazing place and people. From doctors to nurses and to ground staff.
Very unfriendly person taking appointments at the Dowling Building floor 9. I showed up for an appointment in April 2014 and when I arrived they said it was cancelled but they were unable to offer a reason as to why nor did they call me in advance. The receptionist referred me to the woman in the side room that handles appointments. When I told her I drove from Weymouth in heavy traffic to be there she responded that she also drives from Weymouth every day. This woman is extremely unfriendly as I had to deal with here many times on the phone when making appointments. The doctors I dealt with are friendly for the most part but they push you out the door very quickly. On a side note the area does not appear to be very safe as there is a lot of homeless around the grounds but this is not the hospital's fault. Probably will not be back when there are so many other options in Boston.
It was a very nice Hospital until they started having huge delays to see patients. My mother in law is an elderly women, she got into the ER shaking with fever and vomiting. She waited hours to be seen. The Hospital did not have enough rooms, from 9 PM she was only able to get a bed at 1AM when a nurse woke me up in my sleep to let me know. Very disappointed with all these bad services. I will be sending the review about the room services by mail. The doctors do a good job, but their staff needs a lot of repair. If you cant get a translator quick enough a family member should be able to assist with the first questions. You can do better.
The best hospital that I know of for psychiatric care. You guys have saved and changed my life for the better. All the chaos that surrounds that hospital you are literally the sword and shield for those who want to change their lives but are stuck. No matter how many times someone enters your unit just know that as long as they seek help you can help make a difference! God bless you all !
Had a lower back problem and went to the ER and was sent to Fast Track when i got there registration was pretty quick but i had to wait for hours before i can get a room, I've seen nurses and doctors walking by and didn't even look at the room that i was in.
They're careless while i was in a lot of pains .will never go there again.
It's a hospital. Their service is slow and their hospital is over populated. The emergency room process was horrible.
The physicians and staff are attentive, competent, and caring.
Excellent treatment ... for one they should not pay all .... the others are very excellent workers
I m glad they hung up on me if their phone service is anything like their face-to-face service. I tried to make a simple appointment in the family medicine office and each person I talked to was rude and just wanted to transfer me to the next person.
Horrible how our First Lady was treated!! Workers totally unprofessional, they all need to be fired.... . She was up there to help ! I'm glad our first lady has more class , then your Doctors and nurses.
This is one of the Best medical centers in the world! I have had the best experiences here, from common examinations to tricky diagnosis', biopsy and procedures, always top notch. Both the staff and the affiliated doctors are the most skilled and knowledgeable you can find anywhere. I don't know how anyone can submit a poor review, but I imagine there are unhappy people everywhere. I am very pleased with the cutting edge medical service at this teaching hospital. Thank you, and God Bless your wonderful work.
Get back to work. A medical facility is for patients to get the care they need, NOT for you fools to express your political views. Disgusting and childish behaviour from people expected to be professionals.
I had a very bad experience at BMC when my girl was born, the doctors broke her collarbone, I don't understand how they can be so moron to be doctors "they realized after 3 days" and they didn't give us an explanation for what happened.!
I woke up and left in a hurry to my car in the parking lot but was met by security I jumped in the car but they shot me in the kidneys
I had important medical questions. "1 hour" they never returned a simple call.
Update: recieved a call back 42 hours after contact. Would have changed review. Except by the end of the phone tag game (several calls later) My hope of seeing again were dashed by their bs bureaucracy and i will not get to see anyone because of pencil pushers who dont know how to do their jobs correctly. This hospital is a farce. If i could give negative stars at this point i would.
I just had my hernia surgery done, and what I can tell is it was so amazing. they treated me so good, all of them. they are super professional. my experience with them it was really good.
Trying to get an appointment for my mom has been stressful. She should have been called to get this appointment over a month ago and today because I called they claim to have just received the order.BUT now because the order is incorrect I need to leave message for a new appointment to another facility to be made. Hopeful nothing happens from today til the appointment is made for her.
BMC is very professional and thorough in medical procedures. My anxiety is minimized, and my confidence rises, in the reciprocation of communication of specificity of what I need to know about my condition.
Although I want to be proponents of this hospital, BMC makes it EXTREMELY difficult.
The billing is always incorrect for Doctor visits and to get any issues resolved is EXTREMELY painful.
The doctor is always late and I end up waiting 1 to 1.5 hours for my 15 min doctor visit. Completely unprofessional and disrespectful of people's time. I can understand once but this happens every time.
I
I am very pleased with the care I receive, Thanks for caring for me.
I got a mirena IUD at Fenway Health about a week ago and I have to say a few things.
First I asked my doctor, Sarah Etherton, questions about when was the best time in my cycle to get the mirena in order to avoid pain. She brushed me off and said it didn't really matter. She did not mention anything about it being painful or better for people who had children (which I haven't). I don't remember the exact phrasing but she was very encouraging of getting the mirena saying it was simple and painless.
BMC was created by the formal merger of Boston City Hospital (BCH), which was the first municipal hospital in the United States, and Boston University Medical Center Hospital (BUMCH) in July 1996 which was sponsored at founding by the Methodists and then by Boston University.
Boston University School of Medicine opened its doors November 5, 1873, combining the Female Medical College of Boston with the medical staff of the Massachusetts Homeopathic Hospital. Dr. Israel T. Talbot was the first chairman of the Department of Surgery at BU while also serving as the first Dean of BUSM.
