The Bonneville County Sheriff's Office is an outstanding organization. The deputies are all well mannered and usually pleasant to interact with. While the majority of the staff are friendly and cordial, there are one or two individuals that need a lesson in treating their public with a little extra kindness.

Cop pulls us over on CHRISTMAS Day at 10 o clock at night on our way home from visiting family. Our violation, rolling (very slowly) through a stop sign. When the cop asked us why we rolled through the stop sign we pointed out that the roads were covered in snow and we didn t come to a complete stop to avoid sliding on black ice. It should be noted that not one soul was on the road (remember how it s Christmas). Ridiculous that my tax paying dollars are going to some cop who will pull me over on Christmas Day for not coming to a complete stop. I have a better idea, let s use that cop s salary to pay for a snow plow to plow the roads. I would feel a lot safer having plowed roads than cops waiting on every corner for citizens to make minor traffic mistakes.

I have been very disappointed with the Bonneville County Sheriff's Department. In 2012 I was managing property in Ammon. I had one of my former tenants, who I had recently evicted, enter my office to make a payment on his outstanding balance. He seemed very distressed about something. After we talked for a while, he informed me that he had been purchasing drugs from another tenant in the building. He was very scared when he told me this information. When I asked him why he was shaking, he said, "I don't know who to tell about this. These are bad people. I just don't want to end up dead somewhere up in those hills." He was pointing east toward the Iona Hill area. He went on to say that the individuals who he had been purchasing drugs from had murdered someone and placed their body on or near Iona Hill. I asked the tenant if he would be willing to tell the police what he had just told me, but he was reluctant and scared. I finally got him to agree when I promised that I would be there with him every step of the way. I called dispatch and they told me that an officer would come by to take a statement. This never happened. I called several times over the period of a month, but no return phone call or visit. Finally, I went to the sheriff's office where I filled out a brief report, but they never contacted me with any follow-up questions. They never contacted me for anything! For years I have wondered if this information was ever looked into, or if it could have stopped these alleged murderers from hurting someone else.

We recently (and unfortunately) had to deal with some issues in our neighborhood. Our experience with the Bonneville County Sheriff has been great through this whole ordeal. They were very quick to respond when calls came in, and very supportive in helping us find resolution and peace of mind. The deputies that helped us were very caring and sought to understand before making conclusions. The office staff that we've interacted with as well have been very courteous and helpful. Thank you!

I wish after 5 years I could say something positiv...

I wish after 5 years I could say something positive about this organization, a more accurate description would list them as a 'local ad hoc law enforcement agency'. In my not so insignificant experience with this group, as well as other local, state, and federal law enforcement organizations they are without question deeper within the miasmatic areas of political motivation and ruthless opportunism. All indications of the root locus of these phenomena seem to be an intentional 'absence of command' policy. As such, there is an undeniable, and ubiquitous atmosphere of zero accountability in which each officer doesn't simply act with impunity, in fact, they are without reproach.

I won't enumerate their many, many faults. Such criticism is not productive and my greatest hope is that somehow they could find it within themselves to improve simply because they sully the reputation of all law enforcement.

The best advise, stay clear. If you have an encounter with them, do not get angry, cooperate as much as you can, and hope that state law enforcement arrives. If you happen to be within the Idaho Falls city limits, remember that the Idaho Falls Police have jurisdiction. I have witnessed personally that in contrast the IFPD have received competent instruction and have some respect for the rule of law.

On December 20, 2015 my wife was involved in a wreck and we called 911. Officer Brad Troyer responded to the call. The accident occurred when my wife slid past our driveway and had to backup before pulling into the driveway. She checked her mirrors and the nearest vehicle was a ways down the road. She backed up in the center of the road where it was not icy and then began to pull forward and turn into the driveway which was on her right side and struck a vehicle that was passing. Troyer sited my wife with an unsafe start and did not site the other driver for failing to stop when there was a vehicle in the road or for passing on the right while my wife was turning right. I asked Troyer why the driver was not cited for passing on the right he said it was not illegal to do so.
I searched the the Idaho State Statutes and it is illegal to pass on the right unless a vehicle is turning left and has its left turn signal on and there is enough room to pass safely without going off the road. It is also illegal for the driver not to have stopped when there was a vehicle blocking the road.
When I called the Sheriff's department to file a complaint Lt. Casper up held Troyer's decision to cite my wife because my wife was backing up on the road which is illegal.
I have searched the Idaho Statutes and there is no law saying that it is illegal to back up on a road. I searched for any law anywhere stating it was illegal to back up on a road and there was nothing to be found.
I'm frustrated with the Sheriff Deputies miss quoting the laws to justify there reasoning. It is their duty to uphold the laws not makeup their own laws. It is said when the people like Casper and Troyer, that are paid to protect your rights, are corrupted and have no ethics.

