Great food. Staff very friendly & efficient. Not only good hearty portion size, everything was beautifully cooked & presented - delicious! Puddings were also excellent although we couldn't finish them all - too full! Good value for money in comfortable surroundings.

Went here expecting a nice meal. Instead we sat and waited while other tables were being served that came in after us and the waitress seemed totally oblivious to our prescence. We must have had invisibility cloaks on. After 20 mins we got up and left. Disappointing as looked like a good place for a meal.

Extremely poor, very rude staff it's definitely not dog friendly the small bar at the front is for dogs but is too small if there are more than 3 or 4 people. Special mention to the blonde woman who served us if you don't like your job or working Sundays don't take it out on people coming for a drink or something to eat , miserable cow.

A fantastic pub with a cosy and relaxed atmosphere. it is obvious to any diner that they really care about the hearty staples that they serve. The menu has enough variety for anyone and on top of that there's craft and cask beers and small batch gins. When you get comfortable in this vibrant but relaxed pub, trust me, you won't want to move.

After a lovely meal last year, we returned this year. The pub is well laid out for social distancing, booking, being taken to our table and ordering was very good. There seems to be a restricted menu, no steak which is what I was looking More

"A Bitter End" - Shame! Looked like a nice place but alas I was the Invisible Man! Waited a considerable time for someone to take a food order but it didn't happen . Can't comment on anything as a result, then this Invisible Man +1 departed as invisibly as we arrived

Visited friends over the weekend and had the pleasure of having two meals in one day in this great little Pub, Had Sunday roast Beef for lunch, which was just perfect, the beef melted in your mouth, then back in the Evening for a Bitter End Burger, which was great too. The Elvis Juice IPA they sell is great too, but felt it on Monday, ate and drank far too much. Will recommend this place to anyone

Lovely food. Great service. We all enjoyed our food in lovely surroundings We had the chicken and leak pie, mushroom, broccoli and blue cheese pasta and the chicken breast with mushroom sauce. Everything was really tasty. Good honest food, well priced.

We popped in here for tea today on a whim on the last day of our holidays . The food was really nice, the hospitality staff were friendly and helpful. I have bookmarked this pub incase we return to the lake District

Just enjoyed a couple of days away in Cockermouth. Really great food and a good selection of drinks in a lovely dog friendly pub. Plus really friendly staff! We visited this twice for our tea. Thank you!

This is a really nice 'proper' pub, with a decent selection of 'proper beer' as well as the craft stuff. Relaxed and comfortable atmosphere, friendly staff. Not eaten here yet, but the food looks and smells great. Best pub I've been to in Cockermouth.

Great food, great atmosphere, top quality drinks too, a fantastic selection of gin and top quality ales, including a goodly selection of Brewdog. Never had a bad meal, always have great difficulty in choosing what to eat. Would recommend a visit to anyone wanting a good honest filling plate of food.

Used to attend Tuesday evening Quiz nights here (loosely starts at 9pm). Beer was always well kept. Highlight of quiz was landlady's unusual and therefore comical mispronunciation of words. Worth it for this alone.

This review is after 4 random visits. A busy pub for good food and a wide range of drinks. Sadly the staff are often far too busy to smile, be polite or even have manors towards each other or towards their clients for that matter. Unfortunately perpetually unhappy looking bar staff shouting at each-other and the visiting public really does spoil the place, but people keep coming back for the large food portions. Sadly good manors are right out of the window at the Bitter End so do expect some unpleasantness. More staff training would go a long way.