The history of the Department of Surgery at BU dates back to 1946, when Dr. Reginald H. Smithwick was recruited from Massachusetts General Hospital to serve as Surgeon-in-Chief. With him, he brought a team of talented surgeons, including Dr. Jesse Thompson, a pioneer in vascular surgery; Dr. Douglas Farmer, a gastrointestinal surgeon; Dr. Chester Howe, a specialist in surgical infectious disease; and Dr. George Whitelaw, a noted educator and general surgeon. Smithwick served as chairman for nearly 20 years, and was followed by Dr. Richard Egdahl who was recruited from the Medical College of Virginia in 1963. Dr. Egdahl continued to pioneer the clinical research capabilities, and later retired in 1973. In 1997, Dr. Egdahl was named the first Alexander Graham Bell Professor of Entrepreneurial Medicine at BUSM.
Following periods of leadership by Drs. Lester Williams, Peter Mozden, Robert Hobson, Edward Spatz, James Becker, and Gerard Doherty, in 2017 Jennifer F. Tseng, MD, MPH, assumed the position of Surgeon-in-Chief at Boston Medical Center and Chair and Utley Professor of Surgery at Boston University School of Medicine.
In March 2017, the Boston Medical Center announced that it had received a $25 million gift, the largest in its history, from John Grayken and his wife, Eilene. The donation will go to the creation of the Grayken Center for Addiction Medicine at BMC. Michael Botticelli was named its director.

Careless or understaffed? Maybe both. I had a car accident and they never ordered a scan.. Still living with the pain.. Ask to go anywhere other than here.. Please get better.. I understand Jordan's frustration in these reviews.. If they do that, who's to say that they won't miss or disregard critical life threatening issues and you end up dying here..
I was a patient at the orthopaedic department. After only one appointment on which I saw only the doctor, I was charged $680 dollars for using a room I never entered, a nurse I never saw. I called the orthopaedic department and the billing department more than 9 times to fix the incorrect bill with no avail. DO NOT USE THE ORTHOPAEDIC DEPARTMENT! They have a very dishonest billing procedures. I can't review any other departments.
I love boston had all my children there, but seriously this new rule they have that you have to request your medical records and they take like weeks to do it. I use to go and just pick it up. Now you have to fill in some stupid form and wait. What if i need my medical papers now.... thats why i dont go to BMC for my care anymore.
Excellent attention, the doctors are very trained and the truth is that they care about the patient's health. I do not like going to the hospital, but here the visit is easier because of the person's attention, from what I see, they are a team of people who are willing to help the patient. neighbor with a vocation for service
I had KIDNEY failure and I'm only 35 years old, nevertheless, the team of doctors I had in ICU for a week were fabulous as well as the nurses. After a week I was transferred to A regular room. At the time I had the best roommate. Having someone I liked and enjoyed spending time with made it a great experience. I have to say the nurses in that department were not a helpful. After a few days I got some fluid in my chest but he didn't think it was that serious. Meanwhile, I had been on DIALYSIS. Well that evening between the fluid in my lungs and a panic attack I was having an extremely hard time breathing and eventually went out. When I woke up I was in ICU again. The doctors and nurses were amazing. I highly recommend this bospital
A half star would be more appropriate. Operators answering main phone line are unprofessional. 1st call to select 0 for operator was answered with a mumble then I was disconnected. 2nd call to operator again I had no idea what she said when answering the call...just a fast mumble. Was finally transferred to office I requested and their phone skills were not much better. Would barely answer my questions. A little phone training would help your staff.
11 hours of just waiting in the waiting room that s definitely good for already sick patients
Actually the doctors and medical staff are excellent, but lately they have been so busy it takes half hour to get to the door and the valet asks you to circle around after you have reached the door.
I can't say that I have ever had a very bad experience here. It's very nice that most if not all of the construction is done. My opinion is that they did a nice job with the renovations.
"Exceptional care takes time" is the motto slapped everywhere. FOH with that corporate BS. It's just an excuse. Whether it's from a lack of staffing or poor optimization, a 7 hour wait in any industry is unacceptable, let alone a vital one like healthcare. 7 hours for an ER visit. 7 hours of unapologetic nurses and non-existent doctors. All for an EKG and blood work. Disgusting. A common trend by reading the other reviews. Health care costs an arm and a leg. Run the d**n hospital better.
This hospital sucks. I got in a bad car accident and these people refused to give me a doctor's notes 4 times in a row which costs me my job. Thank you Boston medical for putting me in this position.
Biggest drug dealers in Boston. Addicts line the street where there is open drug market where dealers call out names of their wares as if hawking peanuts at baseball game.
And the service there is terrible, been there twice for myself and a few times with family member and hopefully never have to step foot in that place again. All around nightmare!
I recommend anyone going to this hospital do not go to see Sepehr Sekhavat MD, he is very insensitive & in my opinion a liar & not a trustworthy person. He does not seem to be very professional or knowledgeable. He does not have any personable skills dealing with patients who are sad or confused about situations they are in, instead he talks down about them calling them angry individuals etc. He also took some ultrasounds during my pregnancy and said my daughter had something wrong with her heart and he was totally wrong about it, so he scared me and my husband for nothing. I ended up getting a second opinion & ultrasounds at Boston Children s Hospital and everything was normal & even had my daughter checked afterbirth and there was nothing wrong with her thankfully.
OMG, I am Haitian... There is an old hatian proverb "no djol to talk". There's no other hospital than Boston Medical Center.... Best doctors, nurses, they are the best in everything... No one or other hospital can top them, hands down. I will recommend that particular facility to a blind man. They took care of me during my pregnancy. I had a joyful experience, I was very bless...thanks to the entire staff... They know who they are. I can never repay you guys. At that time who were my families. May the good Lord bless and protect you always.
With Love
Gee
Very good attention in the area of Neurology in children, the only problem is taking the prescriptions by electronic fax