I have had both positive and negative interactions...

I have had both positive and negative interactions with IFPD and Bonneville County Sherriff's Office. Tonight however, I am questioning the public's safety after one particular officer threw a temper tantrum, shouting at the top of his lungs for everyone to "shut up", he was hungry and it was almost lunch time, and to get this over with. When I asked for his name, he wouldn't tell me but I saw it on the front of his shirt and told him I was goimg to file a complaint against him. His demeanor shifted as fast as it did when he started screaming at us. Do law enforcement agencies perform background checks? If they do, to what extent? This officer's conduct was clearly unprofessional but also frightening. He shouldn't be working for a law enforcement agency, let alone carrying a weapon. I also intend to talk to the Sherriff tomorrow about this officer's temper. He either has mental issues or he has let his uniform go to his head.

Last Friday, November 21st, I was involved with a person having a crisis. Sergeant Prudent and Officer Cook responded. I would like to commend and thank them for their professionalism and kindness. It was a long and difficult day for all of us, but they never once showed any frustration or were judgementel in any way. Great job Officers! Thank you for your service, you are always in our prayers.

About Bonneville County Sheriff's Department

Bonneville County Sheriff's Department: Keeping Bonneville County Safe

The Bonneville County Sheriff's Department is the primary law enforcement agency in Bonneville County, Idaho. With a mission to serve and protect the community, the department has been providing top-notch law enforcement services for over a century.

The department operates under the leadership of Sheriff Paul J. Wilde, who has been serving in this position since 2017. Under his guidance, the department has made significant strides in enhancing public safety and reducing crime rates in Bonneville County.

One of the key responsibilities of the Bonneville County Sheriff's Department is to operate and manage the county jail. The facility houses inmates who are awaiting trial or serving their sentences. The jail staff ensures that all inmates are treated humanely and provided with basic necessities such as food, clothing, and medical care.

In addition to managing the county jail, the department also oversees driver licensing services through its DMV office. This office provides various services related to driver licensing such as issuing licenses, renewals, registrations for vehicles and boats.

The department comprises several divisions that work together seamlessly to ensure public safety within Bonneville County. These divisions include:

Patrol Division: This division is responsible for responding to emergency calls from citizens within their jurisdictional area. They also conduct routine patrols throughout their assigned areas to deter criminal activity.

Investigations Division: This division handles investigations into serious crimes such as homicides or sexual assaults that require specialized skills or resources beyond what patrol officers can provide.

Special Operations Division: This division includes specialized units like SWAT (Special Weapons And Tactics), K-9 unit (dogs trained for specific tasks), Bomb Squad (trained personnel who handle explosive devices) etc., which are deployed when needed during critical situations like hostage situations or high-risk arrests.

Support Services Division: This division provides support functions like records management; evidence collection & storage; training & development programs; community outreach programs etc., which help other divisions function more efficiently.

Apart from these core functions mentioned above, there are several other initiatives taken by BCSO towards community welfare:

Community Outreach Programs:
BCSO conducts various outreach programs aimed at educating citizens about crime prevention techniques and building trust between law enforcement agencies and communities they serve.

Citizen Patrol Program:
This program allows volunteers from local communities to assist BCSO deputies with non-enforcement duties like traffic control during events etc., thereby freeing up deputies' time so they can focus on more pressing matters.

School Resource Officer Program:
BCSO assigns officers specifically trained in working with children/teenagers as School Resource Officers (SROs) at schools within their jurisdictional area.

Victim Services Unit:
This unit provides assistance/support services for victims of crimes including counseling referrals if needed.

In conclusion,
Bonneville County Sheriff's Office plays an essential role in maintaining peace & order within its jurisdictional area by providing quality law enforcement services while ensuring transparency & accountability towards citizens it serves.
With its dedicated team of professionals committed towards making a positive difference every day - BCSO continues striving towards excellence while keeping pace with changing times & challenges faced by modern-day policing agencies!
