Sevagram is a small village near Wardha town, established by Mahatma Gandhi in 1933, which is about 75km south-west of Nagpur. Earlier known as Shegaon, the village was renamed as 'Sevagram' during the year 1940. This village was once served as the headquarters of Mahatma Gandhi for conducting social service programmes (from 1934 to 1940) and hence derived the name Sevagram or Village of Service (Sewa means service and Gram means village). It is said that Gandhiji himself built the Sevagram Ashram with locally available materials like bamboos, mats, country mud etc. and he along with his wife Kasturba Gandhi spent their life here for 15 years.
The attractions within the ashram premises are Adi Nivas, the first hut built in the ashram with a prayer ground around; Ba Kuti (Kasturba's hut); Bapu Kuti (Gandhi's hut); Bapu's Kitchen with a flour grinding machine used by Gandhiji; the last abode termed as Akhiri Nivas housing the weighing machine used by Gandhiji and several other huts termed as Prachure Kuti, Adya Adi Nivas, Mahadev Kuti, Kishore Nivas etc.
For the benefit of visitors and for holding training camps and conferences by various constructive work institutions, a visitor's residence named as Yatri Nivas was built by the government in 1982 which is managed by the Ashram. Nearby Sevagram Ashram, there is a Gandhi Museum exhibiting Gandhi photo displaying the life and works of Gandhiji.
Maintained with originality to a great extent. Very peaceful environment.
It is beautiful place. History is preserved and must visit place in wardha.
Stuff gives complete information. Breakfast is also good. Kept clean.
Overall a wonderful experience visiting this place. The way managemnrt has preserved and kept all the things associated with Bapu is really good. I and my family was fascinated to see all the things. Only bad experience was the toilets at the place. It was badly stinking and the urinals were totally clogged, and least expected that at a place of such historic importance we will experience such bad toilets.
Great to see Bapu's kuti whre he spend some time during the pre indepence time.
Good place to know about Gandhi ji..... Very informative.
'Prakrutik ahar Kendra' inside premises is very good.
But was under renovation 2 months back.
It's nice to visit here... Peaceful place as it was workplace of Mahatma Gandhi
Sevagram, originally Segaon, is a small village, located about 8 km from Wardha. M.K. Gandhi set up what eventually became an ashram in the outskirts of the village. Seth Jamnalal Bajaj of Wardha, a disciple of Gandhi, made available to the ashram about 300 acres (1.2 km2) of land. Near the ashram there is a museum where artifacts of India's freedom struggle are preserved.
This place really gets you close to gandhiji, you learn so much abouth them.
Bathrooms are separate and large for Bapu. Small for Kasturba. There was also a bathtub for Bapu.
Commodus for Bapu, nor for Kasturba.
There was a lot of discrimination.
A historic start up point of freedom fight of India...

The place is keep and quite. Enjoy peaceful atmosphere. Better to open your shoes at one place and have a walk barefeet it it's not hot, because you need to open shoes every time to go inside. Admire the place, not to touch anything.
