If you fancy your beef steak burnt or non-existent...
If you fancy your beef steak burnt or non-existent service, the black cow bistro might just be the right place for you. I seldom give poor reviews, but our dining experience at the black cow was so wrong that I can hardly ignore it. We intended for this dinner to be a finale of sorts for our trip to Tasmania and it turns out so terribly disappointing.
My wife and I love beef steaks and have eaten steaks from different parts of the world. I have to say that this has to be the worst beef steak that we have eaten in our lives. We asked for medium rare doneness for both of our steaks and they turn out to be overcooked and the exterior of the steaks were burnt! I could not understand, for the life of me, how you can overcook and burn a medium rare doneness.
The service was essentially non-existence; little to no attention was given to us. Even if we were served, the waitress and waiter were impolite and impatient, to say the least. We have had many fine dining experiences and the service here has to be the most disappointing. What's even more unbelievable was that the waitress hinted for a tip at the end.
So in short, overcooked and burnt steaks coupled with poor service left us with a terrible end to our trip to Tasmania. We have no problem affording a $50-60 per person or even tipping a 10-20% if our dining experience was great. But this place is just too unbelievable. There is definitely a much better option for steaks in Launceston.
